NON-MFC: Round 06
The comp is in a diabolical state by every metric meaningful to the average punter. It all looks spectacular from the Commission’s, and therefore the corporate, perspective. Mirrors the rest of society I suppose.

PREGAME: Rd 06 vs Brisbane
Sort of off topic . . . Can anyone explain to me what is meant by the term "we need [insert player name] for his experience". Cos I have KFI what that means at Melbourne.

Welcome to Demonland: Xavier Taylor

TRAINING: Tuesday 14th April 2026
This is the greatest piece of gaslighting since Goody said he had the full support of the Board. When fans and media observe a player clearly struggling physically and are told it's "form," the official narrative and the observable reality don't align. The circularity is both mind-blowing and load-bearing. It allows the club to communicate just enough to manage expectations without accepting responsibility for either the selection or the injury management.

Farewell Steven May
Imagine rock'in up to play full back for the Sth Croydon Bulldogs on a pleasant Satdee arvo and the coach says, "Giddy Johno, just lett'in ya know, you're standing Stephen May today".

PREGAME: Rd 06 vs Brisbane
Excellent point @BLWNBA and the data backs you up. Melbourne's tackle count isn't the problem. We're averaging 58.4 per game and our differential is +10.6, third best in the competition. We're out-tackling our opposition by a significant margin every week, so anyone arguing we need to tackle more is looking at the wrong number. Where it gets interesting is that winning the tackle differential doesn't seem to be saving us either. We're 3-2 despite being one of the best tackling teams in the comp by the metric that actually matters. Which brings us back to your point about F50 efficiency. If the pressure is genuinely there but the scoreboard isn't following, the problem is further up the chain. We're creating the contest. We're just not converting it. The tackles aren't the issue. What happens after them might be.

Orian came in at 40,000 kph. Bears will make that look pedestrian. Thank goodness some 'Landers are are not running selection panels on Thursday night.

PREGAME: Rd 06 vs Brisbane
FWIW - I've watched the Norf/Bears game from yesterday. Norf completely blue it with lack of discipline and appalling kicking for goal by those who should know better (Larkey, Curtis, Zurhar [as usual]). The Bears are beatable IF was bring our one wood and they are a couple of percent down.

I accepted the Flagmantle result, as did many others on here, graciously. I do not accept what was dished-up yesterday.

POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
And on a positive note, based on today’s results, before the 10,000 concessions, we’ll have two selections inside the top 12 of the 2026 draft.

He was probably our third best player today - and if not, def in our best six. what are you talking about?
-
POSTGAME: Rd 05 vs Essendon
I would add this . . . you can talk about game plans, being out-coached and team selection all you like, but without pressure none of it matters. Norm Smith couldn’t coach a bunch of blokes who refuse to unconditionally put their head over the ball and stick tackles. This deficiency was noted in the game day thread about 10 minutes into the game. Commitment to the contest is a non-negotiable regardless of age, experience, seniority or footy ability. This is what happens when 12 bruise-free footballers turn-up to play.
