  1. You have perfectly described most political parties Saty......
  2. they must be very quiet !
  3. Was just reading about the Everton Supporters Trust and was wondering if there was a role for a Fan association at club or AFL level. When the Public Transport Users Association was formed I thought it was light weight but overtime they have become a real lobby group. As the AFL continues to chase the corporate dollar perhaps there is a need for a balancing voice.... after all "WHO" owns the game?? What do others think?
  4. Yeah but they will still fancy themselves knowing we are so traditionally fragile The trick this year is to bury the lower teams and get a deserved reputation of mental toughness Last year Carlton had lost the previous 9 games and we were playing for a spot in finals... the rest was a disgrace !!
  5. If you are Martin why not leave ... the Tigers are at best mid level.... clubs have to understand that unless you can deliver success it is harder to keep players.
  6. 73,500 people.... Oh perchance to dream that we could have crowds like that !!
  7. The afl site is finally up along with the radio coverage.... 20 mins into the third quarter Thanks for the updates guys
  8. It's up but scores stuck at the 20:37 minute mark in the second quarter. I loved the Groundhog Day Movie ... but to be stuck midway in this game is cruel and unusual punishment !!
  9. Just had a look .... in 1996 Jack ranked fifth in most popular baby names .... beaten by Joshua, Daniel, James and Matthew.... all very biblical !! PS Had a look at a few other years around 1996 and Jack remained around the 5 or 6 mark. Obviously they outperformed the Daniels etc of this world !!
  10. yep... the site has been down since the start of the game......... amazing in the internet age ... perhaps a few less dollars of salary and some server back ups might be in order The least they could do would be to allow the radio stations to broadcast directly... amateur !!!
  11. weird,,, all the online scores stopped at the 20:37 mark of the second quarter... even footywire that Little Goffy kindly steered us towards Updated scores would be appreciated
  12. Like Essendon last year those teams who play Carlton twice are favoured by the draw. How we lost two give away games last years is beyond me !!!
  13. Thanks I'm overseas and I thought they might have put a geo blocker on it... just ridiculous Luckily it is not the most interesting game of the year... scores are 45-27 Tigers way
  14. ah... I had posted on the live app thread saying I could get nothing... this might explain it can you post again if you get a connection...
  15. You could be right my friend ..... it is weird .... same thing happened a few weeks back with a JLT match and then miraculously it worked for the next JLT match Will keep trying.... luckily the MFC match on Saturday is on the local cable
  16. So I tried to go to the AFL website using my laptop and it will not load... set the VPN for Melbourne and still no loading What is going on !!! Was on the AFL website in the last few days.. no problems Local cable does not show the Thursday night games,,,,,,
  17. As many will know you have to log onto the AFL app/website if you want to listen to live internet radio coverage of a game. Just tried it for the first time this year on my phone and I cannot find the listen live symbol. Anyone help. Lots of messages about watching it.. but radio coverage is not as obvious
  18. sorry but can someone give me a run down on why Hannan is in the team. Did he have a good JLT series etc etc thanks... the question is genuine as I don't recall much mention of him other than in some posts as a possibility
  19. If Watts is not selected it is another stuff up by the new management. (The other was the co-captaincy) Watts is clearly best 22... ok he could be better.... but this will make the weekend all about Watts and not about team improvement. Hopefully Watts is selected... we have a win and can get the season away to a decent start. MFCSS says otherwise of course !!
  20. The website is not very interesting but I think it has a lot to do with the AFL having primary control of the club internet rights. You could use club websites as online portals with ads etc but in reality what would happen is that the big clubs with big supporter bases would benefit the most and the gap between them and us would just grow larger. Let's face it club communication in public is understandably bland and the website will almost always be full of puffery. I follow the Redskins.... (they used to be good like Melbourne) so I go to their website occasionally to check their performance. It is chock a block with info but of course a lot more money in the NFL due to the one team cities.
  21. Beware... I lived through the late 60's... started barracking for Melbourne in '63 or '64.... was away overseas for most of 64 but I can remember a game at Glenferrie against Hawthorn late in 64. The start of 65 was not too bad and then a friend came home breathlessly telling me how St Kilda beat Melbourne. If I recall we won few games after that and the decline began. After the GF in 2000 I looked at the team and thought this was our time.... it wasn't. Is now our time ..... perhaps but like the Bulldogs we will have to be lucky... we are not Hawthorn... that team built up dominance over 30 years... probbaly just like Melbourne in the fifties To win as a Melbourne team you have to be good. Interstate teams have an easier home and away and therefore their chances of making the big one are higher. Hope is a wonderful thing but blind faith is just that..........blind Go Dees and let's hope we are there late in September
  22. 1964-1987= 23 years without a finals appearance Not sure if any other club has ever had such a bad performance
  23. Richmond v Carlton tomorrow night.... they are talking 75,000 Richmond.... mid -level 9-14 Carlton 17-18 We can only dream of such crowds
  24. The West Coast allegations deserve consideration but not in a way that detracts from the Essendon saga
  25. One can however see the problem in the report. Means we have the least upside in turning supporters into members and attendees. And of course as it is expressed in percentage terms rather than outright numbers it ignores the sheer dominance of the larger clubs. Adelaide has an almost entire city backing it. We really need some success to improve our supporter base amongst the young .... 23 years between finals appearances and then 52 years since the last flag is an abysmal performance. Perhaps we need to market ourselves as a boutique club for the thinking supporter ...... a glass of pinot anyone?
