  1. the last thing we need is another forward unless you are suggesting some further trades. Not saying I like it but.... Lynch to us in return for the salary cap freed up by trading out Hogan Weideman to Pies for their first rounder and perhaps a back up player Two low first rounders for Hogan etc etc That is what trading is really about if you have the cards ?
  2. if Hogan can demand $1.2M and Lynch $1.4m per year what are the rest worth. hell gaff is commanding $1M plus. Check out Cameron by the way there's a west wind coming PS: If Cox doesn't fire big time I can assure you Pies will offer $1M x5 or more for the Weid end of next year
  3. Santa Claus is a myth but don't tell anyone. Club loyalty is dying as well. These players have 10 years top to deliver what should set them up for the rest of their lives if they are good enough.
  4. One million.... that's the currency for a modern key forward. Riewodlt took a million dollar pay cut (250k times 4 for example) so they could draft Lynch at 1.2M p.a plus... (think again)
  5. Tom Boyd? Buddy? Roughead? Riewodlt? Kennedy? Lynch? Patton/Cameron and the list goes on every one of them $1M plus Sure they are not the panacea of three years ago but a key forward is where the big money's at. Why would you be one of three when you can be the big Cohuna elsewhere. The anomaly is Joe Daniher... rumored to have signed for around $660k.. why I'm not sure What would Geelong pay for a forward come 2020
  6. can we swap fifth and sixth rounders... my simplistic understanding is that the draft continued ad infinitum until all clubs had passed
  7. would love to do better but this is the way it's looking unless we can shake Shiels or better free
  8. and that is how many of us raised this topic and why the trade is very much alive... Jesse will not sign this year apparently. Time to live with trades.... they aren't going to decrease if the AFLPA have their way. BTW I think Hurley and Natinui's year must be just about due for UFA next year.
  9. I can understand the sentiment but you need to consider what we offer vs the Saints. He can refuse a one year or a one plus one deal from us (would you offer more) and stand out thus allowing himself to be picked up by the Saints in the second draft (whatever it's called these days). No one is likely to poach him. This is one where we can and need to be generous just like Freo were with us and Balic last year.
  10. Definitely worth a chat if we don't think their whales are available
  11. are you referring to Le Cras?
  12. yeah but they are or each will be million dollar players.. can we afford them If Weideman performs in 2019 (50 goals) he will be a million dollar renewal. We got Tom Mac on the cheap (or a little cheaper) because he's not a long recognised forward.
  13. Can he be traded if he is out of contract? I suspect if a trade is required it is a nominal trade in that Saints will offer us a pick that we will not use.
  14. If Hogan signed with MFC tomorrow we would probably be offering Weideman this year or next for a first rounder plus. In this day and age you simply can't carry, game or salary cap wise, three key forwards. Hogan not signing practically decided for us what may have been a difficult choice. If you want to see what salary cap does to an unbalanced list have a look at GWS. They had planned for a premiership last year and this year. Now they look like having to unload Scully, Sheils and Lobb to ameliorate their salary cap issues.
  15. Name me anyone who should have been in the 22 in his stead this year
  16. Six weeks ago I would have been of the same opinion but Weideman's four weeks or so in the team at seasons end have more than convinced me that he is ready for the big stage. It's not his marking and goal kicking that have impressed but rather his willingness to get the ball and dish it out including getting inside the pack. In a perverse way the injury to Hogan may have been an advantage to the overall progress of the team.
  17. must say I'm not that happy about him leaving in the sense that he has potential but no way would we offer a three year deal (one plus one perhaps) so best wishes Dean and may you star against everyone but us.
  18. this could be the making of the era we have all been waiting for. To have three class forwards is a surfeit of riches. Sure we could devise a gameplan around them but the chance to trade what is almost a surplus player for a known deficiency or two does not come along often.
  19. have they made use of the external concourse (outside the stadium) for bars and seating area etc like the Adelaide oval. The Perth weather would make for a lovely venue
  20. I will be surprised if Hunt is with us post 2019. Very much hope otherwise. Lewis' spot is there for the taking as we all know but no one at Casey has got close to demanding it.
  21. MFC need to get a lot better at their media management. Not the greatest week for the club on so many fronts. This week should all be about the journey to 50,000 members and we get this, not to mention Saturday's performance which cost us hell knows how many members.
  22. obviously Jack and Troy have fallen by the wayside ... is this the first crop of the new century or will that be next year?
  23. and that is what we have to get cooking to make the deal work our way. At present Freo think they are the only ones in the market which doesn't make for the best outcome. Trouble is Kennedy or Darling would need to be traded to give them some currency and not sure where they would get the other first rounder to make it work. Perhaps Jesse might like to try the surf at the Gold Coast?
  24. 6 and 9 is a bit light but it's getting there... depends what can be done with 9 player trade wise I would prefer 4 and 6 or thereabouts Mind you Redleg thinks we should get 4,6 and Brayshaw .. like his thinking
  25. Gaff only requires money ... as the lady says... please explain
