  1. So if no Hawk players stuck up for buddy then why is he part of Jordan Lewis wedding party?

FFS some people need to think before posting rubbish as usual.

The issue wasn't that Dunn stuck up for Mitch. It was that he criticised Dee supporters for their angry response to Mitch leaving. He probably intended to criticise the poor taste comments made but the way it came across was that he was potting his own (Dee's) supporters.

The Lewis/Buddy comparison isn't the same. Frawley and other Dee players are attending Rivers' forthcoming wedding and supporters aren't commenting on that.

The Dunn/Clark thing was completely different.

BTW, Hawks players didn't let their friendship stop them from physically going after Buddy in the GF. I hope ours do the same with Clark (and Frawley).

  2. Caroline Wilson is reporting: Hird to Face The Axe: Paul Little has called an emergency board meeting for early on Thursday to rule on Hird's decision to act against the advice of his club.Little and his chief executive Xavier Campbell are understood to have repeatedly urged the coach to abandon his legal battle but Hird to date has refused, insisting he is acting upon a matter of principle. At 5.30 pm on Wednesday, the club did not expect Hird to attend its 2014 best and fairest function

Most likely his 'principle' is by threatening to appeal he will force EFC 's hand to sack him and collect a contract payout and collect a cool $2m!! Is there an adjective to describe how despicable this mercenary man is??

Hird = persona-non-grata in AFL and even with the most die-hard of supporters!

  3. 2014 AFL Offseason @theafloffseason 18h18 hours ago

Both Taylor Hunt and Travis Varcoe have declined an offer to join Melbourne as part of a deal for Mitch Clark.

    Good!

Given Mahoney's comments this morning this could easily read: "Melbourne decline to make an offer to Hunt and Varcoe as part of Mitch Clark deal".

    Face saving by said players!

  4. Wonder if there is an emergency Board meeting this afternoon ahead of their AGM tonight. Would expect some aggressive Member questions at AGM re Bomber (the coach) status! Expect an uproar if EFC let him slip. Will be enjoyable to sit back and watch the sparks fly!

Edit: sorry, think it could be their B&F tonight so we may need to wait a while for the sparks to fly!

  5. Delighted that we signed Goodwin when we did, otherwise we could be part of the circus that is about to unfold with GCS & Adelaide looking for coaches and Bulldogs & Essendon potentially looking for coaches...we can sleep easy, folks!

  6. Think its time to bring this up.

I tweeted paige Cardona about Angus Brayshaw and Paul Roos being nterested.

she tweeted me back saying that every sandy game she went to Roosy was in the huddle breaks talking to Brayshaw.

I reckon its an interesting insight and im a massive fan of Brayshaw. Tough inside midfield with good skill on both side of his body.

I love the sound of that but given sandy are affiliated with the saints, would they allow Roos into their huddles?

  7. Not sure on which thread to put this...there is a bit of commentary around like: Adelaide & Bulldogs are 'basket cases'; Collingwood & Bulldogs have a mini player exodus because of coaches and Essendon & GCS coaches have hatchets hanging over their heads.

My point? It is such a good feeling to not have that negative commentary about us and that for once we have 3-4 years of clear air and stability about our club. Hopefully, this helps during this recruiting season.

  8. It looks like double speak! For us to actually announce we are approaching Crows there must be some real possibility that he can be had. By all accounts there have been plenty of overtures to him. Otherwise why would we make a public statement and waste time and energy.

  9. That suggests you think that Paul Connor actually cares what Collingwood gets out of the trade. Connor is concerned with two things:

    1. Getting the best contractual arrangement for his player. Doubt that factors in the club that the player is leaving.

    2. Ensuring that the player goes to the club of his choice, or at least to a club that the player is willing to join. There is a tenuous link between this and the needs of Collingwood.

His job is not to care about what happens to Collingwood. That is what the list managers, Eddie and co are there to worry about, just like our guys are looking after our interests.

I was being facetious!! Nonetheless, Collingwood will accept the highest bid so the manager has a keen interest in getting a higher trade position.

BTW...his manager is Ben Niall not Paul Connors.

  10. I wouldn't believe much out of Collingwood atm, I have a few connections with the club and all have said that the coaches personnel management skills need work - it's a 'my way or the highway scenario' and players are choosing to take the highway.

    http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2014-09-29/lumumba-a-good-fit-for-dees-says-manager

It's up on the MFC website, not sure what that indicates however.

...indicates that his manager is talking him up so that he can get a better trade for Collingwood out of Melbourne! Call me a cynic....

  11. There is a contra arguement that goes "It is too painful to watch for a MFC supporter"

Coup's avatar looks like a young fella talking od ...so he hasn't suffered long enough to understand that for a Dee supporter, such pain goes beyond feeling bitter! Hopefully he will never need to know what that is like and the team comes good.

Nonetheless, this masochistic Demon watched the GF all thru.

  12. Hmmm....they got lucky in 2001 with hodge and 2004 with ruffy, franklin and lewis (all pick 7 or less!). They made plenty of blunders though - eg thorpe, dowler, ellis, brennan, ries.

What they have done is get good picks in round 2 and 3 eg hill, mitchell, etc.

In addition, they have picked up good players from other teams: Hale, Gibson, Gunston, Burgoyne, McEvoy, Lake, Spangher. Overall, just brilliant list management. Their challenge will come in a few years when Hodge, Hale, Gibson, Mitchell, Gibson, Sewell, Lake retire.

Clarkson may well retire with them, especially if they win a 4th. Its hard to imagine him going to coach another team. I think he will do a Roos and go out a one team coach, at a time of his choosing. Hate the hawks but am in awe of what Clarkson has achieved.

  13. Disagree with the first half, agree with the second. Seems increasingly likely that his cards were stamped by Roos the moment he tried to play the club. The tail does not wag the dog, and Roos will achieve more with pick 3 than a man of Frawley's character will achieve in a career.

Really like what Roos did here. His view of forthcoming FA's was 'don't sign, don't play seniors'. For various reasons he couldn't do that with Chip.

Next best thing for Roos: 'don't sign, well there is the door'! No coming back. Sends clear message to other FA's: Don't stuff us around!

  14. I agree that in this specific case (Dangerfield) his record is good so it's better than relying on someone like Clark. But the principle remains - the past does not predict the future 100%. I'd rather a couple of guys who may step up to his level. The time for a 'star' recruit is when we are a little better and the risk is less.

Yes, the desire for a 'star' recruit shows a strong need for a 'messiah' still. We need to shake that.
