Will Nathan Jones get a farewell game?
Lucifers Hero replied to Redbeard's topic in Melbourne Demons
Max: “There’s no sugarcoating this. He is the 24th player currently right now. Obviously the 23rd [medical sub] on the weekend was Jimmy Jordon, and the 22 that played. [Jones] is probably sitting 24, I mean [Jake] Melksham, Michael Hibberd and Jayden Hunt are all there as well, so there’s probably four guys that are trying to get into this team, and Goody’s [coach Simon Goodwin is] going to have a long discussion,” Gawn said. “We were a team that won on the weekend by 40 points in a qualifying final with no injuries. It’s a massive call to make a change. Will Nathan be able to stand up in a hot prelim final more than James Jordon if called on as sub? James Jordon has put in a great body of work, 23 weeks, that’s been a great body of work that definitely deserves his chance, and Jake Melksham did a great job...four weeks ago on Jeremy McGovern. “I don’t envy what Goody’s got to do, but there’s no sugar on this situation. There [are] five guys fighting for a spot in this side... Not a ringing endorsement from the captain. Don't like Jones' chances. -
Yep. Lions burnt twice. Surprised they took the risk. Clubs should have a 'golden handshake' type clause for expensive interstate player to be paid at the end of the contract. I suspect the AFLPA would kick up a fuss.

Maybe it won't all go Port's way: "Fantasia and fellow goalsneak Robbie Gray were placed on light duties at Alberton Oval ahead of Port's preliminary final against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night. The pair didn't join Port's main group, instead doing skills work on the side lines". Red herrings or genuine issues?

Purple was quite scathing; called him a manipulator. Ouch!

Neale is getting a bit of heat in the media. Perhaps, rightly so. Not only for wanting out but for reportedly not giving the club an inkling of his thinking at some stage. And worse he didn't contact the club on Sunday night when the news broke in Perth. Waited until the club called a meeting yesterday. Completely blindsided them. Lack of respect for his club and what it has helped him achieve. Doubt he would have a Brownlow if he had stayed at Freo. Not to mention that (reportedly) 70% of his 5 year contract has already been paid in the first 3 years.

Are they authors? -
Beware. At least one of those websites is an on-seller of tickets. Victoria has laws against on-selling of GF tickets but not all states do. The 'Tell': I will be barracking for whoever sells me the barcodes

Clue please? -
Three. Tassie, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide for the PF.. Its weird that they didn't fly from Bris straight to Adel rather than to Perth first. I read somewhere it was to bank some quarantine days in Perth'. I would have thought maximising chances of winning the PF in Adelaide would have been their first priority. Then worry about Perth quarantine if they win the PF. Sounds like early counting of chickens to me. Hope they run into the karma bus!

I just can't see Geelong winning in the middle. Selwood has been poor for a while; rated one of the worst vs GWS. Parfitt out. Connors out (breathe easy Clayton), Duncan just getting some match practice, Dangerfield has broken fingers. Stanley needs to back up a good game last week which was against a battered Mumford. They are patching up their midfield on the run with new additions each week. Stanley, Danger and Selwood had a great 20 minutes vs us in round 23. Cameos really. We will need most of Viney, Gawn, Oliver, Langford, Petracca and Brayshaw to have poor games to lose the mid-field battle. Just. Won't. Happen.

Maybe not Crows supporters. They would savour Port being beaten in a GF - with as big a margin as possible.

Are Freo likely to take two picks around the #15 - #18 mark? Which become 16 -20 after F/S and Academy picks. Draft points calcs aside, Freo would probably prefer Carlton's pick 6 (that will become 8) especially as they need to pay for Neale. Brisbane already have picks 14 and our 2021 1st (15 - 18). They will relish pick 6 and probably demand it. Freo drove a very hard bargain for Neale to Brisbane and while they may not get the same value back they are likely to extract fair value. I like your reasoning as a basis for a trade but not sure Freo will take two very low 1st rounders. I'm guessing any deal for Cerra needs to help Freo get Neale.

Goodwin was on AFL 360 last night. He repeated earlier comments that the 'veterans' Melksham, Hibberd and Jones were working really hard and were ready, if needed. Then he talked about keeping a stable team at this time of the year and not making changes (paraphrasing). He didn't mention AVB and JJ but they would also be in contention, if needed. Hunt is also in the running to come back. From the Richardson SEN interview it sounded like Hunt would be back as his speed really helps us or words to that effect, whcih then puts Smith/Bowey in the mix. I had no sense that Jones would be 1st or 2nd in line should injuries hit. Maybe further down the order going on who has been selected ahead of him in recent times. -
Except for close wins vs Freo and the Dogs (Port kicked themselves out of an easy win), Port have been cruising for months. So if they cruise over the dogs this week plus the easy QF win and 2 byes isn't ideal GF preparation.. They could go into the GF undertone in terms of high pressure football and scoreboard pressure.. If we have a solid hit out and beat the Cats (but it not go down to the wire so I don't become a nervous wreck) we go into the GF a bit more match hardened. We were challenged more than Port at the end of the season. Being a bit more match hardened may not be a big thing but every little bit counts in a GF. So their cruising may hinder them in a GF vs us (if that happens). Port would be desperately praying for a Geelong win.

