Well whether or not you think they did the right thing is a whole other argument (which I agree with), but I’m more suggesting Geelong got what they wanted, and got very lucky to get it, and the Eagles made a list destroying decision.

They turned a pick in the mid 20’s into the 2 best years of Kelly’s career, then traded him out at his most valuable which gave them the points to get Cameron. If Kelly wasn’t so highly rated at the time they’d never get Cameron. If Kelly was traded today they’d not get those points.

Cameron ends up at Geelong because of Tim Kelly. That trade has killed The Eagles and blessed Geelong.

That’s a great point. JJ in particular suffered a fair few set backs. It doesn’t matter how you get there, just that you are ready when you do. Pick 22 in the draft suggests he’s got what it takes.

The revenue in video advertising is considerably better, and the content itself can stretch across to different channels more effectively - specifically those aimed at growing the game. It’s a good point though. It’s not enough to just be a former player, you have to be able to present the information with passion and interest.

I genuinely think May is our most important player - because of the risks he allows us to take at stoppages to blow a game open. I also love that he’s filthy on literally every goal that gets scored against us. We could be 80 points up with 2 minutes to play and he’ll give Hunty or Riv a spray if he doesn’t think they were in the best spot to stop the goal. You’d love/hate playing with him.

I commented after the Hawthorn game how annoying some Melbourne supporters had become at the ground. If it wasn’t ‘perfect’ they got upset. On the weekend it was eerily quite after halftime because we really didn’t fire a shot. I honestly think if we kicked the first goal of the last quarter it would have brought the crowd into it. Instead there was nothing to cheer. We got smashed all over the ground, and nobody stood up and tried to change momentum. Had Viney or Pickett ruffled some feathers the crowd would have brought in. The players looked so flat - so the supporters became really quite. I don’t think that will happen again this year. I think if a team is coming at us Jack, Koz and Harmesy will scrap. Plenty of learnings there. Bring the crowd into the game - especially at home.

I was speaking to a well known author who wrote a book with Gawny last year, and he also wrote the Tigers premiership books. He was saying the expectations on the players time is really intense, and it shifts and changes every week depending on game times. I imagine it’s very difficult to do anything too structured that you can’t control during the season.
