  1. Totally agree Red. they are difficult decisions that are best made by those with the skill, ability and knowledge or are empowered to make an informed decision. A bit of transparency would be desirable to justify any decision though. Even a frank admission that it was just a personal opinion that may have not been the best is better than nothing, especially when accompanied with an honest, and i have learnt from this. No one is perfect and even though learnings are eternal some make the same mistake over and over hoping that something else in the situation will cause a different outcome. I guess the gambling industry is fuelled by this action.

like Newton but really dont have any idea although we had a couple of kids who did same. It was seen as an unusual practice One was called Hungry but mainly coz that was the way he played sports, his name was Kevin so he later got called Bartlett on the footy field. Cant remember the name of the other kid who was also a little weird. Probably went on to head to a major corporate and is now well retired on the gold coast.
  3. You are right chaos exists. It identifying the patterns within that is the secret, thats what coaches and teams are struggling with to cope. my suggestion is rather bthan reactive we become proactive. Ive played plenty of team sports, watched more, and constantly see the unexpected (chaotic) act that often turns a game. The straight forward and uncomplicated plan is the standard to establish order. I play squash and line and length (like in tennis ) is the standard approach. I played above my ability by adding the tennis volley into the ordered squash game that was the standard of the Geoff Hunt era. Now the short rally is the norm as players attempt to disrupt the order. Its only chaos and confusion if you are not aware of it. There are patterns in the chaos. But your right its just another variable to consider., perhaps we just need to concentrate on kicking straight.

Tennis shaping up as a good test for the demon. Hope we have him decked out in the red and blue and that he doesnt make a straight sets exit. unlikely as he is the best example of competitiveness since Leighton.
  5. not sure with the kozzie use. He is a significant feature of the forward line, creates space when attacking, closes space as defensive forward.. Id even be happy with him flying for the speccie in a structure that included that role being supported by the other mids around him. i Reckon weve got the list and can win flags. Go Dees
  6. I've proposed a total list concept for many years and I have also suggested a new term Churn for rotating players . i am now proposing Churn as a total team concept. We use as many players as possible all year, resting and rotating players mids forward and defence groups for packages of games dependent on opposition match up and player loading, fitness etc. This keeps the total squad at match readiness and cover for unexpected issues Injuries, suspension, etc. each group playing in the match then rotates through the geographic position (zone) replacing a player who moves out of their initial zone. All players will know the requirement of each position and will know the abilities and requirements of the person who they have replaced and will therefor provide a consistent system in what appears a chaotic movement. It is in fact the Chaos theory in practice. obviously ensuring incorrect match ups dont happen requires constant movement. Chaos theory would indicate repetitions occur in 5.3 sequences so coaching statisticians can predict and counter anomalies. A strange attractor would also be identified and utilised as required. im watching the tennis and it seems the pattern is emerging for Germany again. Ill be interested to see how Poland can counter it. At 6/1 down they should miss out by 1
  7. Seems to me Petty was a bit inconsistent with his slight frame injured and he got pushed around bit when originally in defence. He became a bit stronger and was just developing as a solid addition to the defence, then moved to forward as an almost emergency option. He flourished and added some accuracy to the forward line and was a great fixture when our options were limited. He is now a very valuable component of any team, of course this does make him more attractive to Adelaide. They seem prepared to pay a premium for him. I would be saying to him this season is significant for him but more importantly the club and the team. We dont want to lose him and see him as a valuable long term Demon premiership player. But his value will be determined by his performance. If we win the flag this year and he contributes to that he will be even more attractive to Adelaide and will be able to command a healthy salary. We would then consider if we continue our progress to further flags with or without him. His ($$) value would be at maximum. If he plays poorly and doesnt contribute his value ($$$) would decrease and we would likely retain him to realise his full potential. I see his season as a great portent of the teams season. This discussion should be held privately and then transparently to his teammates, who would be given a similar message, Value is based on success, you will be given every opportunity for success at this club. Other clubs (Adelaide) will know that we value our players and they will have to make premium offers to entice them away from us.
  8. Dont know why the club dont reach out to Dland and tap into the expertise and experience in developing and maintaining this site. Im a tech luddite but am constantly impressed with the capabilities of Dland. Thanks to all operators, moderators and contributors. Hope you all have an enjoyable festive season and we all have a great new year.

that was the reason for my questions at the AGM. I am prepared to undertake a feasibility study as I think it is worthwhile having some alternatives for comparison and competition. But it is important to compare like with like. As Kate has said FB may be too expensive to obtain the required land space but alternatively as pointed out by others Caulfield might well be a cheaper option with limited investment return.
  10. I did apologise at the time for the length of my 7 paragraph preamble, and do so again if you found it so unreasonable. I felt and still feel it was necessary to put my question into some context in a structured fashion. I did not hear any groans and indeed was encouraged by the unsolicited moans of support and agreement with most of my comments from those around (closer to)me. Even Gary Pert who agreed to take my full submission for consideration was nodding in agreement at many of the points. Kate did answer as expected to my first question which merely, reprised my comment about member involvement. Kate reiterated that she had spoken to everyone and indeed has asked members at last years AGM to make suggestions which I have now done. I had spoken with Kate about Fishermans Bend Port Melbourne and she had been unaware of the Australia Post warehouse which I had heard rumours of. She did enlighten me about some of the FB developers and some of the companies that were involved in the speculative land purchasing that had occurred under both Liberal government and Labor governments. She also stated that these developers had put apparently unreasonable cost barriers in the way of club options. My question was "has the club sought from its stakeholders, members, sponsors and supporters any involvement or interests in the Fishermans Bend site" While I do not deny any of Kates comments I hardly think asking for any suggestions, adresses my specific question. As a member, I have never seen the club or Kate herself ask about fishermans Bend or Caulfield for that matter. I am also cognisant of confidentiality and conflict issues and my follow up questions were related to notice of who had been approached. I am happy to provide the questions to any one who asks but do not want to unnecessarily burden you further with unwanted information. I did have as my final question acknowledgement of the uncertainty of any feasibility study and did suggest to Gary Pert that to have an alternative proposal may provide some negotiating leveraging strategy. While not enthusiastically embracing my comments he did again, with a nod, accept my offering. Only time will tell of the developments. I note that it is reported today that Port Melbourne have moved on the Australia Post site and i suspect that other opportunities may be lost. I support the club and will continue to do so. If the feasibility study shows economic and organisational suitability, I will be delighted. But as was pointed out to me, any development in the existing market of scarce infrastructure resources, with costs at maximum is perhaps unwise. Again I will be pleased to adress that in my feasibility study.

