Caroline Wilson's descent into gutter journalism
Dr John Dee replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Are you kidding? It's already been referred to on this thread. It's called natural justice. It give the accused in any situation a right to provide a defence. It's not at the AFL's discretion. -
The Club website is adopting a 'Head-in-the-sand' attitude

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. That's more or less life for the MFC at the moment. -
Caroline Wilson's descent into gutter journalism
Dr John Dee replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
The most important thing that's been said about all this so far. Wilson doesn't need to adhere to natural justice, she can leap to whatever foregone conclusion she likes on the basis of whatever incomplete information she's got. At this stage, I'm more interested in where she's getting it from. I presume someone in the AFL is leaking ... but is it accurate information or is she being used for some other purpose? I can think of a few without descending into conspiracy theories, the most obvious would be about trying to put the frighteners on other potential witnesses. They only have three statements about the vault so far it seems. What about the other seven? If they've got a different story to tell, the investigation might prefer to exert a bit more pressure on them that can't just be exerted in an interview. All this incontrovertible 'evidence' of tanking that's suddenly upon us could well have a touch of desperation to it. Maybe that's a vain hope, but Redleg's point remains: there's a long way to go even to get to the courtroom door, and the AFL is likely to do anything it can to avoid ending up there. -
Since you only mention one fishing line we won't count 'litterally', or even 'I speak english good'. Or is there just too much bait on your line (tends to sink to the bottom if there is). lol

Well, the source might be reliable (in being identifiably connected with another source) but that doesn't make the information reliable. And after that, as others have already pointed out, reliability ain't credibility.

At the time the contract was signed, Adelaide agreed to trade Tippett for a second round pick regardless of his actual worth at the time of the trade. That's an undertaking to act in a way that could distort the value of places in the draft, whenever it might occur. I don't think the AFL will be too worried about whether it actually happened or not, the intention to tamper will presumably be more than enough for them.

It's ok, all the whingers and whiners are busy on the Who the Hell is Responsible? Thread. They'll discover this one soon enough and everything will be back to normal.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CAMERON PEDERSEN
Dr John Dee replied to Hannibal's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mind you, the spin that's been put on it there is that we're 'struggling' to come up with a deal to satisfy North, not that they're being greedy (which obviously they are). At least, I hope it's spin and we're not so desperate that we'll do something stupid. -

Perhaps he might look at his own career if he wants some measure of this youth and age issue. -
Me too. But I love the idea of doom and groomers. They'll be the ones who get nice haircuts for the apocalypse.
-
Trouble is: common sense never is. It's always someone's version.

Not sure that the comparison quite works. Myer can go out and get anyone they want to replace a lost employee, and pay whatever they like to make sure there's no loss of skills etc. All the other 'employees' in this case are tied up in contracts, the clubs are tied up with salary caps and so on. But I agree that the AFL has let this thing run round and round itself and nobody knows or can have any confidence in what the outcome is going to look like. I'd be a bit happier if they even had a theory about what they were doing, but it looks a lot like off the cuff policy making. Not that we've ever seen that from the AFL before.

Still hasn't occurred to you that your 'gotcha' moment wasn't one, has it? But as others have pointed out, this is a thread about Mitch so I think I'll just get on with what others have to say.

Just thought I'd also check on your spelling Hardtack. The OED doesn't recognise misspelling, so we're not even talking alternatives here. Maybe you can find an American dictionary that does, but that's not really English is it?
-
From the complete OED mis-ˈspelling, vbl. n. [mis-1 3.] A bad spelling; false orthography.
-
It is actually. 'Insite' is a mis-spelling. 'Good on ya' is a way of rendering vernacular speech.

Thoughtful and important post, Jack. For me it's a case of more in sorrow than in anger, even if I can understand why others get angry about how it all fell out.

Just as Binman thought, didn't take long. And stuffed full of cliches too, just to show how ritualised negativity has become round here.

They might not have much chance to change their minds. But maybe they'll live to regret it. -
I really hope so. Mind you, it'll shut down half the activity on this forum and what'll we read then?

Has the MFC shot itself in the foot?
Dr John Dee replied to Demonsterative's topic in Melbourne Demons
"A win is a win, I guess. But when are we gonna get some real inside mids/outside mids/forwards/backs?" [strike out whichever doesn't apply ... whoops, this is Melbourne, don't strike out any] or maybe: "Geez, that's great, but I heard a rumour/my sources tell me that the tanking inquiry is finally finished and the AFL's gonna take the flag away anyway." -

Just remember: he's not the messiah. But I won't mind if he does a very good impersonation. -
I'd be pretty sure that this is an example of the culture thing being reduced entirely to cliche. Probably sounded to Kurt like a good reason since everyone's been referring to' Sydney culture' recently. But I read in the SMH on the weekend that he wanted to go to the Swans because of Longmire and how he (Tippett) has never been coached by anyone over 5'9". Even in these days of total professionalism he still can't bring himself to cough up the real reason.