I've now received the email,. My earlier post isn't relevant given that each bar code holder can buy 8 tickets.
-
I'm guessing there are two versions: 1) for interstate members who may want to use their ticket rights and 2) one for Victorians like @Cassiewwho can't go and can transfer their rights. Edit: Just saw your latest post: In 2018 I also gave bar codes to other fans and never had any issues..

What they are saying at Moorabool Street
Lucifers Hero replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was surprised how civil they were to their own and to the opps. Some posters on DL go in fairly hard on some of our players. -
I'm guessing it would be to do with covid tracking. And if the tickets are only on electronic/mobile phones it pays for the person buying the ticket to use their own info.
-
I've yet to receive the email but in talking with the club they mentioned the tickets need to be bought in the name of the person attending not in the name of the member. Could folks check their email to see if there is any info on this. Thanks.

Its still early in the week - they haven't even opened a PF thread. These comments are from the bf, SF Review thread. Mitch Cleary is spot on. Sav has to play against the Demons. They have two elite defenders who help each other out more than than other defensive duo in the comp. Sav’s presence alone, let alone his aerial ability, will give May and Lever plenty to think about and give Hawkins and Cameron the relative freedom they had last night. ... Gotta get it down there first. Selwood hasn’t had a sniff of it in finals. Parfitt is out . Danger has been average in finals . No O’Connor not in to tag. Oliver torched us last time and they have the best ruckman. We've been crappy starters for a while now. Haven't kicked 3 goals in a first quarter since Rd 19 vs Richmond (6 games ago). Would love to actually put a few on the scoreboard early and put the other team under pressure instead of a dour slog or being under pressure ourselves. Danger was absolutely smashing centre bounces when GWS were coming big time at us Pretty unconvincing. Dees will probably maul us. I think we will be 4 goals down at quarter time. We are still mentally fragile. Tuohy, henry and stanley great. Holmes looks very promising, but needs to clean up in front of goal. Wouldn't it be great though if Higgins came good and played a couple of blinders in the finals. Maybe he has been foxing all year, just to come out cherry ripe for the big stage ... ( cue end of dream sequence music, screen goes wobbly as we wake up). Midfield: Stanley, Duncan, Selwood, Dangerfield, Guthrie V Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw. Danger the only winner out of those. And he's got a stuffed hand or finger or something. ... Oliver is the standout, Fit Danger/Traca same level, I'd put Current Selwood a tad over Viney, Guthrie and Duncan both a class above Brayshaw. Gawn a class above Stanley ... Yeah about that H&A. In a final id have Bradshaw and Viney over Guthrie in Duncan. Just more finals body's and style. ... ...Not sure whether Bradshaw wants to come out of retirement.. ... Im hoping the dee's selectors are reading the forum and I confuse them enough to cause chaos come game day. I haven't liked Kolo for years glad people are coming with me on this Just one last thing, for the earlier posts stating Dalhouse can come back in and play as an inside mid, the mental institutions are still open during lock down so you are able to check in. His season has been well below average as a forward, given far too many chances and has zero capacity to play as an inside mid. Just stop it. All of you. All of you. Melbourne aren't that good. Their forward line is hardly scary apart from Pickett - smalls trouble us - and we have a stronger midfield. I don't think Gawn scares Stanley either. It's their defence that gets the job done and makes the rest of their team appear better then they are. A defensive forward on Salem and make Lever and May accountable. Sav, Hawkins, Cameron and Rohan could trouble them with the right delivery. ... That's the key - high bombs like we saw against Port won't get the job done. We played with better method and thought on Friday night - need to do the same against Melbourne.

Really? Sooooooooooo long ago. Easily trumped by the Brayshaw, Jetta, Pickett, Jackson, Rivers, Farmer clans and communities. As an aside, Gus said in the GnG podcast that the WA government gave his mum an exemption to enter the state but not his dad both applications were on compassionate grounds. It is odd as the Brayshaw name is as close to sporting royalty as there is in WA.

Melbourne Football Club Supporter Syndrome. Translated as: always expect the worst.; Murphy's law says..., the sky is falling, a cloud in every silver lining, Norm Smith's curse, etc.
