Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
rjay replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
They are overly dependent on Bont...the win or lose on his back & it's not a great way to structure up in a team sport. -

They really don't know how to use him & I'm happy for them not to figure it out... ...but there was a brief period when he was on ball I think in the 2nd Q that they started to get some control of the game. His ruck work is good thanks to Max but he will never have the opportunity to use it at Freo. -

Surely that's their fault...he just took the cash. He didn't have to chase it. He was not the one offering it. They presented him with a golden opportunity. Sometimes that gold is fools gold... -

I think in any draft 'Gonzo'...I must admit to not seeing much of him at all but he looks highly speculative. GC have that many picks I guess they can afford that risk but...I don't know. -
I think this needs to be looked at with the holding the ball rule. There are no doubt big changes ahead for all contact sports but rules shouldn't be viewed in isolation. What constitutes a legitimate tackle and how/when a player tackled moves the ball on or doesn't needs to be looked as part of the whole. Also gang tackles should be looked at, the pile on is not good optics.

Just had a look at the first half on replay tonight and Gus was by far our best defender, the only one who stood up.

Yes, but it would be amusing if Port turned up to play in Melbourne.

Did you think Jackson spent much time on ball? It appeared to me they wanted to use the advantage they had with Darcy. Be interested in the stats for his time on ball and centre bounce appearances. -

No, not just you. I was saying the same with regard to Rowell to someone this morning. He's not a big mid (similar size to Viney I would guess but Vin has much more mongrel) and the shoulder injuries seem to have set him back. Not sure whether he will realise the promise of his early games. Both him and O'Meara came into the game with such a blaze of glory but have become so run of the mill. I guess that's why it's dangerous to heap expectations on a young player...Hogan and Daniher also come to mind. -

Not sure what GC saw in Mac Andrew to draft him so high. I wonder if we would have taken him if he got through to our first pick. -

They really are struggling...can't use the youth excuse anymore. Enough of their players have been in the system for a while now. I think the issue is the work is being left to too few. A lot of lazy footballers. -

At least he has a bit of an excuse...but he really might as well not been there. Apart from one mark I'm not sure he did anything else. -

...and wouldn't hit up the ball. Continually wanted to get the easy one over the back. They really are struggling to get a consistent effort. As for Freo...unless something changes they look like a bottom 6 team. -
Struggled with the contest, looked like he picked that aspect up a bit last year but in the end it was better for him to move on. Even though he was moved on. Like Hannan, in the end was only depth and was pretty deep down the pecking order. Seems like a decent kid, so...good luck to him, he's played more AFL games than me and probably anyone else on here.
-
Great centre line... I'm probably a little bit older than you and that's why I had Hassa Mann (a hero of mine when I was a kid) instead of Wells. ...but Wells was a great player, a hard choice. Saw more of him live than Hassa.

would love to go but unfortunately working that morning...enjoy and look forward to your report back.
-
He sure was...
-
Why? I saw him play and the topic is about the best I've seen. He is... If you want to select by decades start another topic.
-
Love this HB line What a great player Gary Hardeman was My centre line would be Flower Mann Alves
-
Sad as it is 'Ethan', you are probably right. The question then is...where does it sit with the law? Could he sue the AFL for not letting him play? Interesting times ahead.

I don't think that will ever be JVR's problem. He's big enough to look after himself football wise. The best attribute he has at the moment is he will fight to bring the ball to ground if he can't mark it and we don't have anyone else who does this. Having said that, I don't think he is a lock for the season. The fight he will have is to keep his spot.

At least he isn't wrong there...

...and then they trade Jackson back for a salary cap dump.
