  1. no complaints then about short turn arounds. It was of course a night comp and it was the only fully televised game each week. It wasn't a Mickey Mouse comp.
  2. It wouldn't be the AFL who made the decision. It would be the big ten. Not saying it will happen but you can bet that someone is gaming the figures and when they realise that the broadcast rights pie will stagnate if not get smaller next time round all bets are off.
  3. St Kilda etc as well as ourselves could well be in the firing line. Ten maybe 12 team superleague and those ten/12 would do very well thank you. Ten teams in Melbourne has always been impossible as the size of the pie stagnates.
  4. The strangest thing about the US federal elections is that they are organised by the Sates individually. Could be real chaos as differently coloured States (Red and Blue) go different ways. Cannot understand why they haven't moved to a Federal election commission like we have. They are indeed a strange country sometimes.
  5. Trump will be measured at the polls just like Morrison should be. This why we elect national leaders.
  6. The populations of three of our states/territories are smaller than many local councils. Seven (or is eight) leaders... seven systems.... chaos when you want order
  7. There's something not quite right about individual States making decisions on close downs etc. These are the decisions that should be made by National governments with regard to local conditions. I realise that health is a Sate matter but sometimes problems should be managed on a national if not international basis.
  8. The payout for the stadium owner on the GC could be large if the Suns do cease to exist. Would not be surprised if the contract is guaranteed by the AFL. My guess is that it is all up to the TV rights holders. The AFL will play a season even if they have to play it all in January next year simply because they must have the money from the TV companies. If the TV companies say no then the AFL is in trouble.
  9. Good post... I have always thought our gameplan based on Richmond and to a lesser extent the Dogs requires skilful disposal and quick ball movement. With that comes pressure on the ball carrier. If we don't have the players to execute the plan perhaps its time for a new plan. The plan also leads to a crowded forward line and the easy transition by the opposition to their goal. It will almost certainly fail against the better teams. On reflection it's amazing that Goodwin went in with same tired old gameplan. He really does not appear to have it from a tactical sense.
  10. How can anyone defend this gameplan. We have seven more inside 50's and we're almost 6 goals down
  11. 5 goals in 8 minutes to WCE... so familiar... game effectively over
  12. Why does this game remind me of the orchestra playing on while the Titanic is sinking
  13. Here in Malaysia there is a no movement order and other than going to the shops to buy food no one is allowed outside. The virus level is about the same as Oz.
  14. As long as the TV companies will pay they will play the season even if it means them playing on Christmas day. The clubs are desperate for the money and it underlines how parlous the comp is relative to the big money comps overseas. If the TV companies void their contract then life becomes interesting.
  15. I expect the AFL will give the clubs say a month's notice of an intended restart. Until then players will stay home like the rest of us. The May 31 date is just a guess as we all know
  16. According to 3AW there's an AFL press conference scheduled at the same time as our game.
  17. The South Australian border closure has an exception for professional sporting teams with an approved disease control process in place. We could still see the season limping on.
  18. Time for today's game to be cancelled. No use risking injury to the players in an irrelevant game
  19. well that season didn't last long. You wonder whether they will cancel the game this afternoon. It seems rather pointless given the South Australian lock down. WA will be the next one to announce similar rules and of course Qld.
  20. The "rebuild" will also be in the environment of a new TV rights deal which may not deliver as much money as it has in the past. Channel 7 is almost broke as are the other FTA companies and Foxtel are tired of bleeding money.
  21. Small thing... like many have had lots of flights cancelled on me recently and have been offered refunds etc but I had an internal flight cancelled in Greece. Because it was a budget booking I can only get a credit voucher to use on another flight. No refund option like all the other airlines. Strange... I thought the EU had all these wonderful consumer protection laws.
  22. Good to see the Suns are aiming for another wooden spoon. We are safe from that methinks. GWS are good and Cats not too bad either. Very fast game. Hard not to see 0-2 coming up.
  23. Pubs and restaurants closed from today in the UK along with gyms.
  24. For remote indigenous communities this makes good sense but I'm not sure I agree with the wider bans especially for Australians.
  25. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/20/chinese-life-slowly-gets-back-to-normal-as-the-epidemic-subsides-coronavirus worth a read in these times...... For many in China, life is slowly returning to normal, giving other countries a glimpse of what might await them once the worst of the epidemic has passed.
