Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 2
Diamond_Jim replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not a gambler but do they ever post the size of the pool like the TAB used to do? Just interested in whether games attract punters in proportion to the team followings or otherwise. -
Jenkins is a key player .. could easily have had 6 goals in the first half. Betts had some good patches by way of contesting the ball etc but was not dominant on the scoreboard. As dl4e mentions Richmond's forward line did not really function. Hope our strategy people were there working on our plan for Anzac Eve. Out of interest has Martin ever been tagged?

THE BOMBERS' DOPING SAGA - THE FAT LADY SINGS
Diamond_Jim replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
Bancroft's press conference was an example of what we should have got from the Essendon players. It goes a long way in healing the hurt suffered by the Australian public. I will have no problem welcoming him back to cricket when he has served his suspension. -

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 2

Hope Brayshaw gets to play in the Casey game and is not an emergency -
Looking forward to tonight's game. In last year's GF the Tigers were excellent in forcing Adelaide wide. This had the affect of sending many of the Crow's rebound plays over the boundary with the ensuing 50/50 throw in. What tactic will the Crows use tonight to ensure that it does not happen again.

years ago I was on the fringe of one of the consortia looking at buying the airport. The carpark was the main revenue earner then and probably still is despite the increase in retail tenancies. They stuffed the whole airport when they built the first carpark and the hotel. If they had moved it back say 50-100 metres they would not have many of the bottleneck problems they now have. Fancy having a departures lane with a pedestrian crossing from the car park ... engineering at its best.

Point taken but the two wins in the JLT probably told us as much as these games will tell us about our ability to mix it with the power teams. Agree wholeheartedly re your comment on the game plan .. like others yet to be convinced that it will take us anywhere meaningful.

Round 2 and 3 are almost nothing games in the sense if we win they tell us little as to where we are against the other teams vying for 5 to 12 in the comp. Lose on the other hand we can kiss a spot in the top 4 goodbye.

Might go along and watch the Giants pummel the Pies and then head over to Richmond for a meal and what I hope is a stress free game. -
Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 2

Interesting given our NT games that there is no effort by the club to establish a fan experience at a venue. Not a fan of Casey but the idea of a big screen and a curtain raiser of a VFL game seems worth a try. -
an example of where the bigger clubs can invest their money to remain at the top, size wise. The fan experience or whatever you like to call it is very important.

just looking up Winx' prize money to date and came across this interesting point: Unlike many elite racehorses, Winx does not have a particularly long stride – her stride was measured at 6.76 metres (22.2 ft) compared to nearly 8.5 metres (28 ft) for Black Caviar and Phar Lap. Instead, her success has been attributed to a "freakish" stride rate that allows her to take 14 strides every 5 seconds, compared to 12 for her rivals. "This means she can settle or accelerate at any time during a race," said Dr. Graeme Putt, who has studied the science of racehorse success. "I think this makes her unique."[9] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winx_(horse) Would have loved to see her at Ascot.... perhaps we can get some stars from overseas to come and contest the Cox Plate. I see the second favourite for the Cox Plate is Humidor which is a little like ground hog day.

Perhaps a little harsh but the sentiment is correct. That was a game we should have won ... at the MCG.. Dangerfield out and an early injury to a key Geelong player.

Casey Demons v Frankston - practice match
Diamond_Jim replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
The next VFL game occurs after we have played round 3 which means the emergencies will get a run but the flip side is that in a period when the seniors have played 3 games the emergencies (which are those on the cusp of selection) have not had one game in which to display and hone their skills. -
Casey Demons v Frankston - practice match
Diamond_Jim replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Once again the VFL scheduling leaves a lot to be desired. With 4 emergencies being required in Brisbane, senior players will wait yet another week for some match practice. It could have been played on Sunday or even Monday. Would love to hear how the VFL schedule is integrated into the senior schedule if at all. -
strange thread no real comment to make except to say come back if we lose to Brisbane ... then our season is in trouble Need to turn 7-4 to make the 8.
-
Midday on Good Friday for this match Pity that is is not Sunday or Monday as that would give the AFL emergencies a chance for a run. The VFL schedule certainly seems to be a strange one.

No problems with Gawn ... (would have loved if he had kicked it) As so many have said his game , along with that of Oliver and Petracca were the highlights of a gut wrenching loss.

Plotting the downfall of Lever via AFL.com
Diamond_Jim replied to Engorged Onion's topic in Melbourne Demons
certainly not the dynamic player he was in 2016 ... challenge is to show that he can do it again. If they are going to tag him then Salem or Gus has to step into the breaking the lines mould. -
We just have to capitalise on these three plus Gawn and Oliver. Long time since we have had five players who could definitely rank as A graders and even challenge for the longer term tag of elite.

Ash has a long history on this Board and I will think you will find he is welcomed by many.
-
Hi Ash ... welcome back to the board. Your comments are as usual always welcome. Daniher is a very good forward and I fully expect him to rank among one of the best before he hangs up his boots. In our win against the Bombers last year we were lucky that he didn't kick straight. One thing that amazed me is how the Bombers managed to sign him up for around the $650k per year mark. He is almost certainly a million dollar forward or very close to it.

The more one reads this thread and as others have said there has been some wonderful analysis it becomes blindingly obvious that whatever the game plan be it was not executed to the overall benefit of the team on Sunday. It gives me a lot of hope for the season and moreover we now have two games in which to further hone the game plan before we hit a string of must win games in Hawthorn, Tiges Bombers and Saints. Not belittling our opposition for the next two weeks but let's be honest if we cannot put Brisbane and North away easily our season is not going anywhere. Would also like to see some evidence that our coaching staff are thinking strategically. What was Goodwin thinking in placing a second gamer as a tagger on one of the games most elite players. It was a ten to one shot at best.

Time to win big and snuff out the idea that we are open to being beaten by the lower teams. Go Dees
