MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 20
Lucifers Hero replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
dee-luded is a very odd cat! Not sure you want to get to know him too well Currently in the slammer - has now been there for at least 4 months...don't know when Nasher will let him out. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 20
Lucifers Hero replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Garlett owes himself and us. It was his brain fades last time vs Hawks that cost us momentum (we probably still would have lost) and cost him his place in the team. Importantly, it was the first time real question marks about his performance were raised. A heap of goals would be good but just getting his touch and endeavour back would be a big plus for our forward line working well. A good game for redemption! -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 20

Correct. Roos said he is being rested entirely: '...Dawesy definitely [needs a rest] with a six-day break, with his body the way it is at the moment...He came in, after having a weekend off and played really well the first game, but we’ve got to be mindful of that'. Not good if he needs a week or two rest every few weeks. If his body can't handle it that alone may force him to retire as it won't get any easier to front up every week as he gets older - 29 next year, not old but physical issues not good for a big guy. -

In: Bugg, Weideman, Oliver Out: Chris Dawes, Josh Wagner, Matt Jones Emg: Colin Garland, Cameron Pedersen, Matt Jones. So Pedo would come in if Hogan doesn't get up. All looks pretty good to me! -
I share that view of H. However, he suffered concussion while playing for the club. (The concussion may have triggered other issues, who knows). Overall if he cannot continue, I'm not sure he should forfeit the income from the final year of his contract. I think our club is equally principled and they would work out something that is fair.
-
Well said hemingway and totally share your views. Undoubtedly, he has many strengths that he brings to the club/team. The parts underlined are those on which he has a bit of work to do, imo. He has some ?marks on his values in decision making which hopefully don't come back and bite him when it comes to earning respect. While he will have a honeymoon period early success is essential to keep the media wolves at bay and to feed the optimism Roos has sown. The club has done everything possible to 'set him up for success'. We just have to wait and let it unfold.

Who are the Dees chasing for 2017 and at what cost?
Lucifers Hero replied to junk's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure what it all means, b. Still get the feeling Hibberd doesn't really want to come to the Dees and is using us as a bargainig chip to get what he wants from EFC. Really only want players at the Dees when they have the right motivation ie win a flag with us! -

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Lucifers Hero replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Have no opinion of GNF or anyone. Simply saying someone is playing the probabilities and applying some logic ie: All involved have consistently said JH will stay and JH wants to wait for CBA. CBA now known to Clubs so reasonable to conclude JH willing to re- sign. JH wants to avoid last years Jan/Feb fiasco around his contract Therefore, reasonable to conclude JH will re-sign within 6 months. It 'makes sense', right? Most of us on here have believed the club and that Jesse will resign when the CBA is known. Tbh I think Jesse will sign before trade period starts (2 months). Do I have a source? No. Logically, it just 'makes sense' as the club needs to know what it can offer incoming trade players and current OOC players, to manage its salary cap. Anyone can make educated guesses! -
The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Lucifers Hero replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
My post was about your comment of 'managing expectations', and I said the club would have done that if they wanted it known. All GNF has done is throw a genade out there for the next 6 months without adding anything to what was already known. Just watch every media outlet and journo ask Melbourne people every other day about Jesse's contract status. Hardly the way the club would choose to 'manage expectations'. -
The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Lucifers Hero replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
If that was the case the Club would announce it, not leak it via a 3rd party and by an anonymous source on a fan forum! Why would the Club want to restart speculation and have negotiations take place under the media spotlight. Because that is what GNF has now done. Its like throwing fuel on a fire!! -
The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Lucifers Hero replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jesse said he wanted to wait for the CBA the details of which are known by Clubs and will be announced in next month. He, his manager and the club have always said he will stay. So for Jesse to 'confirm' that and restart negotiations now is no surprise and anyone could make that educated guess. And, contract negotiations started 12 months ago so both parties have known the ambit claims for a year now and it doesn't take 6 months to work out the finer details. It sounds like someone (your source, not you) is reading the tea leaves around the CBA announcement timing and hedging their bets by saying it will take 6 months. A claim by your source that an announcement by EOS would be a lot more convincing! Edit: Just read other posts. 'Abe' has asked about deal length and terms etc so some info on this would add some credibility that the source isn't just taking an 'educated' guess. -
The combined Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia Thread
Lucifers Hero replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
That is an copy of what I said in posts #433 and #439 above. The point is we do not currently have 5-6 players in the $700-$800k range like you claimed most clubs do, post #424. And most clubs would not have this pay structure because under the current salary cap they would be underpaying the rest of the team. -
I saw Ch9 ads saying Max will debut as a Footy Show panelist, on Thursday night. Not sure I can cope with TFS rubbish but might channel surf to see the Max sections.

