  1. Just a pulse! That was a massive team 'heart that beats true for the red and the blue'!
  2. ROOS =HERO Anyone who has any doubt about what Roos has achieved at our club hope you can now believe. Not a Premiership but would have to go down as one of his most satisfying wins! Lets win a few more to see Roos off in style!!
  3. Kurt Heatherley: 193cm, 89kg, 21yo. Debutante. (HFC website) Sam Weideman: 196cm, 91kg, 19yo. Debutante. (MFC website) No way would Hawks 'rest' Frawley if Hogan was playing. Now we have a debutante vs debutante. Not sure if it reflects arrogance by Hawks thinking they have it won or indifference, not caring if they lose and its worth blooding a youngster. Either way, makes for an interesting match-up of Weideman and Heatherley especially as Sam towers over their experienced defenders and could take a few marks. Up to Watts and Pederson to keep Birchall and Gibson away from young Sam and let him go one-on-one with Heatherley! In my mind the Hawks changes even up the game a fair bit.
  4. In rnd 11 Vince, Tyson and Jones took turns getting in his face and were the 3 best midfielders on the day. And Jack Viney is in this time!! (out suspended/injured for last game) They know what to do and will get the job done!!
  5. Rich deserved to win. Had to beat Pies and umpires. After tough week showed real grit.
  6. Odds are that he will play as Roos said he would withdraw him today if he didn't train well or pull up ok. But that could have been doublespeak and he gets until 1pm tomorrow. For now, no news is good news!
  7. I didn't hear the discussion so can't comment on Gordon's comments, per se. I recall something about being able to appeal the WADA decision to CAS if it wasn't in accordance with the principles of local (Australian) laws...can't find the reference right now. BUT they did not appeal on that ground. “The appeal has been made on the ground that the CAS erred in determining that the WADA appeal should be conducted as a de novo hearing. That is, WADA should only have been allowed to appeal the unanimous decision of the AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal on grounds of either legal error or that it was grossly unreasonable..."http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/2016-02-11/afl-players-association-statement There doesn't seem to be much wriggle room there.
  8. An Emma Q article on Brayshaw and Petracca playing together http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/together-at-last-christian-petracca-and-angus-brayshaw-20160805-gqlu7z.html They will be a formidable duo! Glad they are in our side!
  9. Those quotes are extracts, with minor rewording from the article 'hardtack' quotes below!! I had forgotten that article 'hardtack'! A few days ago I gave GNF credit for 'playing the probabilities, with logic' to get his statements/predictions. It seems I gave him too much credit. To see his post is just a collection of extracts from that article is particularly disappointing. I feel he is having a lend of fellow Deelanders. Not nice, especially as he knows he has some standing on DL. When queried about the post he said: It is another 'riddle' like comment and just stringing people along. I guess he couldn't exactly own up to his source being a WA newspaper! (BTW the article was discussed on DL from July 21 so info not new).
  10. As Roos is into his last month I thought it may be worth recognising his contribution in a separate thread. If mods feel thread should be merged elsewhere, no prob. First contribution from our likely future captain, Jack Viney: “I think his greatest legacy at the football club will be the culture. Hopefully down the track when we are being successful, it will be Roosy that set the foundation for that...I will miss him a great deal. He has been terrific for our football club, coming in when the club wasn’t going so well and really setting some strong foundations.” http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/paul-roos-to-test-demons-young-talent-against-hawthorn/news-story/718fb452b3441a1c22724475d8151bdd I recall Jack saying in an interview recently saying that 'Roosy is the 'boss dog' said with the earnestness that left no doubt as to who is in charge and in a tone that had awe, respect and adoration. From Jack Watts recently: 'Roosy’s probably saved my career, to be honest...It’s his person skills and the way he actually invests in his players outside of football'. Methinks that along with the undoubted respect in which Roos is held there is also much love from the players. People may find fault with some Roos' decision, rate of improvement etc but he never lost sight of the end game: setting up our club for a successful future. I believe he has delivered that in spades. He (and PJ et al) has made MFC relevant again. I will be eternally grateful for restoring pride in my club again. Following on from Jack's words above when we are being successful, it will be Roosy that set the foundation for that, my dream vision is Barassi and Roos presenting the Premiership Cup to Jones and or Viney!
  11. http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/damien-hardwick-not-giving-up-on-richmond-as-he-looks-to-2017-season/news-story/e02c992e2d36b0c1dab6ff2487ecc929 You really have to wonder about this mob! They have 72,000 members, rolling in money, a great CEO and stable Board. They have actually won 7 games this year. Anyone would think they had not won any and about to get the wooden spoon! All I can say is they have a good chance of beating the Pies tonight and Saints in a few weeks if they get their act together a bit. So they will end up between 7 - 9 games but want to lynch all and sundry! Crazy!!
