  1. Any news about who is travelling with the team as emergencies.... I assume it is at least Garlett and Pedersen. Would like to see Hunt and Tyson down at Port tomorrow if possible.
  2. Agree ..but of course they wear the sponsor's boot which has to be available for resale. Certainly not impossible to get handmade boots.... might be harder though to replicate the "air cushion" etc claimed by the high end boots. PS Just did some research on the NBA players and in the main they wear off the shelf boots with individually designed orthotic inserts.
  3. what do you call cold... say between 8pm and 11pm ?
  4. From Today's Age....... The topic heading contains my thoughts "But, assuming the club doesn't have a dramatic turnaround and it doesn't win more than four games this year, the Blues should also apply to the AFL for special assistance in the form of a priority draft pick. The AFL, based on the slightly vague criteria established for priority picks, should give Carlton an extra selection inside the top 20 in the national draft, with one important caveat." https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/why-the-blues-need-an-afl-hand-out-20180525-p4zhh6.html
  5. Just wondering as to what the lighting is like at the ground and whether a night game is a possibility in the future.
  6. interesting SWYL.... I would expect that the soccer boot is highly analysed but you make a good point perhaps the stress points are different in Australian rules
  7. the State government maybe but I doubt it ... this was the days of privatization and efficiency dividends ... certainly the original bond holders did not expect to lose out. The stadium was never really part of the "subsidy" side of the Docklands business case. I will agree however that the movie production precinct was. This has been moderately successful but has always required heavy government subsidy simply because the movie companies play locations off each other for bigger subsidies and tax breaks. At least with the coming update of the stadium the State Government have admitted it's a straight out A$250M gift. So I assume no fancy bond issues this time around. I find stadium deals very interesting so DD please give me the benefit of your wisdom. In the US the stadium deals are mainly made public which makes it a lot easier to understand. Here you have to delve into the accounts of the participants or as is usually the case wait for the liquidator's report !!
  8. I would like to see Stretch played in the back half for at least a half each week to see if he can develop into a Vince style role. Not sure he has the necessary instinctive smarts to replace Lewis in time but that is also a possibility. Also not sure that the midfield role is the place to develop decision making skills that carry through to the seniors. Thinking JKH here and worried that Billy is going the same way. Billy has this year and probably next to break into the senior side......... I'm sure everyone here wants to see him given every chance.
  9. it's way put of kilter with our Melbourne performances even in the bad years ... let's face it other than the money the NT games are a total loss... hope they go very soon
  10. Just one win out of 8 games in the Northern Territory.. batting average certainly needs to improve .
  11. yep... just down the road from the Big wheel ... such a success ... not to mention the restaurants that fail almost by the week down in Docklands. The only good thing about the stadium is that it has a roof that stops the icy winds off the Yarra pool cutting you to pieces. Have you studied the number of failed theme parks in NSW? Does the 20th century Fox theme park ring any bells? Just have a look at the capital investment required per ride and then do the sums on the attendances needed to break even. And just to remind you Docklands Stadium itself was a financial failure... AFL bailed out the financiers by taking a long term playing commitment after which the stadium reverted to the AFL. The original investors including the State Government took a bath. The next battle for the AFL is how to renegotiate the deal that the original owners did with the Medallion club and its members. Not much return on those seats I can assure you.
  12. you'd think Tom Mac would do a quick toe test before he got on the long plane ride... why wait till you get there to test it? Sure test it again when you arrive at the Alice to make doubly sure .. must love the plane ride !!
  13. So of the four who travels ... Garlett and Pedersen leaving Hunt and Tyson to play at Port?
  14. Have you read the Hilary Clinton campaign books as well mate.... must say I was thinking that recently about the MFC
  15. Ah... confusion rains... The terms update and inflammation etc are the headlines on the NFC site but then it links to the old 2:17pm article A communications own goal again!!
  16. agree... that link is timed at 2:17pm before he had had the scan
  17. immersive experiences etc ... reminds me of the shaking movie chairs for Earthquake and 3D movies... such a success. Frankly selling out to a US comic book franchise kind of sits well with my thoughts on where the present AFL administration wants to take the game. Did you know that the US government passed a special law to ensure that Mickey Mouse and friends never went out of copyright whereas our old Oz characters are fair game.
  18. unlikely... if anything it goes up as it will re- enforce in Tom's mind that this contract is his payday. Classic case of the Toby McGuire movie with Tom Cruise
  19. another weekend with the 7/8 man bench Thursday selection is becoming increasingly irrelevant for the Sunday games. Pedersen, Spargo, Garlett, Tyson, Hannan ...and another two/three for the bench. I assume McDonald gets named on the ground and becomes a late withdrawal
  20. Even if it's only a few weeks with the injury together with the Weid being out, Viney returning etc it would be nice for the team to settle down for a decent run together ....
  21. almost instant these days if you have the doc (as I am sure they will have) there to read the scan results. A little longer if you want second opinions etc
  22. If T Mac doesn't play which is likely given the precautionary attitude they will almost certainly adopt I would play Hogan forward and try to use Pedersen or Smith in Hogan's upfield role. IMO Hogan's upfield play has been one of the big pluses this year but until Tom Mac returned we just couldn't kick goals (which is the aim in AFL).
  23. please don't give them ideas. TBH I now refuse to use the names simply because they change so often.
  24. 4-6 coming up.. it's always our luck
  25. And of course there was the rise in the centre of the ground that meant if you were near the fence on the wing you couldn't see the other side of the ground. But of course there was the state of the art black (more brown) and white electronic scoreboard with video