Maybe. Don't have time to look for the news reports for each player. I recall Mahoney saying we were paying 100% of cap. A lot of senior players earning around $500 to $600k were using up a fair bit of it: Dunn, Garland, Jamar, Clark, Trengove as well as those I mention in my last post. Our sal cap has been poorly managed for a long time. Mahoney is doing a brilliant job bringing contracts into line with market worth. -

My recollection of talk at the time was around $600pa for him For N Jones the talk was length of contract and around $650 pa...he could be one that ended up on $700k with sole captain, bnf, marketing etc. When Hogan last renewed it was strongly said to be $500pa, bearing in mind that was before he had played a game. Jack W would have been on a good figure last contract when we had to keep him out of Malthouse's clutches but I am guessing he is one of the ones the club had to bring the 'contract in line with market worth'. Jack V not up there yet...next contract. Jack G would not have been up that high when signed on current contract as Captain. Gawn - see Jack V... We would expect contracts to have upward adjustment clauses for the forthcoming CBA but that doen't change the relativities... On a non-relevant to this thread note - if my research is ok it puts in perspective the contract figures being bandied about for Tom Mc and why we may be at a stalemate with his negotiations. -

That means the average for the rest of a team is about $200K. Unlikely, given the AFL average is $320k. Wager lost, I think Stuie!! I doubt we have any on 700-800k, yet. -
Who are the Dees chasing for 2017 and at what cost?
Lucifers Hero replied to junk's topic in Melbourne Demons
Unless, they go after Macca as senior coach! While Beveridge gets the credit most people could see that Macca laid all the ground work and recruited all their current top players. Macca deserves another go at senior level. However, Macca is the main reason I have some comfort that Goodwin can coach us to success so we need him to stay at least another year preferably for 2 or 3 more years. -
Maybe he is playing well for his own self respect...

Braysure, it sounds like he doesnt really want to come and is using us as a bargaining chip! Don't like it at all! Tell him to stay put! Like it less if DA is right about 2017 1st rnd. Can't imagine Mahoney, Taylor and Viney will let that happen, regardless of the mateship between Goodwin and Hibbered. -

Emma Q is usually spot on. Interesting that Rich gave up their 2016 rnd 2 draft last year. Looks expensive now that they are near bottom of the ladder. More so as Yarran hasn't played a game for them yet! If they give their 2016 1st rnd for Prestia they are in a world of pain with their rebuild. They will be lucky to get 2nd (pick 25+) or 3rd rnd picks for their players = Average players out, Average players in! Think they will be my tip for the 2017 wooden spoon! -
The club broke his heart when we demoted him from Co Captain The club broke his heart when we tried to trade him to the tigers The club broke his heart when we dropped him after 3 games this year. There are only so many times a heart can be broken, CBDees. I would actually like to see Jack take his future into his own hands and not wait to see if MFC is going to throw him some crumbs and get his manager out there promoting his cause. If he finds another team we should do the honourable thing and let him walk.

I heard several interviews where Roos said he and PJ had talked with Goodwin over the bye about the transition and 'he was ok about having to wait'. Did I mishear or you have heard something else? I would have thought Goodwin would jump at the opportunity to have a go!
-
I share your uneasy feelling, hemingway. Maybe it is intuition. Maybe it is things like: A few times posters have said players respect Roos but really 'love' Goodwin. The Goodwin 'Love' without the respect can quickly evaporate. As 'Swooper' alludes to Goodwin has big shoes to fill when it comes to Respect. Goodwin has openly talked about being really good mates with Melksham and Hibbered. I'm not sure having the coach's mates on a team is ideal for team harmony especially if a perception of 'favourites' evolves re contracts, team selections etc. That they are reported as getting 4 yr contracts when our homegrown (excellent) players get only 2 or 3 (except Jones/Viney) makes me wonder. People seem to think that Goodwin will be a Hinkley, Pyke or Beveridge and we will automatically climb the ladder. Goodwin is very inexperienced compared to those guys: 4 years at a dodgy club and 2 years with Roos'; never coached his own team at any level; has no runs on the board. Last but not least - Roos has not followed the Longmire handover pattern. Is it Roos' ego to make him coach out the season? Or does he have some doubts about Goodwin? Roos has given Goodwin no public profile whatsoever. A mystery? We have a very inexperienced team with limited on-field leadership and again will have a rookie coach. I look forward to 'Goodwin bringing his own strengths' as 'Swooper' notes. For our sake, I sure hope man management, team building and coaching is among them. But I can't shake that uneasy feeling. The one thing that gives me some comfort is that Macca is there.

A 'bloodbath' is for teams 2 to 8! Hawks are into finals prep mode - they rested Rioli and Puopolo last week (general soreness). Every chance they will rest one or two others this week. They just want to get to finals with no injures and everyone freshened up. Last year we debuted ANB and stretch against two of Sydney, Freo, Hawks but I can't remember which ones. I'm not suggesting we debut Weid or Huelett or anyone this week - just saying we should not fear it and the club has done similar before.
