This isn't the right thread as it is our players being targeted but not sure where else to put it.

Don't like the sound of this about Sestan, AMW and Verall:

"... a trio of developing prospects — including two untried rookies — have made their way into the notebooks of rival recruiters as they build strong reserves form".

"The trio’s development as two rookie selections and a Category B rookie respectively, paired with their versatility is seen as their biggest drawcard for rival recruiters keeping tabs".

Not sure what the rules are for trading rookies but the return would be very little. We've put three years of development into them. Let hope we don't lose them for lack of opportunity and that investment is lost..

When he signed his deal, it was reported that he and CP5 get a percentage of the cap. So this may be wrong - but I understand his salary goes up as the cap goes up.

Correct for Oliver but not sure that applied to Trac who signed his contract a year earlier.

Oliver's 2022 contract is indexed to the TPP increases. It increases by 37% from 2023 to 2027 (end of current CBA). That is why the media is saying he will be paid $1.7.m by end of his contract in 2030. A new CBA in 2028 onward means his contract in 2030 will be even higher.

  3. Like others I loathe most AFL scribes, some more than others.

But lets not spare the lowlifes who feed them from the shadows. If they are mfc people, from his management team or friends it is negligent, shameful and the ultimate betrayal.

They all have a duty of care and right now that care looks rather flimsy. People outside those groups have no business commenting on any player, especially if not from their club.

It is a simple equation: No leaks = no headlines !!!

Xerri is his only real threat and i reckon there's a lot of anti-Melbourne people already in the media flying his flag. Max needs to have 4-5 more of these type of games (i.e. 10 votes) to secure his AA.

There may be a lot of anti-Melbourne media people but reckon you would struggle to find an anti-Max person amongst them.

He is revered by all. And rightly so.

    West Coast v Melbourne

    10 Max Gawn MELB
    8 Christian Petracca MELB
    4 Daniel Turner MELB
    4 Kade Chandler MELB
    4 Jack Viney MELB

Coach voting fairly unanimous. The split:

    • 5/5 Gawn

    • 4/4 Petracca

    • 3 and 1 or 1 and 3, or 2 and 2 for Turner, Chandler, Viney

Max and Trac again voted the best two on the ground. Altho to be fair Max was streets ahead of everyone else.

Good to see Turner get votes from both coaches as did Viney and Chandler.

Max flying up the leader board:

Oh please not JVR on the back of one good game against a terrible Richmond outfit. I know we need height but the guy messes up our forward line play. He seldom takes a mark against a good opponent. If he is in I hope they play him as a decoy drawing a good defender away from the action.

Take you pick, od: JVR or Jefferson 😁

  7. Hawks are gettable this week 😁

They may be 3rd on the ladder but they've played 6 of the bottom 8 teams, winning 5. Their other win was GWS, 8th on the ladder.

They lost convincingly to Port; 12th. Their second loss was to Geel; 7th.

Their great %'age is due to big wins over Rich and WCE.

You can only beat who you play but that record doesn't say roaring success/finals contender to me.

Dees by 7 pts in a nail biter!

The anonymous 'Staff Writer's' description of the incident is nothing like what the MRO said and quoted in said article. There clearly think he should have been suspended!

Would love to know who the AFL writers are hiding behind the Staff Wrtiers label. Probably, Purple !!!

If Oliver is so desperate to get out then why would we agree to pay a cent of his contract. Let him negotiate terms with his new employer.

    Very good point.

In this article Jake Niall writes:

"Geelong’s position was that they would stump up a certain amount – let’s say $850,000 – and it would be left to the Demons, Clayton and his management, to work out the remains (how much he gave up, how much money Melbourne picked up)."

    https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-multimillion-dollar-decision-how-demons-missed-the-boat-on-oliver-20250501-p5lvrx.html

Last year Oliver reportedly said he would take a pay cut. If he wants out then he wears the consequences of that decision. Why should our sal cap be stuffed up for the next 5 years!

If any player wants out, especially a contracted and important player I just hope we don't become all obliging but go for fair trade value.

There's a snippet of a post match Fox Footy interview in the rooms with Trac on the AFL website that clearly went for longer than the minute and a half of it they showed, but neither the live Kayo broadcast nor the full replay showed it. Instead they crossed to some golf tournament. Does anyone know how to get access to it? He was talking about Clarry.

A split second after play had stopped a roos player booted the ball into the stands. A free kick should have been paid against him for time wasting.

Wasn't there a free to North before or on blowing the whistle. I can see (but don't agree with) the 'advantage' logic but why a 'time wasting' free against?

apparently the down field ump paid a free to essendon at the same time. so if 2 umps award constrasting frees at the same time its a ball up. who knew!

    Were there two frees?

  13. Reckon we will miss Gawn's marking field more than his ruck work. But Petty did a fine job of around the field marking last year when Gawn didn't play.

This time we need back up for only 10 min a quarter and it will probably be shared: TMc in d50, Turner/Petty in fwd50 and Petty around the ground

  14. It is sad if not tragic when the AFL feel the need to add this to an article about a player having a challenging time.

TV producers and editors need to rein the hyperbole back and be held accountable.

Or the AFL should put some conditions on the 'accreditations' they give out.

He was approached a month ago. Saying he was headhunted makes it sound like he's a coup for the club. He certainly wasn't our first choice. Let's see if his business connections help with the home base, but surely we needed a CEO with a footy background. Not someone who tried to get on the Essendon board and couldn't manage that.

As to his business acumen, which business has he run to the scale of the Melbourne Football Club?

Yes, it is unusual to appoint a CEO from totally outside an industry.

I'd like to know what experience he has in running a 'customer facing' organisation that delivers an ongoing service (or product). If not running such, senior management or a variety of experience at them.

imv events organising, running associations are quite a different ball game.

Does anyone have his cv and his experience ... I'd like to know what experience he has that is relevant to this role.

Cornes would be loving all this as it gives him what he craves the most and that is attention.

Yeah, he will just double down on his stance.

But hopefully he cuts out the personal stuff and vitriol toward people especially young players.

In any other situation it is abuse.

North slaps media ban on Kane Cornes after Sheezel comments

North Melbourne will not engage with Kane Cornes on any of his media platforms across TV, radio and digital.

These are kids thrust into the limelight. I'm sure Harry can handle it but lots may not. Their mental well being needs to be protected.

"The issue came to a head when Channel Seven requested Kangaroos coach Alastair Clarkson be part of a pre-game TV interview that involved Cornes ahead of North's prime-time clash with Essendon on Thursday night.

The request was rejected and Viney said it came after what the Roos felt were "personal ... vindictive" attacks on the club.

    👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻to North and Todd V.!

  18. Folks need to get over Goodwin's contract timing and the $.

He signed a contract in 2021 and forfeited some $ to keep the coaching and football staff and stay within the vastly reduced covid soft cap.

It was renewed in 2023 and maybe there was some 'catch up' $ he forfeited and certainly reward for the Premiership in 2021 and top 2 in 2022..

Regardless of what happens in the future he has earnt the contract extensions and the $.

A tiny bit of perspective on what future oppos can latch onto: after the horrendous rounds 1-5 last quarters - not only in points differential but also in scoring shots (16 to 36) - rounds 6 and 7 scoring shots have been in credit, 12 to 11 (1.6 v 3.3 and 1.4 v 4.1)

Clutching at straws there a bit, Tim.😉 ... you mean we have to be at least 3 goals up at 3/4 time to not be over run ... 🙄

Le's kick straight and we might win a 4th.
