Agree... the days of individual shaming etc are out but as you say I would like to think the coach is calmly discussing at least one on one why the shots were missed and how the chances can be improved. We have now played Darwin on a number of occasions and things such as wind, aiming spots, ball swing, power off the boot etc should be known by the players. No use making mistakes unless you learn from them.. sounds trite... but it works.

good words Saty....

We have a dominant ruckman but still the coaching staff cannot give us a plan that really delivers team dominance from that asset. Strangely enough it was the same by Casey last weekend where Preuss had over 40 hit outs. Perhaps include Preuss as the number 1 or equal ruckman and allow Gawn to concentrate on round the ground play.

It was reported as $4M over four years so make it $20 and we're square or $10 and keep the game in Alice... let some other fool of a club have Darwin if there is one. Saints were paid over a million plus expenses to play in China.

will he look elsewhere if offered a one year contract is perhaps the other question.

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ

Believe it or not Richmond proposed moving their training facility to Cragieburn in 2007. I assume it was to what we now know as Cragieburn Oval... the scene of some JLT games: RICHMOND is set to adopt Craigieburn as its home away from home as the Tigers look to expand training facilities. The club is expected to oversee the construction of a top-quality ground in Melbourne's outer north for training and practice matches in a move that has thrilled locals. A lack of access to Punt Rd Oval during cricket season and the historic ground's smaller dimensions have prompted the 25km move down the Hume Highway. It is hoped an announcement will be made by AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou when he speaks at a Hume City Council business breakfast next Friday. https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/richmond-to-set-up-second-home-at-craigieburn.397751/ And then they threw the cricket club out.... Richmond Football Club will have full access to Punt Road Oval after reaching an agreement with the Richmond Cricket Club that will see it relocate to Mt Waverley. https://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/2010-10-27/relocation-a-win-for-all -

but the admin staff may have to travel.... I can assure you there's a lot of admin staff living in Berwick and its environs if our present ones don't want to move !! -
how Port ever got that one through is akin to daylight robbery not to mention that the losses are underwritten by the AFL. If you amortise the cost of the stadium upgrade funded by the AFL it is unlikely that it will ever break even.

I can assure you the NT government is a deal taker not a deal maker. Other than the Suns and Brisbane no one is remotely interested in playing there. A fair percentage of the tickets are give aways as I understand it and are probably supplemented by the NT buying a stack of three game memberships. The irony is that we could have done the China deal and be paid for one game the same as we get for two NT games

This is where the power clubs have an advantage. Bolton's payout will be included in the soft salary cap. There is no penalty for exceeding this cap other than a dollar for dollar tax paid to the AFL. So the big earning clubs simply bite the bullet. Harder for the poorer clubs. North are reported to have done an offset deal with Scott. In other words he gets next year's money but it is reduced by the amount he receives at his next job.. if he gets one.

The Darwin stadium only has a capacity of 12.5k and the Alice Springs 10k so the crowd numbers are not that relevant. The game is underwritten by the NT government who carry the crowd risk anyway. It's a soul destroying money opportunity that has no upside. FWIW if you are thinking of growing the membership base, the city of Casey alone has more than twice the population of the whole of Darwin.

how sad... to think it was only a few months ago that we were reading those press articles where the bulk of the experts picked us as Grand finalists if not premiers.... God... I loved swimming in that bathwater. -
My views on his return are form based. He has not demonstrated the ability to run out a full match and play to the required standard. I fully anticipate that he will return to form so it boils down to a question of 70% game time at AFL level where he may struggle or the same or more at VFL level to see if he has touch. As the season is done and dusted it's rather irrelevant but I don't envy him returning in a "big match" and being lambasted by supporters because he's not on the top of his game.

finishing 13th and below is a slight advantage both in the draft choice and also in the draw for 2020. In theory the bottom 6 do not play the top six twice. Both Richmond and the Bulldogs won the GF from this position.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Dumpling Cup..... Port Adelaide took on St Kilda in China on Sunday afternoon (AEST), but fans quickly noticed there was something amiss at the stadium - there was almost nobody there. The game, held at Shangai’s Jiangwan Stadium, is underwritten by a Chinese company, which also booked several hundred seats for staff and other guests to attend the game. Unfortunately, things din’t go to plan. According to Fox Footy’s Alastair Lynch, several buses which had been arranged to ferry hundreds of would-be spectators were sent to the wrong stadium. “The Shanghai company which underwrites this game has 400 guests and staff members on buses to come to the game,” Lynch reported at half time. “They were taken to the wrong stadium. https://au.sports.yahoo.com/afl-china-sponsor-mix-up-port-adelaide-st-kilda-081228999.html

Moonshadow ... have you seen the size of the modern facilities.... anyway you need to partner.... Here is what Essendon did for example... Essendon partnered with the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) and identified land within the Melbourne Airport as a site for a Sporting and Community Facility. The key stakeholders who provided funding for the facility were the Federal Government, AFL, Victorian State Government, Melbourne Airport and the Essendon Football Club. The development comprised two large ovals (one the size of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the other the size of Etihad Stadium), a running/walking track and a training and administrative building measuring approximately 10,000 square metres built over four levels. We are just so far off this level. By the way Essendon admin and their executive is located at Tullamarine as well. -

Liverpool played in Madrid last night in what is arguably the biggest sporting event of the year. They had bugger all tickets for the fans and it cost a fortune to get there. One would have thought that there was a call to fill Anfield with supporters etc etc but no there were just a couple of relatively small gatherings. The social club is dead... they went the way of the drinking barns of the seventies. Sure to some extent they were replaced by pokies venues but you cannot run a business based on 13 odd Saturday night's in winter. -
The round the boundary advertising in the China game makes for interesting reading... It could be called the Gas and Ore cup with the big natural gas boys (Woodside etc) and iron ore (Rio Tinto, etc) figuring frequently. Strangely enough I haven't noticed BHP... the big Australian. Not too many detailed crowd shots but it looks Anglo Saxon in the main and less than half full. With a population of around 27 million in the greater Shanghai area one would have thought that free ticketing would provide a decent crowd.

Could be the new Rutherglen Red.... never actually took the trip but apparently it was legend. -
The Port CEO was asked on radio what were the KPI's for the Shanghai game and his reply did not reveal one hard measurable outcome. If he doesn't know who does and why is AFL and Government money being wasted on it. He proudly announced that the AFL were the only foreign competition to play in China for championship points... durrrh perhaps that was telling them something

we are talking here of the next ten to twenty years DD so in that sense having a training facility that is within the proverbial bulls roar of other clubs is an issue. -

Lots in that Mr Biffen I have however become resigned to the Casey deal and increasingly see it as the club saviour if we play our cards right. The inner city training ground is pie in the sky. We need to build on the Casey attachment by targeting our marketing dollar towards that area. The shotgun approach is okay for the power clubs but we have to be smarter. No different than political parties targeting marginal seats. How about a few subsidised buses from Casey to the MCG for instance. -
Lot of sense in that post but perhaps Garlett out instead of Spargo. Jeff G on present form is not part of 2020. I'd also rest Jones for a game before or after the bye. JKH and Stretch need to be played. Looking forward, one or both are essential depth players for 2020. Lever definitely needs another run at Casey. His first up game was very rusty and while his first half last week was better it wasn't a full game. Melksham is due back a week or two after the bye. (Sorry make that 3-4 weeks post bye.) And then there is Preuss. Hopefully has a decent a game for Casey next week against the Pies. I would have played him in Darwin due to the conditions but his form against Werribee does not command a QB spot.
