"All I know is that when Melbourne sought it, it was the worst seven-year performance in the modern history of the AFL," he said. "If ever there was a case based on what that priority pick was about, we had the case." Great to hear Jackson stand up for us and tell it as it is!
  2. Great to see a side wipe that arrogant grin from Hawks faces! Players and fans! The Tigers have risen from the ashes again, altho more impressively this year than 2014. In both 2014 and 2015 they had bad starts in terms of W:L. The reason I suggest is Brett Delidio! He was out injured in the first half of both and it took a while for him to impact play again. So if he doesn't play, Tigers almost certainly lose. He stands up week after week. We won in 2014 and 2015 when he was out. Last night he kicked the 1st 3 goals. Take him out of play and Tigers struggle to win.
  3. That is because he hasn't done anything for them yet. Maybe they thought he would come good in 'their system'. They are learning a 'leopard doesn't change its spots'! On another item: does the AFL need to tighten the '20min sub on for a concussed player' rule. Frawley went off and there was some commentary about 'when was he concussed' and there was skeptiscism as he didn't go into the rooms or do the 'usual' tests. And Hawks needed Hartung to come on to give them some speed and impact the game, which he did. Hawthorn have developed a few tricks to stretch the rules without penalty and seriously disadvantage the opposition in that game: Gibson's stomach punches, Mitchell's knee causing corked thighs. This pseudo concussion might be another. Hope AFL look at the Frawley temporary sub out and ask Hawks questions and check the concussion tests. Otherwise Hawthorn will continue to stretch the rules. Would hate to see this tactic in a 'sudden death' Final or the GF. Clarkson got bristly when asked about it after the game.
  4. They AFL has approved the ideas Jetta referred to last night on the Magarook Footy Show. http://www.theage.com.au/sport/melbourne-players-to-wear-aboriginal-colours-in-support-of-adam-goodes-20150731-gios2n.html Both Casey and seniors will wear arm bands in the Aboriginal flag colours. The team met during the week and Nev, Jeff and Jay had the final say on. The colours will be worn on the forearm. Nev says what a lot on here feel: "As players, and as a club, we want to clearly show our support for Adam Goodes during what has been a really difficult time for him and his family. "We also want to show our support and help drive a message around educating Australian society on Indigenous culture. Proud of my team and club today.
  5. I do not find it useful to use the labels 'racist' and 'non-racist' as I do not know a person's context nor their true values. Maybe the Swans President erred in connecting booing and being racist because not everyone who booed would be nor see themselves as one. Would that be a cop out by him. I don't know. He would have been a lot less inflammatory. What I do know is that while such labels are being bandied about and used as insults it will be difficult to objectively see where Adam Goodes is come from. He has only a handful of games left. Can we move on from the famous Aussie pass-time of bringing down a 'tall poppy' to the wonderful Aussie virtue of giving him a 'fair go' and ensuring his last few games are enjoyable for everyone and giving him a fitting, Champion's farewell.
  6. An article by Tracey Holmes has prompted me to start this thread of support for Adam Goodes. http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=post&section=post&do=new_post&f=2 Last night I watched the Magarook Football show. I am a fan of Goodes and support his stand but I never fully understood the issue. From the show I learnt: - Until 1967 Indigenous Australians could not vote. - Until 1967 Indigenous Australians came under the 'Fauna and Flora' Act. It pains me to even try and tell you what that means. But it means they were legally considered animals. I hang my head in shame over that. I now fully understand why words like 'ape', 'zoo', 'king kong' are so devastating for them. - Indigenous Australians are still not recognised in our Constitution (this is in the process of being remedied). - They feel racism differently to that of migrants to Australia because Australia is their Homeland and colonisation was forced upon them. (Before you jump on me for supporting this, I am the child of European immigrant parents so I know exactly how racism feels, for as long as I can remember even to this day. Racism is racism but I can now see how it is felt differently by Indigenous Australians.) - Adams Goodes did not call Australia Day, Invasion Day. Check the transcript. - Adam Goodes did not vilify a 13 year old. In fact he did the opposite. Listen to his comments. Nev Jetta was on the show and he said the team had something lined up to show their support but couldn't say as they were discussing it with the AFL. I look forward to my team proudly supporting Adam. I support my team in this and this thread is to support Adam Goodes. If you can't do that you might choose to refrain from posting. The mods may shortly close this thread and I will understand why. In the meantime, I agree with Tracey Holmes' call: Play on, Adam. Play on!
  7. An article about is a pp worth it - looks at who is taken. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/brisbane-lions/brisbane-lions-priority-pick-is-it-worth-it-20150730-ginptn.html It doesn't really draw a conclusion but if used wisely the answer is yes: Some standout PP selection players: Alan Didak, Nick Riewoldt, Luke Hodge, Chris Judd, Adam Cooney, Jarryd Roughead, Brett Deledio, Ryan Griffen, Marc Murphy, Dale Thomas, Alex Rance. A few Premierships, Brownlow medals and Captains in that lot! Unfortunately for us one way or another we botched our pp's. BTW the article shows we had 5 as they count Jack T as a pp, should be 4. Watch all the Club Presidents/Coaches that came out against us getting a pp, now go quiet for the Lions request. The silence will be deafening! It really annoys me how tanking is now 'legitamised'. Clubs announce a 'rebuild', trade away stars, lose games and fall to the bottom of the ladder ala St Kilda. Carlton about to do the same. Brisbane talking about losing the last 6 games. Are these not examples of 'a club not doing their best to win'? Yeah, go ahead and tank folks, just call it a rebuild or something else, the AFL is OK with it!! No smear or public ridicule on them!