  12. Had a look at the team that fronted the Hawks in rnd 11: In we have Stretch, Brayshaw, Weideman. (Out Trengove, Dawes, Wagner). Hunt, Petracca and Oliver had only played a handful of games - now more adjusted to AFL footy They are significant improvements on last time we played Hawks. I like that we have some have some 'fresh' players as Vand, Oliver, Bugg and Weideman didn't go to Perth 2 weeks ago. An upset is on the cards!
  13. dee-luded is a very odd cat! Not sure you want to get to know him too well Currently in the slammer - has now been there for at least 4 months...don't know when Nasher will let him out.
  14. Garlett owes himself and us. It was his brain fades last time vs Hawks that cost us momentum (we probably still would have lost) and cost him his place in the team. Importantly, it was the first time real question marks about his performance were raised. A heap of goals would be good but just getting his touch and endeavour back would be a big plus for our forward line working well. A good game for redemption!
  15. Correct. Roos said he is being rested entirely: '...Dawesy definitely [needs a rest] with a six-day break, with his body the way it is at the moment...He came in, after having a weekend off and played really well the first game, but we’ve got to be mindful of that'. Not good if he needs a week or two rest every few weeks. If his body can't handle it that alone may force him to retire as it won't get any easier to front up every week as he gets older - 29 next year, not old but physical issues not good for a big guy.
  16. In: Bugg, Weideman, Oliver Out: Chris Dawes, Josh Wagner, Matt Jones Emg: Colin Garland, Cameron Pedersen, Matt Jones. So Pedo would come in if Hogan doesn't get up. All looks pretty good to me!
  17. I share that view of H. However, he suffered concussion while playing for the club. (The concussion may have triggered other issues, who knows). Overall if he cannot continue, I'm not sure he should forfeit the income from the final year of his contract. I think our club is equally principled and they would work out something that is fair.
  18. Well said hemingway and totally share your views. Undoubtedly, he has many strengths that he brings to the club/team. The parts underlined are those on which he has a bit of work to do, imo. He has some ?marks on his values in decision making which hopefully don't come back and bite him when it comes to earning respect. While he will have a honeymoon period early success is essential to keep the media wolves at bay and to feed the optimism Roos has sown. The club has done everything possible to 'set him up for success'. We just have to wait and let it unfold.
  19. Not sure what it all means, b. Still get the feeling Hibberd doesn't really want to come to the Dees and is using us as a bargainig chip to get what he wants from EFC. Really only want players at the Dees when they have the right motivation ie win a flag with us!
  20. Have no opinion of GNF or anyone. Simply saying someone is playing the probabilities and applying some logic ie: All involved have consistently said JH will stay and JH wants to wait for CBA. CBA now known to Clubs so reasonable to conclude JH willing to re- sign. JH wants to avoid last years Jan/Feb fiasco around his contract Therefore, reasonable to conclude JH will re-sign within 6 months. It 'makes sense', right? Most of us on here have believed the club and that Jesse will resign when the CBA is known. Tbh I think Jesse will sign before trade period starts (2 months). Do I have a source? No. Logically, it just 'makes sense' as the club needs to know what it can offer incoming trade players and current OOC players, to manage its salary cap. Anyone can make educated guesses!
  21. My post was about your comment of 'managing expectations', and I said the club would have done that if they wanted it known. All GNF has done is throw a genade out there for the next 6 months without adding anything to what was already known. Just watch every media outlet and journo ask Melbourne people every other day about Jesse's contract status. Hardly the way the club would choose to 'manage expectations'.
  22. If that was the case the Club would announce it, not leak it via a 3rd party and by an anonymous source on a fan forum! Why would the Club want to restart speculation and have negotiations take place under the media spotlight. Because that is what GNF has now done. Its like throwing fuel on a fire!!
  23. Jesse said he wanted to wait for the CBA the details of which are known by Clubs and will be announced in next month. He, his manager and the club have always said he will stay. So for Jesse to 'confirm' that and restart negotiations now is no surprise and anyone could make that educated guess. And, contract negotiations started 12 months ago so both parties have known the ambit claims for a year now and it doesn't take 6 months to work out the finer details. It sounds like someone (your source, not you) is reading the tea leaves around the CBA announcement timing and hedging their bets by saying it will take 6 months. A claim by your source that an announcement by EOS would be a lot more convincing! Edit: Just read other posts. 'Abe' has asked about deal length and terms etc so some info on this would add some credibility that the source isn't just taking an 'educated' guess.
