  1. will definitely answer a lot of questions. Going into 2019 we would pencil all those games in as wins. No excuses especially with Geelong at the MCG. Of course we have got such an easy draw because we are not worthy of a marquee game. (every game a twilight game !!) Let's hope we start well as we could with luck see some real prime timespots against big opposition if we were to win the first four.
  2. the surface should be at its best and the game will be unaffected by wind and rain. A perfect opportunity to see if we have come to win this season. 60 point win would be nice.
  3. Interstate travel
  4. think about it.... if all the Qld games before round 8 are away games then even if they are stuck in Qld their remaining "home games" will be in Qld.They wont have to travel. It's a guaranteed win. Same for the SA teams if they get a similar ruling. Will the AFL allow it... who knows..... but the Eagles football manager was quoted as saying that was his understanding of how it would work. "The Eagles are ramping up their preparations for their month-long stint at the Gold Coast high performance centre, with no players so far making themselves unavailable for the trip. Vozzo said he understood the games in Queensland will all be considered 'away' games for the Eagles." https://www.afl.com.au/news/435737/eagles-apply-for-special-dispensation-for-more-staff
  5. I posted this on another thread but if the WA and SA clubs get away with calling all games in the Qld hub away games the impact is dramatic.... "If Eagles etc have only played away prior to Round 8 they will have played away 7 times. At most they will need to play away two more times and of course one of those away games could be against Freo in Perth. It will then mean that following Round 7 Melbourne teams will on average be playing interstate once every two weeks while the likes of Crows and Eagles will not travel again. The Eagles will have their revenge not to mention a massive home ground advantage. It is lucky that Brisbane are an okay team or we could quite likely see the Eagles going 8-0 and then having 8 or nine games in Perth."
  6. That gets you to the end of round 8. If Eagles etc have only played away prior to Round 8 they will have played away 7 times. At most they will need to play away two more times and of course one of those away games could be against Freo in Perth. It will then mean that following Round 7 Melbourne teams will on average be playing interstate once every two weeks while the likes of Crows and Eagles will not travel again. 7. AFL site is reporting the Eagles Football manager Craig Vozzo as saying that all games in the Queensland hub will be considered away games for the Eagles. If this holds true for Freo and the two SA clubs the number of interstate trips required by the Melbourne clubs will jump. Add to this that teams will be flying up and back on the same day for interstate matches on chartered aircraft and it makes road trips particularly difficult. Eagles have played the AFL sympathy card well and are looking good for a top two finish is my bet. "The Eagles are ramping up their preparations for their month-long stint at the Gold Coast high performance centre, with no players so far making themselves unavailable for the trip. 8. Has potential Neil. I see the nearby Knox Regional Sports Park got $140M for facilities upgrade in 2018
  9. correct full contact from Monday. The approach will be interesting. MFC need to win its first few matches to get momentum and more importantly get good air time in the next block of four games to be announced. Lose and it Sunday afternoon all year.
  10. why not ?? Pies moved from Vic Park Bombers moved from Windy Hill Hawks moved from Glenferrie etc etc etc
  11. Is Eddie becoming the Donald of AFL ?
  12. Eddie Everywhere has done it again. Insensitive comment on radio re Jack Stevens
  13. Time to think out of the box. The Community leagues should be running simple athletics program or the like with emphasis on team work. Get the young out and about and if contact etc is allowed go from there. Even dare I say it...no tackle AFLX
  14. One thing they are waiting for is the logistics to be determined for the SA round 2 game. SA govt are refusing to allow people such as umpires TV cameramen etc to fly in. They will need to be locally based.
  15. well argued Deeko. I think we all assumed Weideman would provide the counterfoil formerly provided by Hogan but he has simply not come up. Weid's success is vital to our season in 2020. If he does not come through we may as well trade him and rely on Jackson
  16. Gosch's plus Punt Road could work for Richmond. Not perfect but definitely worth evaluating on the assumption MFC might go elsewhere.
  17. It'll be a streaming company with Kayo and its new product Binge most likely. The Foxtel Box people will continue (albeit declining) as there are many who like its convenience (not sure why). Mind you they have to fix the digital rights issues that require Kayo to take the Ch 7 feed.
  18. Richmond will soon be swimming in money and will be looking at what to do with it. They'll keep Punt road as a community base and develop a full training complex wherever. May not start for 5-10 years but the Tigers Board would be remiss if they don't have a working group looking at the possibilities.
  19. Government would pump money into high performance sports at Casey. Most of it is already there with athletics track.swimming complex etc
  20. modern training facility two full size ovals indoor training complex gym and pool when was the last time you visited Glenferrie oval? Richmond will be the next to move
  21. new game plan against the power clubs might help. Sounds like they have no idea
  22. does that include away games against Melbourne clubs ?
  23. They will but the community benefit coming from upgrading an exclusive facility for an elite sporting club in South Yarra is very low. If we can mount a case for community benefit well and good but I just cannot see it.
  24. Many of these assistant coaches would in normal times find jobs with private schools and community leagues but I cannot see that happening. Horrible times
  25. Geelong could potentially get 8 games at Kardinia Park. Massive home ground advantage which no other club will get. As to travel there are eight interstate teams which will mean each Melbourne based team should travel 4 times. (Assuming home and away games against interstate teams are evenly spread. You could in theory have a team such as Collingwood play all interstate teams as their home games and the Melbourne based teams as away games...But of course the AFL would not allow that.) Where it gets complicated is if Hawks and North play in Tasmania and of course who draws the short straw of going to Darwin to play the Suns. No reason that the big Melbourne clubs should not travel to Tasmania and/or Darwin but we know that wont happen. Finally there's our game in Alice Springs to think about.
