  1. Many thanks.... will try to borrow a friends phone who has the app and give it a trial run .... looking to run it on a 70" screen PS the Formula 1 was on the local cable where I am at present. It was shown in Ultra HD.... the picture was magnificent ... pity about the race and our local hero
  2. How can one forget.... the weeks leading up to this game were so enjoyable as we all played the percentage games. Sure we knew we had Geelong at Kardinia Park in the last round and therefore we needed some luck but to have the dream snuffed out by losing the unloseable game against a club that had gone nine straight losses .... words still elude me. Looking forward to this week as I fully expect a comfortable win.... but of course it is Melbourne
  3. what was the resolution like and what size TV if you do not mind me asking Thanks
  4. Just doing the sums on Foxtel.... in practice if you want sports and drama (TV shows) it is around $100 per month limited to one TV and some tablets etc. Compare that to Netflix at $10 per month. Ok... no sports ... but the value proposition for foxtel is a tough one especially of you can access sports by an alternative low cost mechanism such as the AFL app.
  5. They paid that kind of money to protect their retail network form the lower cost resellers. The one pulling the strings here is Foxtel who overpaid for the pay TV rights and are desperate to protect their revenue base in the era of Netflix etc. The fact is that the only growth in the Foxtel model is with the young. If you are old like many of us you made the foxtel/no foxtel decision years ago.* The young are into digital as their main form of delivery. If the Telstra app can deliver the product that the young want then Foxtel has no growth in a core market. QED... restrict the competing product and try to steer them onto your product. The future will be interesting but without representation the fans will be the ones who pay in the end while the players and clubs just spend. Interesting article in the Age/SMH on the whole sporting rights thing. Thank the heavens we have the anti siphoning rules !!! http://www.smh.com.au/business/media-and-marketing/pay-to-play-how-sports-bodies-keeping-winning-the-tv-great-rights-battles-20170323-gv58z9.html
  6. 12 minutes into third quarter .. Roos v WCE Kennedy 5 goals.... Le Cras 4 goals (9 out of 13 goals scored so far by WCE)
  7. I am overseas and like listening to radio. There seems to be no radio option on the app so I listen via the afl website on my laptop. Just went to the website via my phone and I can access the usual choice of radio stations. However I need a program to play the stream on my phone. Any suggestions please. It is an android phone. Many thanks PS... have just downloaded the VLC app for androids and I am away
  8. Mentioned on 3AW yesterday that the standard time out for this type of injury is 12 weeks ...... not great We seem to be suffering an injury curse this year. Luckily not to key players but it will test us if a few more go down. The absence of another player on our list due to the Lumumba saga may yet become a factor
  9. This game is a big one .... not because who we play but we need to demonstrate professional consistency In recent years every team thinks they have a good chance against us. The losses to Carlton and EFC last year were inexcusable. Not sure how the players will deal with this mentally but hope in hell it is different to whatever they were doing in the past !!
  10. Riewoldt is probably the most respected player in the game....
  11. you are correct as always Sir WYL
  12. Would be good to finish it off.... a couple more goals from the Saints will cheapen the victory
  13. Score please please.... AFL website stuck AGAIN
  14. They really need to do something about the AFL website Stuck at 2:58 into the third quarter for around the last five minutes
  15. mmmm..... wasting a few perhaps by those missed shots at goal
  16. Strange scheduling for a practice game. Think you would do it tomorrow to allow for the emergencies in the senior team to play.
  17. It's not shifting turf that is the problem. They insert blocks of turf with lots of earth so they do not move. The problem is that each slab does not have time to "knit" with the next and like the lines in a concrete pavement there is the occasional disconnect with the next slab as well as it being minisculey higher or lower. Hit a crack running at full speed and it can be like stubbing your toe.... very dangerous to athletes. The sand is poured in to minimise the affect of the cracks. In 2-3 weeks the cracks fill naturally and the surface will be fine .... today.... who knows
  18. That was a mark to Moore.... might have made it interesting Dogs aren't that good but hell they won last year and boy am I jealous !!
  19. You would have to be mad not to play a sweeping small/mid size stay at home back against the Dogs ... the easy run ins they have had on the rebound and the lack of a good forward line on Collingwood's part are the difference. Let's hope our older players can give us the service that Pendlebury gives Collingwood.
  20. Gil comes out and says that the Gillard report cleared the club and recommended no action. On 3AW... the Sun to report tomorrow that this was not the whole story. Gillard was asked to report in 2007 whether the pre 2007 unbecoming conduct by the Eagles had been cleaned up. He was not asked to report on the pre 2007 conduct. Gillard reported that yes what had happened pre 2007 was no longer happening. Summary.... the Eagles were never reprimanded in any way for their pre 2007 misconduct. Another cover up in 2007 but what is worse a spin on the real story..... When is the AFL going to get it that it needs to admit the faults of the past and only then can it move on.
  21. Take your point....Must admit I prefer... Docklands Stadium and competition naming rights are a misappropriation of history The Toyota AFL Finals... the Emirates Mebourne Cup, the Benson and Hedges One Day Series (that's an old one) How about the Red Bull Arena for the MCG !!! By the way who is Ikon Last night on 3AW pregame they were joking about the JLT naming rights saying they kept forgetting who and what was sponsoring the comp.
  22. Here's four big picture agenda items in which fans might have a different interest to players and the AFL 1. Percentage of GF tickets granted to participating and non participating AFL clubs and the method of allocation (ballot , premium members, length of membership etc) 2. Broadcasting rights and splits between pay TV and Free to Air 3. Gambling in Sport 4. AFL management of Etihad The above items from a fan viewpoint probably mean lower club revenues = lower player payments.
  23. Interesting .. a high profile... if I remember Eddie was good at using him until he got a little too powerful Let's face it neither the clubs or the AFL are interested in fan input unless it leads it to dollars. This being said they weren't interested in player input until recent times
  24. Perhaps even a fan rep on the Commission
  25. Checked the AFL site this morning. Would have appreciated an explanation as to why the AFL website continually crashed last evening and what is being done to make sure it does not happen again. At the very least they need a back up system that frees the radio stations to broadcast their coverage. The idea of all radio coverage going through the AFL and them having an unstable platform is disappointing to say the least.
