  1. That must be a joke - Pick 13 is earmarked for Gibbs. And, how could a club even consider #13 for ANB, a player with potential but can't break into the playing 22 on a regular basis. Our best chance of getting Harry Dear is if his Crows contract is not renewed and he becomes a DFA and chooses us. Listening to Mahoney's interview today, Dear isn't the type we are looking for.
  2. I think Newton's fate was sealed before we got Lewis but don't want to update info until these things are said by the club (Ditto Dawes, rookies etc) I was simply answering your question about pick 84 and the number of vacancies we may have.
  3. All those interpretations are correct. Re pick 84 - Newton's future is also in the balance and would can give us another list spot to fill - then we can use #84 at the draft... Another general comment: I am keeping the 2016 Contract thread upto date with all changes re demons. People should look at it before positing scenarios.
  4. Collingwood will not give up 47 +/- high picks for Dunn...they need all the draft points they can get for their father/sons The following comments don't relate to your posts stuie its for the people who put up all sorts of hypothetical pick trades. NOTE: draft points are a sliding scale and read this: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-10-19/indicative-2016-afl-draft-order ie #28 = 703 points # 47 = 316 points # 57 = 182 points # 59 = 158 points And, hopefully for the last time, a club (with some exceptions) cannot have more draft picks than vacant list spots!! Edit: we can use picks 102 and 120 to upgrade Wagner/Smith.
  5. I hear what everyone is saying about not going to the draft this year which on face value is a fair argument. Getting more young players wasn't why I feel our remaining picks don't give us much to work with. All along, I've thought our biggest need and what I was really hoping for is a backup for Max in this trade period who is ready to play in 2017. I was not expecting using #29 at the draft to deliver this. My remaining hope for a ruck/forward type is someone who becomes a DFA that we can pick up for zip. Will be quite disappointed if we go into 2017 without a real Max backup (and not just Watts or Pedersen who ruck while Max is resting)!
  6. Hibberd + #59 for #29 and #68 As it stands our picks are 57, 59, 84, 102, 120 Can't say that is a good outcome. ok for upgrading rookies but not much else
  7. True. But, our 2016 #26 was pushed out to #29 because of AFL allocated picks. Not many FA's to command similar picks in 2017 or a pp, so if we are just inside the 8 our 2017 2nd rnd pick will still be around pick #29. Just outside the 8 it is even better. MFC have worked very hard to keep # 29 presumably for a reason (other than playing hardball) so I hope they don't give up now. EFC must trade Hibberd out as they do not have the salary cap and next year he will be out of contract so their bargaining power then goes down a bit.
  8. True, I didn't mention them as my mind the swap of 2nd round picks more or less net out and they don't really help their stock of young top end talent, to get their rebuild underway, properly!! Good pick up DA! I did a bit more checking and Yes, Richmond made some trades and ended up with pick #15 with which they selected Daniel Rioli, who has good potential. Their young talent going forward still looks pretty thin, more so if they give up pick 6 this year.
  9. Rich could back themselves and offer their 2017 1st pick and work to finish (dare I say it, at least 9th) ie pick 9-11. They then get a good young player this year to start refreshing their list; there recent 1st round efforts have been poor: 2015: pick 11 traded for Yarran who hasn't played a game for them. 2014: pick 12 selected Corey Ellis, yet to find his feet 2013: pick 12 selected Ben Lennon, a good player wallowing in the 2's who they have tried to trade out 2012: pick 9 selected Nick Vlastuin, sort of getting there. 2016: pick 6 (to be) traded for Prestia who will probably be a very good player them. If I was a supporter I'd be worried about their top end talent under 23; they have none! That will come back to bite them! 1.5 trading days to go and barely a change to their list. So same coach, almost the same list - maybe they have accepted they will be bottom 4 next year!!
  10. Table updated to reflect the recruitment of Lewis Hibberd and McKenna and the trade out of Dunn. We started (post AFL picks) with these picks: 29, 48, 66, 84,102 and 120. Effecively the net cost of all our new recruits is round 2 pick # 29 and a small change in later round picks. Amazing result for us! I guess we should prepare for some more delistings as the first list lodgement is coming up.
  11. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/paul-roos-says-melbournes-recruitment-of-jordan-lewis-brings-vital-experience-leadership/news-story/e9dd96d503ad37947e27b12f197a0db9 Roos, commenting from sunny Hawaii, thinks it is a great get for the Demons and will accelerate our charge for the finals. He can't believe Hawks let Mitchell and Lewis go in the same year. He went on to say: “They’re a great club Hawthorn, we have got the greatest respect for them, but to lose Mitchell for pick No.88, there’s got to be something more to it that we don’t know that’s going in.” ...a not too oblique reference to there being something else in the background of the trade...interesting from Roos as he never gives that sort of comment...maybe the Hawaii sun has got to him a little bit... Anyway, good to see him taking an interest.
