The Trent Rivers appreciation thread
Having a strong year and good chance for a top 5 B&F finish. His kicking has become a real weapon with his ability to hit targets long and short while also removing those howlers from earlier in the season. So glad he's ours and won't be long before the rest of the AFL world catch on to how good he is. Sam Mitchell already knows.

I like it. I haven't kept across all the rule changes but is there still something in place that removes a clubs ability to stockpile draft picks? I remember there was a rule that clubs need to have as many list spots open as draft selections or something similar. For example. This would prevent them from trading pick 4 for 5 picks in the 30's+ if they only have a list spot or 3 players. Can't remember if this is still a thing but may impact what clubs can offer.

Barrett suggesting Port are favourites in his inaccurately named "sliding doors" article. Also is surprisingly positive about the clubs re-singing of goodwin and our resolve in response to a recent muckracker.

If they trade out pick 4 they will need to make up 2000 odd points to match the bids or go into deficit next year. Pick 4 is a very valuable asset though so would think they would want a bit more than just points. Future picks might be required as well. Otherwise they can just use pick 4 to match and save themselves the trouble of trading out for no benefit and gifting a rival a top 5 pick.- PREGAME: Rd 24 vs Sydney

Can't see us paying anything for him to leave. Collingwood is still on the hook for 250k and a club will get a #1 premiere ruck for 650k gor 4 years. Bargain. We still have power as we can keep him if a deal doesn't satisfy. Gawn is getting on and we have no other legitimate ruck options for next year if we are to move him on. Clubs are going to have to stump up a decent offer.- Trade Rumours 2023

I believe there's been a misunderstanding between us red. I interpreted your post as the AFL have a vested interest in ensuring the Eagles pick up a certain player. They couldn't care less about which club picks which player come draft night. That was the intention of my post. Of course pick 2 is overs in compo and will have incredibly bad optics. Facts remain that the roos have been a disaster for the last 4 years, worse than Fitzroy, and their 2nd and 3rd round compo last year had negligible effect on performance with the roos going on to break the longest ever losing streak within an afl season (20 in a row). They will apply for assistance and they will get it. How that shapes us is still debatable, could be access to sanders, could be higher picks to trade, could be massaged fa compo. Pick 2 doest pass the eye test and I think it's more unlikely than likely, but to dismiss it as even a possibility is being a bit foolish for mine. Appreciate if you drop the condescending remarks at the end of the post next time.- Trade Rumours 2023

Wonder if things aren't all that happy at the kennel. Dunkley wanting out, Smith reportedly wants out. Perhaps we can try and entice Naughton. Is contracted so unlikely but doggies also have a lot of key forward prospects coming through in JUH, Darcy and Croft in this year's draft. Doggies might be tempted by another mini reset of their list with early picks.- Harley Reid
I'd do it, but would North? Also not convinced we are the most likely to get the Suns pick but we have a good hand to make a play. Edit: if they do receive pick 2 from the McKay compensation (they shouldn't but that's another debate) then it could actually help us to an extent. Roos would then consider picks 2, 5, 6 and future 1st. Vs 1 and 2. Pretty decent haul. Big call to say no to Reid though for them.- Trade Rumours 2023

Of course he isn't. No one is suggesting he is. But the AFL rules are deliberately ambiguous and they can make it happen. It will be their draft assistance. And if Sydney pays him $1,000,000 then that makes it all the more easier for the AFL to approve. The Eagles are the richest and most well resourced club in the game and won a flag only 5 years ago. AFL won't and shouldn't do them any direct favours, particularly as history (read ladder) will show them as not the worst team over the past two years. If they have another 1-2 years of these performances, then they can apply for assistance.- Trade Rumours 2023

West Coast may have shot themselves in both feet if North ends up with pick 2 for McKay compo. Reid and Curtin likely to be Roos you would imagine. Of course that has negative implications for us as well.- Mitch Georgiades

Out of contract and recovering from an ACL, it was reported earlier in the year that he could find a home east instead of back to WA. With Grundy potentially looking at moving and Port being an interested party, will we make a play for the 192cm athletic forward who held our interest in his draft year? Edit: Apologies @The heart beats true and @Grand New Flag . Just saw your posts in another thread- Trade Rumours 2023
If he wants to stay in Vic then it seems Geelong is his only suitor. They only have pick 8 this year with their later picks currently in the 80s. Might only be looking at future 2nd from them, however I wonder if they would be enticed with a slide of picks. Grundy, 15 and 34 for pick 8 and future 2nd. That gets us a second top 10 pick and extra capital for the future while Geelong get Grundy and add an earlier 2nd pick this year. Conversely, I wonder if North would be interested. We might be able to get the Ben McKay compensation presumably end of first round. Port only have 37 and 43 this year while Sydney have picks 22, 31, 41 and 50. If he chooses Sydney then we may benefit from adding one of their picks to a deal with Gold Coast for their 1st rounder. Sydney being one of our direct competitors for that selection with their draft hand.- Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
He's a very good tall and very much has a competitive streak. Excels at taking the ball at the highest point and goes for his intercept marks. Has a lovely left foot and can kick it a mile. Stands probably close to 200cm and probably as skinny as Jefferson so will take some time to build his body.- Trade Rumours 2023