  8. Interesting article or eos player moves: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-07-30/staying-or-going-this-years-afl-exchange-period-previewed?utm_medium=RSS Regarding Howe: "The high-flying utility has put off contract talks with the Demons...and his future remains clouded...a number of other clubs are believed to be monitoring him carefully. Industry sources suggest Howe could attract rival offers of up to $600,000 a season, which Melbourne is unlikely to match." Another indication that he is Gone! As an aside, notice the ridiculously low figures for Motlop $500+k and Suckling $400k. Would take either in a heartbeat.
  9. An unbelievable leader. He can also teach them a thing or two about grit and determination to give one's all.
  10. LOL...I am desperate to see Dawes out of the team so Pedersen coming back this season was exciting!!
  11. Yes, you have to wonder who was behind the renewal. I doubt it was Roos as Terlich was delisted by the Swans when he was their coach. Goodwin wasn't with us. So was it Mahoney, Viney?? Surprisingly, I could not find anyone with the title of 'List Manager' or something like it on our website. Who is responsible for balancing short term and long term interests of coaches, recruiters and Club? If it is Viney some key decisions in recent years are a worry.
  12. Salem has another week in the VFL with increased game time Pedersen might play VFL later in the year...YEAY!! Kent to face fitness test not playing anywhere this week Frost is a month away... Misson's full fitness reporthttp://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/38761-changes-v-collingwood/page-5#entry1130098 So no new players available for selection this week.
  13. I wonder if Jack continues to play as he has and beats the very best midfielders in the game if he can make AA? Very good to see Bennell have a good return to the game. He has had a rough trot recently and good on him for taking it on the chin and getting on with it. Let his footy do the talking. That is quite an awesome team this week.
  14. I'm back od but I stumbled onto the 'Radio and football racists' thread. It looked very dangerous in there so am seeking refuge back here with just the angst of my football team to deal with.
  15. The coffee pot is on, od! Message to self: Do not log on to DL after a terrible loss for at least 3 days! Message to self: Get over Dawes incompetence
  16. I haven't seen it on the MFC website where the AFL usually posts club/player articles. Do you have a link to where/when it was posted?
  17. I'm still angry about how we lost to the Saints so I may be over reacting to this article on Jack Watts: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-07-27/was-criticism-necessary-asks-watts Jack's comments were clearly before the StK game (some were made months ago) but instead of writing the article last week, Guthrie waits till today after we lose to write another 'negative' article dredging up his past and our poor performances. The AFL should not allow articles like that to be published on their website. The AFL are there to help the game, supposedly! Jack deserves better. Rant over.
  18. Agree. I'm still angry with Dawes. He lost the game off his own boot in the 1st quarter! What might have been if he got just one or two of those 4 bloopers right? We had to play catch up all day because of him and we never caught up.
  19. With you 110% RB. Its easy for some on this thread to critcise Roos on 360. But 360 it is a 2 edged sword for him. On the one hand he gives us and our sponsors much needed exposure and gives supporters a bit more insight into the club. The flip side is he must dread going on week in and week out to explain the inexplicable - that his team were pathetic. Again! He can't say they are pathetic, that they are dumb ie lack footy IQ (except Watts), that the leaders go missing etc When referring to 'the past' he is saying the same stuff posters say on DL: the poor drafting, the dysfunctional club, lack of leadership etc I don't get why posters are happy to write this themselves but object to the coach saying it. What do those posters want - A public whipping followed by a public hanging! An important part of Roos job is to give Goodwin breathing space. Imagine if he handed over to Goodwin at the end of the year (as some want) and we continue playing like crap. It would be a Neeld like mauling frenzy by the media. No thank you!
  20. The Bulldogs are doing what Port did in Hinkely's first year. Their talent was there ready to go. For various reasons, ours isn't It was interesting to read the table 'Song' put up. We are 10th for games played. But games by a handful of players: Lumumba, Cross, Jamar, Vince skews the picture. We are devoid of a 'generation' of players in the 23 to 26 age group (50 to 100 games). While I accept we have to be patient till we get that experience there is absolutely no excuse for our pitiful performances of late.
  21. 1) Lets face it he came to us because he was a mate of Neeld and Leigh Brown! 2) That he is 'much less a failure than Rodan and Byrnes' makes him a seriously, seriously bad recruit. Right up there with some of ourdisastrous high draft picks. What is more those guys did not cost pick #20, get a 4 year contract at 500k+ per annum! Dawes does not deserve to be on our list. On a value for money basis he should be the first to go, contract or no.
  22. I heard on radio last week that soccer require cut grass to 10mm and aussie rules to 20mm. The 10mm gives the soccer ball a truer bounce and it 'skids' over the surface. The guy calling in (a sports ground curator) said 10mm is never going to happen on a field used for aussie rules.
  23. The benefit of dropping someone and it making a statement. Grimes: "I do feel like it was a wake-up call and something I needed."... The club's coaching staff urged the 26-year-old to be more accountable on his opponent and not sag off looking for easy kicks. They also implored him to be more bold when in possession, and create the run and drive backline... http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-07-27/grimes-desperate-to-cement-his-place-after-earlyseason-wakeup-call?utm_medium=RSS Dawes is the first to dropped, then after next week drop Dunn. They are our senior leaders and are setting a terrible example to young guys. Bring them back only when they earn their spot. We lose with them we might as well lose without them.
  24. Out: Dawes must go. He killed confidence and lost the game off his own boot in the first quarter. In: Fitzy to play either forward or back depending on where McDonald and Howe line up.
  25. We had 52 midfield turnovers today! Says it all, really
