Welcome to Demonland: Jacob Van Rooyen
Fair call. Perhaps 'project' wasn't the right word. More that he was taken knowing he would take time to develop. Having said that he hasn't developed at the rate most of us would like but the club still has faith. I reckon he might still get there; not the star KPF we would hope for from a pick 9 but a very good contributor to our fwd line. .

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
Ha, ha: when on a good thing, stick to it I say! ๐๐ The best part of any call of the third qtr bliz is that the vision never changes. A joy to watch. ...I'm a big fan of the Old and New Masters but favourites are the late 19th c and 20th c Impressionists.

Welcome to Demonland: Jacob Van Rooyen
I remember Taylor saying that Sam was taken as a project. At the time we had Watts and Hogan. No one could have foreseen that the latter two would be gone within a few years. Not saying Sam will make it but the club had good reasons for taking him at the time. Also, at the time the club had filled its quota of on-ballers: Petracca, Brayshaw, Salem, Tyson, Oliver, ANB, Harmes, Hunt, Stretch (with Viney and Jones already at the club) and we were ready to start taking tall players to develop. So Sam was it.

2021 Player Reviews #29 Jayden Hunt
No surprise that Hunt and Langdon are in the top 5. Their run and carry down the wing is a joy to watch. Quite a few posters regularly pot Salem for being slow - hope that stat quietens them.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
Yes we do and plenty left over for Taj, depending on where he is selected..

The Melbourne Cup
Thanks, Macca. I was thinking of the replica that is presented to the winning side. But I also like the idea of the original (at the other MCC) being encased for protection. I believe it is now in their museum.

The Melbourne Cup
It needn't be either/or. So many different types of trophies or 'mounts' to stylishly enclose/display the urn. I digress. I backed Verry Elleegant, od. The Cup is the only time I bet as I know nothing about racing, so that I have a horse or two to barrack for. I always choose horses whose jockey wears predominately read and blue colours. As a result, I have a collect nearly every year. I chuckled last night when I saw this thread. Like you I thought the jockey name made it a 'must have' bet.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
Simple: it is easiest to relax on the couch and watch the game on Foxtel and mute it when I know I won't like what is happening (which usually results in fast forwarding from qtr time to the 15 minute mark of the 3rd qtr) and I'm mesmerised all over again. The vision never lets me down. But when I know that there is a better commentary of that last minute, I'll happily go and listen/watch, again...

The Melbourne Cup
The first time I saw The Ashes 'Trophy' I thought it was a joke. Perhaps they can create a bigger 'trophy' worthy of that historical rivalry by encasing the little urn with The Ashes within it. It will still be The Ashes.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
I haven't watched or listened to every single different broadcast so a curiosity question: Is there a better description of those 4 goals that encapsulate that moment so succinctly?

Merch/Memorabilia
Wanted to report back to DL the outcome. I received my shipped order today with all the items that had the messages highlighted above included ๐๐๐. While I haven't heard back from the club to clarify the messages, my conclusion is that if I wanted to add some to my original order they are no longer available to re-order. Don't hold me to that but it makes sense of the messages. Very happy.

Merch/Memorabilia
I just received some of my mfc order and noticed a lot of things: scarf, mouse pad, stubbie holders, had the following on them: MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB 21.14 140 DEF WESTERN BULLDOGS 10.6 66 To roughly that scale and the final score very prominent. Not sure if it is typical of GF memorabilia but I reckon it is a bit cheeky displaying the scores! Think what fun it will be using a stubbie holder with whatever drinks one fancies, when there are doggie supporters around! Not to mention the smile on my face every time I use my mouse which is constant!

The problem was that clubs were not putting development into the NGA players. They just happen to live in a club's arbitrary zone. I can think of at least 6-8 first round picks (a few top 10) claimed by clubs in recent years. NGA suffered from the outset in that they had a very loose definition of an 'NGA'. And, it lacked rules/criteria around level of development a club must do to have the right to match a bid. The AFL chose a 'quick fix' (ie can't match in first 20/40).which it isn't. From next year if a club can't match until >40 ie round 3 the whole concept of NGA will be meaningless. As you say why would a club bother. That aside I agree if a club has put a bit of development effort into a player and they are not allowed to match then some compensation should be provided, at least in these transition years.

NGA nominations closed yesterday. Anyone know if we nominated NGA in case he gets past pick 20? Unlikely, but who knows.

POSTGAME: GRAND FINAL vs Western Bulldogs
western-bulldogs-list-out-of-contract-players Over half their GF team is OOC next year including some of their finest: Zaine Cordy Bailey Dale Caleb Daniel Josh Dunkley Tim English Mitch Hannan Jason Johannisen Jackson Macrae Alex Keath Stefan Martin Josh Schache Bailey Smith Can they keep the best 6 or 7 happy... ? Just as well they didn't win the premiership or they would have a bigger sal cap problem!!!

NGA nominations closed yesterday. Anyone know if we nominated him for the right to match a bid? If we nominated him we can opt not to match or if he gets through the draft take him our very last pick or in as a B rookie?

In case folks don't know, the best way to check the status of an mfc order is to login to your account on the Demon Shop webpage. iirc the club sent a link at the time of confirming the order. That is how I learnt of the items that weren't shipped/not available. As an aside I had a look at the AFL Shop website and it has in stock the items mfc tell me aren't available including the grey Premiers t-shirt which my account says 'no longer for sale'. Gives me a little optimism that mfc may still have some stock.

Before Port he was at Brisbane... Has been at three clubs at 29 years old. Now paid out the last 2 years of what was said to be a lucrative contract. Rarely shown team first attributes. Not our type! Pass.

All up my order was also several hundred dollars and placed on GF night so will be upset if it turns out orders received later were filled first. But will wait and see what the clarification is before I get too excited. I saw your post about Amazon so looked at their website. They have some of the items omitted from my order saying they are in stock, albeit some at low levels and delivery expected 3rd/4th week of November. I'm trying hard not to make assumptions about stock allocation and order fulfilment processes... Am ๐ this ends well...๐ค

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Some more info: This is what my account says for the various items not shipped: This product cannot be reordered because it's out of stock. OR Unfortunately this product is no longer for sale so it cannot be reordered. The items not shipped weren't on 'pre-order' when I placed the order. I figure that at some stage I might get the items with the first message but not those with the second message and unfortunately the latter includes the grey 'Premiers' t-shirt. I've emailed the Demon Shop to clarify those messages but I know they are under the pump so will patiently await their reply. The shipment email said: No tracking numbers are assigned to your order yet. I'm guessing this is up to Aust Post to issue when it gets to their parcel centre. Not too fussed about this as they are also really under the pump. I'm sure what has been shipped will arrive in due course. Refund wasn't mentioned for the unshipped items.
