and that he is being offered a $700,000 a year contract ...
-
I'd be amazed if any club has only 5 coaches heading into a season.
-
Well considering in 2013 we had 2 on each line, plus Craig and Neeld, we are still several short. We only have 5 confirmed coaches at this point with Stone a rumour. If Roos is serious about developing this list then he needs support to do this. Our current coaching group is very thin on numbers and experience (other than Roos) Looking at other club websites (and I feel dirty having to do so...) But most have 9-10 names in their coaching groups, sure that often includes the VFL coach and the head of their coaching department, but Roos has that role with us as well as being the senior match day coach... I would be hoping to see 2-3 more coaches added to our team before 2014 starts,...
-
Have to agree, I haven't heard any comment about Matthews or Alison's roles,... regardless, we still are some coaches short at this point.
-
Regardless of whether they 'annoint' a senior assistant to replace Roos in a few years we still need some more coaching staff to come on board, Miller is only a development coach, we haven't heard what Matthews and Alison are doing in terms of coaching role (unless I have missed it) The George Stone rumour is just that at the moment..
-
Bit of a stretch trying to compare Crouch to Jones.... Jones would be tagged almost every week, Crouch has Dangerfield, Sloane, Vince, Thompson etc around him, he isn't the obvious choice for a tag...
-
Agree with the above comments. To me it's about perception here, we have tried to land Dew it would appear, and we didn't. Now if we come out and say the person we want is not coming till next year, it looks bad.
-
so ... there were 5-6 candidates according to Mahoney, Burns, Simpson and Dew were three of these candidates. We haven't spoken with Tudor or Bassett, who does that leave? I wonder whether we look to contact Bassett,... who else? Voss & Harvey are unlikely IMO. What about Lappin who is at Geelong currently? Sumich? Could Rawlings be a chance to be elevated from within the coaches we already have? Interesting to see what our next comment is on this... and is it just me or does Paul Roos & PJ seem very quiet at the moment? it could just be that Mahoney is the person that is visible to the media due to the trade period I guess....
-
It's good that things are not being leaked, but at this time of year as supporters who are wanting 'anything' to allow hope for the new season it's frustrating as hell :D I think we will be happy at the end of this trade period, I just reckon we will need to wait till closer to the end of the trade period. Not sure if people heard Nathan Brown and the other guy afterwards, but they both seemed to think that the Dees have a bit of hope and something to look forward to, but they commented that the Dees and Saints are trying to be active, but it's hard when some of the other clubs are not as eager...
-
I don't think it's that suprising for players who can't get into midfields at their clubs and want to be playing AFL week in week out.... but it means that these are fringe players at their clubs.
-
Josh Mahoney just stated of the 5-6 guys for this role, Dew seems to be their preferred option. They didn't even talk with Tudor, and Bassett hasn't been spoken to either.
-
His avatar pic.... how could you not trust a face like that!
-
I agree that I can't see why they would trade Steven, but as for your opinion of Pelchen, he sounds like a control freak to me, and I get the feeling that he is driving a lot of whats happening down at the Saints at the moment, and I don't think a lot of that is sitting well with players and some of the football staff. Thats purely my opinion, but he didn't leave the Hawks on the best of terms either if I recall.
-
It could be us getting a player and we trade 2 for pick 3. Gives the Saints a better shot at trying to land Boyd if they can work something out with GWS.
-
Apparently he approached us about the role, so I can't see that being the case. If it were, it's a simple matter of stating that he wants to stay at the Swans, and the media moves on. Articles about us wanting him, and Sydney wanting to keep him wouldn't be printed if there was no story. He obviously wants to come, or is weighing up both offers.
-
Slightly OT, but you would have to think, this is a fantastic opportunity for whoever gets the role. The three coaches at the AAMI Park in the respective codes Ange Postecoglou at the Victory, Craig Belamy at the Storm and now Paul Roos at the Dees. I would argue that these three coaches are perhaps some of if not the best coaches in any football codes in Australia (Roos has been out for several years obviously) but the knowledge that these guys possess about 'Football' codes is huge!

Brisbane (If Longer leaves,... Jamar to team up with Moloney again?)
-
Yup, good deal for both I would have thought. Tom Hickey looks like he can take the mantle as the main ruckman, they get Savage and another first round pick Hawks must have thought Longer was not attainable I guess.
-
Sounds like he is coming with their first round pick to the Saints, in return for McEvoy. (Rumour on SEN atm)
-
3 weeks for trade week is crazy though... 2 weeks in total for free agency and trade week at an absolute maximum. We might hear nothing for another week or more and then the mad flurry in the last 2-3 days.
-
From the sounds of it, Spud still reckons there is a precedent to allow Dew to come to us if we want him as our senior assistant (Leon Cameron @ GWS). Sounded like the coaching association a week or so back was stating that because both roles are still assistant roles then the Swans are well in their rights to keep him, but now they seem to have changed their tune and are now saying they acknowledge the senior assistant position is a promotion. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-04/new-coach-protocols-working-well-says-frawley?utm_medium=RSS

Not to my knowledge he hasn't, both parties have come together and are going to help facilitate a trade for him, pretty certain he is still contracted in 2014, but wants to move on for more opportunity.
-
I just use demonland as my "I have heard a rumour" source. I then tell mates and people IRL... occasionally makes me sound like I have 'inside knowledge'. So no pressure guys and gals, but I need some more good oil... stop feeding me the carp
-
I rate him as a player, and I think he would be good as the icing on top, perhaps not a bread and butter player which we need to build the midfield with. I reckon he would be shopped around for a late first round/early second round pick. I'd rate him as an an upgrade over Sylvia in terms of output. I don't think I can come up with anything where it would see us letting pick 2 go. (Maybe if they bundled him with Mitch Duncan or Jackson Thurlow... but thats unlikely)
-
Cross is a delisted FA, we don't get lose compensation if we take him onto our list. As for other FAs... don't think there are that many that we are interested in are there? As pointed out above it's likely we will get something like Band 3. The joke in all of this (football purist perspective) is that Hawthorn are likely to only receive a pick 1 or 2 places higher than us for Franklin compared to what we get for Sylvia. Yeah, I am upset about losing Sylvia... untapped potential aside, we have just lost a 150 game player with a mature body that we would have been playing through the midfield, the one place we have a weakness, it will hurt us... it's one more mid we have to now chase this trade period!
