  1. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank jayceebee for unintentionally making this the most entertaining thread of the off-season. It's Pilkington-esque. Bravo.
  2. Pure ignorance. He was starting to look like a mini-Frawley if anything. He'd cemented a spot in the side.
  3. I don't think there's any merit in the theory that Demetriou think he "owes us" and targeted us for having to publicly defend us in allegations against tanking. But I do believe it removed any real desire to defend us against having Scully taken by GWS (possibly because he knew GWS had already set their strategy on poaching him before it occurred to us he may be a target, or even before he was on the list), or to give us any equitable compensation. Whether reasonable or not, I think he adopted an attitude of "you made your bed, now lie in it." In any case, I don't really care. I think there's every chance the players we get with compo picks could outweigh what we've lost. Especially if we can trade them to GWS for a kid like Jack Martin. Any puerile desire to prevent GWS from ending up with the picks doesn't interest me one iota - it's all about the best net result for MFC and MFC alone.
  4. How on earth do you not understand it? It couldn't be any clearer.
  5. Oh, and couch. Definitely couch.
  6. Mind-boggling reasoning. Those years haven't been so bloody successful for the Melbourne Football Club. We've wasted years on players that weren't up to it in the past, so we should continue to do so with a longshot that can barely get through the draft combine? Mental. I'd be looking at Nelson and Marley Williams.
  7. At about 3:30, you should have said! Watching 3 mins of Bernie Vince in the reserves ain't great!
  8. It says to me that Craig thought Sellar might have it in him to make it, but he just needed a bit more time to develop than most. Some are late bloomers. I could see him being the type to be delisted, spend a year or 2 in the SANFL, then be a valuable addition to an AFL team. Nick Lower style.
  9. Bizarrely yesterday I was going to post that I thought he was the most likely to get recycled out of anyone, but didn't know where to put it and didn't bother... Never thought for a second it would be us though! Not exactly a vote of confidence for Lynden Dunn, either.
  10. Yes. And so do other astute minds. I don't see how you can say Trengove has a bit to prove, but then laud Martin and Hurley as A grade players, largely based on a lot of hype.
  11. I'd find it hard to believe this wouldn't be approved by Misson first. And who's to say with a bit more bulk Morton's game style wouldn't change? His style is largely predicated by his light frame. If he had Jobe Watson's build, he'd go in for a lot more hard footy and contested marks.
  12. It'd be great if Waldhuter could do something other than tackle and run fast.
  13. There's a large dose of luck involved. For every Fyfe taken at around 20, or Hanneberry taken around 30, it ignores the fact that the team choosing him probably would've opted for a Tambling, a Farren Ray or a James Sellar instead, if they were still available at that point rather than being chosen top 10.
  14. Those players are A grade, but Trengove isn't? You need to take off your turd-coloured glasses when appraising young demons, Robbie. And BP wasn't in charge for the 2007 draft, so not sure what the relevance is. Really what I was trying to illustrate is that NONE of the players drafted in the time BP has been in charge have become A graders because they are all too young. A lot show promise, but aren't there yet. (bar Fyfe in my opinion - but he is a special case and even Freo have been surprised with how he has developed).
  15. Exactly how many players drafted in the time BP has been in charge have proven to be A grade?
  16. What's the tangible difference? The players applying the press on game will be the same ones applying it in training for that drill. You can't practice the press if the players pressing start with the ball.
  17. Very poor OP based on... nothing at all.
  18. My thinking is rookie, or pick ~56 at best (our 3rd pick in the national draft). I don't think other teams will be falling over each other to beat us to the punch. He's just far too speculative.
  19. Rubbish. You've got no idea. I've played with Nath Ablett and he has all the talent in the world. His problem is that he doesn't have an angry bone in his body. He's just too nice a kid. No mean streak whatsoever. I put it down to his old man becoming a born again Christian when Nay was really young. Unfortunately to succeed in the AFL you need to have more than just a desire to play with your mates - you need an abnormal competitive drive. This is what he lacks.
  20. Funny, I think the same about those who make these posts ^^^
  21. A player that won't take the game on, effectively, out of the backline, and continually selects the "safe" option or turns it over, will get you killed against an efficient forward press. Football is increasingly unable to accommodate players with Bartram's limitations. Him playing an important role says more about the state of our list and lack of a decent small defender, than it does about his ability.
  22. Rogue = Gossip Girl?
  23. I heard it, but I didn't believe it.
  24. I said the same thing a few months ago. Was duly ridiculed. People have short memories, and forget that Swan has only been in the elite bracket of mids for 2 years... since Neeld became his line coach.
  25. Don't really see how this is irrefutable proof of Scully having agreed to anything as early as Nov 2010 - only that GWS were trying to entice him that early... And that he lied through his teeth through 2011.