Kate said at the AGM that she had spoken to everyone . Pert said at the AGM that they had looked at every option. I may be too late

Yes there is a strong dependence on the benevolence of the racing industry which has always been so generous in redistributing wealth. But seriously If Caulfield becomes a greenfield site for development of a training and administration facility it would be an extremely attractive investment. I think however that there will be many restraints due to the requirements of the racing facility. Await the outcomes of the feasibility report.

good question. FB has had support of both parties in the state. The concept of housing development is being given priority by the current Federal govt with enhanced view of skill shortage and migration. the cross bench and Green have also been supportive of these issues. The dontton party is just opposed to anything labor suggests and may be a bit irrelevant but has a strong ideological inclination for private investment and development. If the proposal was to include a nuclear power source they would build it as a priority. Caulfield is in the hands of the racing industry which is not travelling all that well and is subject to the same government difficulties you refer to. Would be great if it could happen quickly as you say, but the club initiating a feasibility study seems to be a bit less certain than you.

thought I responded to this but cant see. Sorry if repeated. Very interesting image. Noted that Tigers must be regional given their numbers and yet small representation on this image. Its interesting that clubs seem to be strong around their originating suburban base. Changing behaviour and population shift are considerable. Success seems to lead to membership. Dogs, Cats, HAwks Tigers and Pies all strong Note that Sydney have toe hold on Melbourne port, probably due to its South Melb origins. Maybe 80,000 at Fishermans Bend represents a new population which could be attracted to Melbourne.

Bit narrow if I am one of your dissenters, I am a very enthusiastic supporter. Introduce yourself at the AGM , would be delighted to meet you.

good on you for believing anything in the Sun. I think that was probably right in 2015 but i would hope we have moved on since then . I note a recent flag which may have increased our appeal. I am always surprised that Collingwood supporters live every where I go not just a block away from Victoria Park. Although when i worked in Collingwood I heard Peter Moore in the Collingwood barbers talking about he could only come in when they won coz if they lost the Collingwood heartland would spit on him. I dont see that happening in the respectable eastern suburbs surrounding Caulfield, maybe we can whip up that passion in Port and spread the enthusiasm to a new audience (80,000 in FB)

OK no need for that. Ill see what transpires at the AGM . Hope to see you there and you can convince me of my delusion.

Theres a new cohort coming to FB (80,000 predicted). Many likely to be unaligned new migrants. Plus our eastern suburb demographic may be decreasing with age, and family recruitment is diffused as housing requirements change. Theres a lot of social change going on and it is important that we as a club acknowledge that. It could be that Caulfield does represent some attraction to Melbourne supportersand could become known as Melbourne centeal. I dont see the Racing industry giving up the differentiation between the Caulfielld and Melbourne cups and will want to retain that strong marketing identity. We should do the same with Melbourne.

Good analogy although i doubt that any pregnancy is possible as the Racing Industry wont want any progeny that isnt in its stable. Again a feasibility statement that provides the detail of the prenup and relationship conditions will be vital. Agree also with public service advice, but thers not a lot of detail of any arrows fired.

Fishermans Bend is on the fringe of CBD and a greenfield site. With projections of 80,000 population public transport and road access will be provided to satisfy the development. Theres no station there yet but train, tram, light rail can all be provided. Theres access from freeways and Port Melbourne access seems effective. Port Melbourne is part of the heritage link, as is the link to the existing Ron Barrassi Snr oval to the west between FB and Docklands. Theres ample room for all facilities but it does require some bold and imaginative action. MFC has led the way in the past and can continue by reclaiming its place as the Melbourne team located between the Port and the CBD, not suburban linked. I am curious as to what is "demon heartland" definition. I say we are "Melbourne" and should be aligning and promoting ourselves as such. Im happy to hear all comments and look forward to more information being provided so an informed decision can be made. The feasibility study is a great process.

You may be correct. If its in the middle it would be a disaster, if its at one end or side with separate stands and access it might be fine, but it is still a minor portion of separate industry site. would need very careful consideration which is indeed part of the feasibility study. Its still early days for the project which has some very attractive features.

Could be a bit harsh PF, but i do agree dont like it' perhaps you could join us in looking for a Fishermans Bend feasibility project. come to the AGM.

Thanks NC. Not sure of zoning etc. Its a big site. As I say Caulfield is an attractive option but may also be time consuming.
