  1. Not so sure he will get to 200 this week against the saints. I didn't like the optics of that mark in the goalsquare, nor his 'excuse' for why he took it rather than let it through. Additionally I like what I have seen in the last few weeks with the Weid, and he at least feels like he is capable of getting a bag of 3 or 4. I don't get that feeling with Tom, who is more of a structural element than a player in form. But he thoroughly deserves to get to 200, and has been a good servant of the club.
  2. The biggest issue I see with this rule is that you have players such as Hawkins, Selwood, Danger who are constantly on the edge of staging for free kicks. When they do (like Hawkins against Harris Andrews last week) and it's blatant, not only is the player being penalised cos they of the staged kick, but players now have absolutely no avenue to vent that frustration, which is more directed against the player taking the dive, not the umpire. It would not surprise me to see a case this year where they the MRO, rub out a player for taking a dive, but during the game that player also given the free for the dive (unsighted), a 50m penalty because their opponent remonstrates, and then most likely a shot at goal.
  3. The compensation package that another club would have to provide to the MFC to get Luke Jackson out of our club hasn't been seen before! Jeremy Cameron was 3 first rounders (13, 15 & 20) Jackson would be significantly higher again based on age profile, talent, the number of years of service remaining...
  4. I don't have a problem if that is the call. How can you say if he was concussed by the hit or by hitting the ground? It's impossible, but you can say that the end result was caused by an action that the player making the spoil was responsible for. But I agree that the consistency of applying the rules is key!
  5. If Maynard had gone with a straight arm to punch instead of a round arm that collected his head with the bicep, the bloke would have a better chance to land. From what the tribunal has indicated, Maynard caused the contact, and it doesn't really matter whether the concussion occurs with the direct hit or the subsequent landing of the player in question. PS: That Dangerfield action is shocking, but not as bad as the fact that the media are too scared to raise the spectre of their darling doing something bad. Dangerfield, Selwood and Hawkins have a thuggery element that is almost never exposed by the media.
  6. media coverage here is horrid, but the second round should be set to 3 minutes per selection, every club says they have their lists pretty much set, get on with it people! So dull.
  7. Apparently whilst she isn't required to get a vaccine to play sport in SA, she will be required to get vaccinated to continue working as a nurse by November 1st. So lets see how it plays out.
  8. Taj was quiet in the second half, but the statisticians must have gone for a pie in that last q. Sheldrick's stats barely moved from the 23 or 25 they said he had at 3QT, and he apparently had 26 for the match, similarly I was fairly certain Taj had 15 at 3QT and then in the leading stats for the game he wasnt' even there.... yet they had another player with 14 as one of the leading players... Not that it makes much of a difference.
  9. Pretty certain if he wants to go to the crows he does so without a trade. Chandler is a rookie listed player who is out of contract. Maybe check with others who know more, but don't think we get anything there sadly.
  10. I noticed it, but I think that it was more a case of everyone gravitating to a single pile on point. Jack ended up in the tumble of most of those guys, but initially was standing a bit further away when the siren went and he lifted his arms in celebration when a lot of the others just ran wildly at Oliver... he missed out :P I suspect Viney is not as charismatic as Gawn, it doesn't mean he doesn't lead by example.
  11. Melk's body is a better playing condition than Lynch, who was shot this year. Not sure I agree 100%
  12. I thought Turner was earmarked as an intercept defender more like Lever than a back pocket. Agree with some others though that Deakyn Smith is another option we have, and in a of the VFL games that actually got played earlier in the year he looked pretty likely.

I don't think Carlton are looking to pay him any more than we are, and the MFC wouldn't even entertain such a trade for a depth player, so he would be coming as a starting 18 player. Would be curious to see what role we are pitching to him to get him to consider us.
  14. I think I've watched Tracs dribbling goal in the 3rd quarter from the pocket a dozen times, not sure if it's because of the sublime disposal, or because of Kozzie's hit on Dunkley... soooo good to watch!
  15. Not as much as Gawn being slung to the ground by Daniel whilst over the boundary line, with Max's head hitting the astroturf. That said, we should give Daniels a thank you card cos immediately after that play was the beginning of the end with Harmes kick to Fritta! 😄

I think Sparrow has a promising career in front of him, but seriously any list manager, including Taylor would jump at getting pick 5 for a player like Sparrow or a trade for Neale or Cerra. Midfielders are a dime a dozen,...

Happy to take Tom being poor for four to five weeks given where we are in the season, if it means we win the big dance in another 2 games time. 👍
  18. I was listening to SEN (I think) and the comment was that this type of thing is a 6 week ban in the lower leagues, so the AFL needs to put a message out if they are serious about the fact that intentionally making contact with an umpire is an absolute no go. Agree with the previous comment from one of the people here that if it was one of the female umps, or imagine it happening to a junior is a lower league, there would be outrage. I would hope that the GWS are furious with Green internally, and TBH they should plead guilty and move on, that is their best chance of a 2 week fine. If they plead not guilty here I reckon the tribunal will go harder. Green chose to walk and talk to Stevic at the break and was fired up, there is absolutely no way that encounter was anything other than intentional regardless of the contact. I love Green as a footballer, and I honestly think without him, GWS are going to struggle against Geelong, but thats no excuse for what he did, and he's cost his team a great shot at getting through to a prelim I reckon.
  19. I thought I heard that both games sold out in minutes... but I have also heard that Tassie is one of the only states with no Anti-scalping legislation in place, and that scalpers may have bought up pretty quickly too :/ The Swans have a healthy following in Tassie, I think more from those who were South Melb supporters of old....
  20. Totally agree with the top 3, and TBH, we have a chance of maybe 4 players in All Australian team this year, combine that with 4 players in the under 22 team, and potentially a rising star winner, a brownlow, a premiership, coaches award, coach of the year... not bad for a team that has constantly been saying since the pre-season that they play for each other, rather than the accolades. Awesome!!!
  21. Only 3 Colin? Curious who they are, Clarry, Tracc and?? Lever? May? Gawn? (with Jackson, Kozzie and a couple of others coming up fast) ahhh the age old Champion v Elite v A Grade discussion! :D
  22. Obscure stats? exactly where did I say anything about stats sorry? It's you that is basing facts apparently off a single game's stats of a 6 touch game. My point is that stats aren't everything! On the body of work for the team, Brayshaw is playing as a the defensive wingman and it's a clearly defined and selfless role that he has taken on. It's not a sexy role for sure, and I'm not even saying Brayshaw has had the best season of his life, but he's played a team role most weeks that has allowed others in the team to shine.
  23. yep... its a clear flaw, I mean look at where we are on the ladder 🙄
  24. He's playing a selfless role and playing as the defensive winger, if he had failed, in the season that we have had, and with the lack of injuries our side has had then why would Goodwin and match committee done something about it? Because he is playing his role for the team, and does it well. Do you know who plays on the other wing to Andrew Gaff? I don't... In fact the only team where I know both wingers is Brisbane where they have McCluggage and Robinson, and thats really only cos Robbo is a bit of a nutter. Most clubs dont play 2 dominant wingmen.
  25. Got a few friends who are Sydney supporters, I don't think they feel that their side is all that settled at the moment, losing Blakey, but they reckon Hickey's knee is holding together with floss at the moment. GWS and Essendon's formlines aren't any worse than the top6 teams... it's a pretty open race. I do like that our side is settled though.
