I think you are letting him off the hook here 'deanox', it was more likely he thought he understood the football side of things much more than he actually did. His opinion of his ability was nowhere near his actual capability. In other words he had no idea and a big ego.
-
He's not really a tall forward more a high half forward very quick who could develop into a tall mid at 191cm. Worth a look late first round early 2nd.
-
I understand why you are saying it but I think he still has a lot of upside, he is far from the fully developed player he will be. If we use him well he will give us a quick release from defence which is important to counter the defensive opposition tactics.
-
That brings up an interesting point on Boyd, there weren't any stand out tall defenders that I could see in the games played this week so it's pretty hard to mark a kid at his size against minimal competition.
-
Summed up pretty well. I would like to see Scharenberg in the mids as well, he is likened to Goddard and I can see that. Like Goddard he plays the sweeper well but can he get his own ball in the middle.

"There's a strong argument," Gil McLachlan on a Priority Pick.

If I had the Boyd pick I would be asking Carlton for Murphy and they would have to consider, so yeah it's always worth asking the question. -

If you could give them Boyd they might have to consider but even then very unlikely. Sloane??? Their need for a key forward is not as big as Carlton's, they do have Tex on the way back. Carlton has Waite on the way out. -
He, Scharenberg shows the capabilities to move to the midfield though and height is a factor here. Uses the ball very well, knows how to get it. I like what I've seen of Sheed, need to have a good look at Kelly.

No way...

It's not there at the moment, may be some go home factor at the end of season but as was shown in another post there is not much available now. I don't think our list is that bad but results tell the story in the end. That's an interesting point. This years draft trade time is going to open up some fascinating scenarios. -

Wouldn't call them top, but yes the cupboard is bare for trades unless we had something to offer. If we had pick one then someone, most likely Carlton would have to make a play for it. Without a key forward they are going nowhere, quality players would be on the table then and not the rejects that Robbo put up on 360 last night. Sorry if I misunderstood your point but the wording of top talent had me confused. As I've said above the only way we can move top talent is to have something of value. Interesting times ahead. -
We will be linked to all 4 players you have named before draft day and you may as well throw in Dunstan and Billings for good measure. Jay Clark article????

...but it hasn't I would not be happy with that at all, we pick up a PP at 20. No it needs to be at the top end of the draft, if it was pick one then we can decide to keep it for Boyd and trade one of our other forwards or trade the Boyd pick on. If it's pick 2 then we get 2 great kids to add to the list. 3 of these can't get a game and the other is a tagger, why are they top midfielders. Because they are available doesn't make them top midfielders. -

We may well have that pick anyway, but even if we don't it really doesn't give us much to jump up one pick in the draft order, no we need 2 picks at the top end of the draft. -

I'm not sure why people think there are experienced quality mids ready to be traded. Who are they? where are they? Free agents are a different bag. The last quality mid that moved (apart from the GC & GWS steals) as far as I remember was Judd, some 2nd stringers like Kennedy became 'A' graders but you most certainly wouldn't have traded a top pick for him at the time. Under the conditions (that we know of) of getting a PP I believe we would qualify well and truly and no matter what any other club or their mouthpiece jounos say it should be at the top end of the draft. We are competing with GWS & GC to get back on top and they have been given an enormous bump by the AFL, we need to get the best we can. Adding Kelly and Sheed or Scharenburg to the club with Hogan, Viney and Toumpas will at least give as a chance to compete otherwise we will always be making up the numbers. Wake up demonland this is absolutely vital for us becoming a final 8 participant or a contender. -
So you are after a tall mid.

3 different guys there...what do you want?

I'm not saying it should or shouldn't I'm just saying a request has been put in and obviously that request is not based on the rest of the season because it hasn't happened. The request has been made by the club along with the financial assistance package and the AFL said we would receive an answer in 3 to 4 weeks of the request being made. If they want to give us extra picks I reckon you don't look a gift horse in the mouth...it's not about tanking or trying to lose games, in footy speak "it is what it is".. -

The submission to the AFL included the request for draft assistance, it obviously (there's that word again) contained nothing about the rest of the season and in truth it shouldn't. -

We've already put our case and it's not contingent on how the rest of the season pans out it's based on the last 6 years. -

I think we will have an answer if not now at least when AD gets back from hols. Interesting to see if the AFL leaks it, as PJ has shown he's pretty good at keeping a secret and there is next to no board left to leak anything even if they know. -

Yep, but there is no reason for us to trade a high pick for these type of players and I know they are only an example you are giving. Gibbs I would think about, it just depends on what recruiters see the upside of Sheed, Dunstan, Aish or Kelly. It also depends on us getting a PP then what GWS want to do with Boyd and also of course where we finish. -

The dogs have ruled out Griffen...Freo will be interesting but my bet is on Carlton, will they pay the price? Read your post, just think they will use Boyd to trade into the senior players they need. Yarran or Lucas wouldn't fit the bill, maybe Gibbs and Yarran and a pick back, would Carlton be prepared to trade Murphy for a key forward? They won't get him for some package of fringe players. I'm not sure Freo have the currency to spend, Fyfe but would they give him up? -

It will be interesting to see if anyone has the courage to pay the price.
