NON-MFC: Rd 22 2023
Nothing would bring me greater joy than for the dees to smash the pies in the grand final and for the crowd to ironically chant Collingwood in the last 5minutes as their fans exit.

Is tuohy injured? Couple of non-efforts by him this quarter

NON-MFC: Rd 22 2023
I'm torn. Cats to lose to increase likelihood of missing out on finals. Pies to lose to have 3 losses in a row and destroy all momentum going into finals. Also can't stand either team.

The Soccer thread
I want to like soccer, I really do. I see the appeal and the skill. But watching Japan vs Sweden tonight and I'm yet again left frustrated with the game. Penalties for players falling over their own feet, players carrying on like they've been shot after incidental boot on boot contact, or any contact for that matter. Umpires calling time with a whistle, yet allowing play to continue some seconds or minutes past the end and injury time. So much is ripe for corruption, and poor umpiring in one moment in the game can decide the outcome. All on board the Matilda train but beyond that soccer will fade into the ether for me.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/department-of-trade/afl-trade-news-rumours-whispers-melbourne-demons-to-trade-up-draft-board-early-pick-selections-kai-lohmann-latest/news-story/093c26e637ef117f9a737993fd57655f Nothing earth shattering but confirms that we've already held preliminary discussions with clubs around trading up in the draft, both in reference to pick 4 and our later picks. Suggests we are well placed, as are the Roos, to make a play for Reid.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Zane Duursma championship highlights. Hawks allegedly very keen so may just end up out of reach.

Which hated player would you love to love at the Dees?
Brayden Maynard. Truth be told I don't actually hate him that much but many here seem to.

PREGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Not a huge fan of Smith forward as I don't think he has the craft for it. Not sure we have a lot of other options though. If he does go forward then Tomlinson needs to come in. I know Carlton aren't tall in the front half but we always look infinitely better when we can free up one of lever or may to intercept. Will Grundy come in to give us a tall presence in our forward half for 10-20min a quarter with Max and Brodie rotating through. Schache about the only other option but I don't think he'll be considered.

Indeed. That's why I highlighted Curtin and Watson as other candidates for their pick.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
MFC game 100 this weekend I believe. Been fantastic for the club. Any special banner planned @WalkingCivilWar? Edit: he just recently had his 150th afl game, can't remember if he got a banner then. Don't want him to get too much or an ego.

Absolutely a fair call. So much is going to come down to what West Coast do with pick 1 as well.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
If West Coast take Reid then North will have to think long and hard about Curtain. If they believe he's not a flight risk then he's a must for their list profile in my view. If North can pre-list Sanders then they may go McKercher to try and keep mates together and avoid a pull to the new Tassie team. Think Watson would also suit them in the front half. They start becoming dangerous down there with Larkey, Zuurhar and a predicted moved of Sheezel to the attacking 50 next near where he excelled as a junior.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
If Duursma keeps kicking 6 goals a game for the rest of the year he may end up a top 3 pick. I'll be happy with any of Curtin, Watson, Duursma or McKercher assuming we don't get a look in at Reid. I'm curious to see what we do with our natural first rounder. We will have hot competition for GCs pick, but can see perhaps GWS, Geelong or Carlton splitting their first rounders for multiple picks as well.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
That's definitely an option and we've shown we're not afraid to slide back in the draft previously. All depends how JT and co see the draft pool. From what I've read and listened to, this draft has a bit of a drop off after the first 6-8 players (GCs Walter and Read included). Makes me think we'll take pick 4 or 5 to the draft and perhaps try and upgrade our next pick or even invest in next year's draft. Another factor is how many players we will take with list spot availability, wouldn't surprise if we only took 2 kids and upgrade D Turner.

Reid I agree is unlikely but not sure you can be definitive about any other player. We will most likely be selecting one of Duursma, Curtain, Watson or McKercher. Sanders may be in the mix as well if North don't get him pre-listed. Who knows if someone will bolt into top 5 contention like Oliver or Bont. Seems reasonable to discuss prospects around the mark.
