The Official Last Brainteaser of 2021
Lucifers Hero replied to Mazer Rackham's topic in Melbourne Demons
Have been away since Wednesday so tbh I haven't tried to solve them. I was surprised to open this thread this morning and not see the answers posted so now I'm just curious. Not sure why the lads are just dragging it out... -
The Official Last Brainteaser of 2021

@Mazer Rackhamand @La Dee-vina Comediacan we have the answers please? -
As i intimated in my post above, Beveridge would have been filthy on the Lever selection ruse which he learnt only one hour before the game. Then they got done over in the first qtr, done over in the last and shown up on a big stage again. The ABC reported that he could be heard being emotional from outside the box during the game. All up, it is no surprise he went into the press conf all snarly and then completely lost the plot. I guess his press conf was a deflection of their poor game that went to far. But losing control of one's emotions like that is not good. And he made damn sure he got no questions on the game by walking out. It must have received some internal discussion as his CEO said: “We don’t have any doubts about him being in the right frame of mind to coach the team on an ongoing basis.” And the backdrop for his apology video had no sponsor logos which says a lot about where their sponsors are at. On a serious note he could take a leaf from Goodwin's book 12-15 months ago: Treat everything in the media (good and bad) as Fugazzi. Acknowledge one's anxieties and weaknesses. Gain perspective Seek the right help. Stay calm I hope he is ok. Would hate to see him go down the path of Rhys Shaw who unravelled before our eyes.

My take on the game: Rapt to see Bowey get his first goal. Libba played in defence a lot of the game, guarded by Gus so made our job of mananging him in the middle a lot easier. He looked very sulky. They didn't miss him in the middle as they won the clearances hands down. But he did next to nothing in defence. Max and to a lesser extent Jackson tapped far too many balls straight to Bulldog mids. If Oliver and Gawn continue to give up so many frees it will hurt their Brownlow chances as umps will most probably look at them unfavourably when considering the 'fairest' part of the award for voting. Last year our defence target was to not give up more than 60pts. We missed that by a smallish margin; a phenomenal effort with a backline that has rarely, if ever, played all together. Goodwin said that Lever's injury happened on Sunday. Yet they named him on Tuesday night and withdrew him one hour before the game. I can imagine this sent Beveridge ballistic as they would have put a lot of planning into how to neutralise Lever. Wasted effort requiring some fleet of foot changes. They failed miserably to take advantage of his absence. Gus was really good as a rebounding defender but hope he goes back to the wing. An aspect of Kozzie's work which is overlooked is how he mows down a player about to tackle his teammate going for the ball. He did it to Dunkley in the GF allowing Petracca to get that well-timed goal. This week he did it again when a bulldog (not sure the player) was about to tackle Langdon. The result: Langdon goaled. This work that Kozzie does probably is counted only in the 1% stats but gee it is so much more valuable. I really like that at the breaks the music was toned down. Daisy did another great job with her comments. I like the 'behind the goals vision' for some of the goals. Great way to start the year.

GAMEDAY: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs
Lucifers Hero replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
If the bulldogs come out all aggro they will most likely crash and bash into Max ala Port a few years ago, then try to smash Oliver and maybe Salem. They have little chance of belting Petracca, most players can't even pull off a tackle. Even Fritsch might get a serve. Not sure who their really aggro players are, maybe Libba, Hunter and Martin. Our players will be ready. I just hope the umpires don't go easy on the bulldogs throwing, ducking and flicking and have got over making an example of us with the new 50m rules. Can't find who the umpires are. Hope it isn't the guy who felt slighted by Tomlinson and paid a 50. Gavine, I think. -
Or our resting ruckman sticks to him whether he is on or off the field. Lots of options :-)

“Sound the Alarm” The Goody Mic'd Up Documentary
Lucifers Hero replied to Dee Zephyr's topic in Melbourne Demons
I suspect WB supporters would want the same. I feel for them listening to part 3 and 4 and all they got was Goodwin and Dees except the 10 seconds when Beveridge threw in the towel. They could be forgiven for wondering if their coach went missing in more ways than one. -
LOL. I wanted to 'Like' this 10 times!'

6.35. With a 70,000+ crowd it could take a while to get in especially as this is the first time most will have used digital entry and/or haven't checked their mfc app to see if they are (correctly) set up. And they will be checking the vax certificates. So allow lots of time.
-
I just noticed the emergencies and saw Dunstan who hasn't played any practice games. So maybe Tomlinson becomes the sub so he might a bit of game time.
-
But we don't know how he pulled up from that much game time.

The Official Last Brainteaser of 2021

Crikey. Mazer. That is three quizzes!! May need to pass on this lot. I can't concentrate - too excited! -
Maybe a deliberate leak, mind games and all that. If so it means nought to Goodwin and co. They run their own race.
-
I suspect Tomlinson is out because they don't think his knee is ready for a full on 120 minutes of football. As it is, he has made an amazing comeback from an ACL in 8 months whereas it is usually 10-12 months. Edit: @Roost it farhas correctly posted it is 10 months since he did his ACL. Suspect they don't want to take any chances with it.

“Sound the Alarm” The Goody Mic'd Up Documentary
Lucifers Hero replied to Dee Zephyr's topic in Melbourne Demons
I get that. But not sure why they didn't show the box up to Bontepelli's goal in the third when they were19 points up. What they did show of Beveridge was generally motivational stuff. Whereas with Goodwin we got a bit of insight into tactics. He used codes like 'contest line, ready'! X line, ready (I didn't catch his words), its full defence time (or something like that). I can guess what he meant but I can imagine that in the player's minds each translated to particular structures and roles. Could have just been the editing but I was struck by the difference in coaching styles. -

What a difference coaching from the bench rather from inside the box. Feedback, praise and instructions were immediate. Naturally, most of the focus was on the winning coach but Beveridge didn't feature at all in part 3 (after the address) and in part 4 only for a few seconds when he decided it was over. Would have liked to have heard what was happening in the bulldogs box in the second half. -

So when can we post comments 🤔 -
Goodwin mentioned Lever and Kozzie will play (phew). There must have been some doubt for the reporter to ask the question.
-
Haven't seen a program, per se but someone (on AFL 360 or OTC) said flag unfurling @ 6.35. Goodwin (AFL 360) said players not on field. Then game proceedings as usual for a start time of 7.10 pm.
-
On AFL 360 Goodwin said the players won't be on the ground when the flag is unfurled as it doesn't fit into pre-game prep timelines. Is that typical? As he said it is for the fans so I'm happy.

Good to see Jesse confront and deal with his inner demons: how-speaking-up-helped-giants-star-clear-his-head Will always have a soft spot for him. Hope he has a good year and builds his confidence. 'Sliding doors' has prevented him playing finals when his team has, so hope he gets that chance with GWS.
-
Thanks for the info. As long as our 'Generals' (May, Salem and Lever) are fully fit (they all missed one practice game) I'm pretty confident our back line won't miss a beat. Bowey is still in. Tomlinson is a strong addition and Smith/Hunt can be the role players. I just hope we don't put Gus down back like against the Carlton game.

AFL Experts Predictions for the 2022 Season
Lucifers Hero replied to Sydney_Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bowey? -
Agreed. He dropped his head a few times when he tried to chase during our late 3 qtr blitz. What is being reported of the Bulldogs looks like a flat team. Not sure if they are foxing and will come out like a tornado or are not physically or mentally ready. They have a few key players out injured, some underdone, Hunter's form, Smith troubles with police in Queensland. Not an ideal off-season. They will build into the season but tomorrow night will be telling.