  12. Some interesting comments on some high profile yet to be finished deals: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-trades-2016-tigers-poised-to-land-dion-prestia-20161018-gs51ll.html "Negotiations between the Hawks and Suns have been tense throughout the trade period, with Hawthorn now insisting pick 10 is their final offer for O'Meara. The clubs could go into mediation on Wednesday in an effort to break the deadlock". Under the deal, Richmond would give the Suns their first pick, as well a future second-round pick...The Tigers would gain Prestia as well as a second-round selection this year, strengthening their position in the coming draft. So Richmond will end up parting with pick #6!! I really like that GCS are playing hardball and not get unders for their elite players. On a smaller scale we did the same with Lewis and seemingly with Hibberd. Its good that the so called 'power clubs' are not getting away with using their might to crap on smaller clubs.
  13. Apologies if this has been posted: Bugg's cheeky tweet to Jordan (a reference to us beating the Hawks late in the season!): Tomas Bugg Verified account ‏@tommybugg If you can't beat them, join them hey @JordanLewisO3 Welcome!
  14. Will be interesting to see how Collingwood get this done. This article shows the will have a deficit of points for their two father/sons, even after they get a late pick for Cloke. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-10-18/fatherson-picks-could-put-pies-into-draft-points-deficit I do recall they are trading Witts out so they might get a pick with some draft points there. I bet Collingwood will try and do a player swap. I would prefer a pick but if we can move Dunn on this year that will be a good thing all round. So we may have to settle for a player who will spend the year at Casey which is where Dunn would be anyway. We just get some salary cap relief. I guess we could always take Witts for Dunn...a good back up for Max!
  15. As others have mentioned the level of on-field leadership he brings is immense. Two aspects of this I am looking forward to the most are: - his ability to read the play, the change of momentum and how to harness that before to much damage is done. That has been the biggest weakness of our leadership team. By the time we work out what to do 3-5 quick goals are scored and the damage is done. Lewis I think will fix this. - teach Jack Viney the art of captaincy. Jack said at EOS he needed to improve his on-field his decision making to be a better leader. He was mentored by Lewis in his TAC years and Lewis can now school Jack in this regard (of course in addition to setting standards, aggressive play etc etc. It is just sooooooooooo good to have an on-field General, no offence to Jones and et al.
  16. Last week: Hodge to Mitchell: so mate you went for pick 88! This week: Mitchell to Hodge: better than Lewis - he went for peanuts! And, you will go for...?
  17. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-trades-2016-hawks-build-war-chest-as-jordan-lewis-trade-looms-20161017-gs4bd6.html "...Melbourne's original offer for Lewis last week was for pick 66. Hawthorn then said they wanted to keep the contracted player prompting the Demons to guarantee a third year and slightly more money in the contract offer to Lewis, something Hawthorn believes should be better reflected in the trade terms. Great gamesmanship by Hawks - force us to up our bid to Lewis then use that to claim a higher pick! Like Essendon, another arrogant club with a sense of entitlement. Regardless of what Lewis is worth I hope we don't fall for their antics! .
  18. Height isn't the only thing: Richards is 23 yo and ready to go, Hulett isn't.
  19. Xavier Richards has just requested a trade but hasn't said where to, yet!! @ 195cm could he be our forward ruck backup? Could this be the reason the Hibberd deal is being held up and why we want to keep pick 29? No idea, just hypothesising and to give us someone other than Lewis and Rockcliff to talk about.
  20. Awesome if true - we stared down Essendon down! Dodoro blinked first, for a change! tbh I wouldn't care whether it was year or next year 2nd rnd but its good to not let them 'win'!!
  21. Sounds spot on dc - Salem's family own a restaurant or two so fair to say he has 'spread butter' at some stage!
  22. Sorry, i was going from (poor) memory and paraphrasing a little. I take it from your last line the Rockliff rumour may have some traction. I share your cautious excitement
  23. You are being modest dd. A done deal perhaps but one no-one knew about it. I recall you 'announced' it the day after the grand final at which time everyone else was still guessing if and when. Lewis seems to be close to that 100% mark despite the ongoing Hawks shenanigans! Fingers crossed.
  24. I'm not usually one for coarse language but the hawks can put their PR rubbish up where the sun don't shine!!!
  25. demondame, you called the Hogan re-signing and contract announcement timing perfectly - one of the few to do so. Do you have any insight into Rockliff or Hbberd status? Cheers
