  1. This stat is covered tikey. Not individually (not at a public level anyway...possibly champion data might be covering it as an separate one), but in the collective stat "1 percenters". As far as i know this stat covers knock ons, spoils, smothers and shepherds.
  2. Thank you boys... monkey's off the back. Can finally get on with the business of playing real footy under the Roos game style...and working on GCS during the week. And for anyone who may have missed it.... like me at work on a 12 hour bender stuck in Warragul on a broken down coach trying to pick up the call on MMM app on a crap data connection..... YAH FRICKEN HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! P.S. Jones boy & big Dawesy!!
  3. Yeater could play as well as biff. Also, watch the boys fly the flag for Lovell at the 2:45 mark....Hitting in hard and not taking a backward step is what it takes to win big matches, especially finals. Anyone who thinks otherwise should stick to watching netball....
  4. The Northey brigade never took a backward step, went on to win this one and as we all know, played off on the last day in September after beating the Blues in the Prelim the week after...
  5. Yeater stands up. Why i loved this bloke. One of the gutsiest i've seen in the red and blue. Could play as well. Goodwin at least good at a stoush lol.... keogh in there as well... only reserves but we still played with spirit and never took a backward step during this period (first year post swooper)....
  6. I think the boys will be up and about but i still can't see us getting over the line without a fully match fit Dawes (at least 3 weeks away), a 2nd option in Hogan being introduced and Garland slotting in and fully fit. Although, having said that, if everyone plays as a team and puts in 100% over 4 quarters, and assuming Dawes is in for sure....we could finally [censored] victory from a likely defeat here. Not getting too excited but mildly interested in how we perform. Big opportunity to [censored] a win here and possibly a rare one for us this year. I only hope the boys see it the same way as this match will be one between the ears in the 2nd half IMO. Can we finally bury the losing hatchet? Edit: Sn at ch is a bad word? wow
  7. Yep...nicely said. We've been lacking that sort of aggression for decades
  8. I would love to see Tappy come in as our enforcer. Even if he spent 2 to 3 on the sidelines every 3rd or 4th match. We desperately need a heavy hitter in the team. Agree with the line in the sand and i live in hope but i've yet to see it at the Demons since the likes of Balls, Yeater, Wight and Jakovich left other than on one other occasion. The Hawks match where Neita let loose. And Neita match excluded, the late 80s mob was a mighty long time ago. Heck even the Hawks game is going back about 10 years. Love to see it but as Stuie said its been asked for every year for years now. If we can't win games i'd love to see us build a really ferocious team that might be somewhat lacking in amazing skills, but can still transverse the footy quite well and at the same time, literally smash the opposition. Need to at least gain some fear in our opponents somehow as they presently show none when playing us. If we can't worry them on the scoreboard ....well... let's at least hit em hard and make sure they know we aint no pushover by filling the team with mad tough nutz who never shirk a contest and love a stoush It's not the greatest weapon and probably a last resort one, but at this point we have no weapons at all. And for those wondering, no i'm not advocating 80s elbows or king hits behind play. Just ferocity at the ball and ball carrier. And if the carrier is there to be hit.... we hit.
  9. A somewhat maligned player by some under Neeld's reign i think OD. His disposal effectiveness percentage is much higher than most team mates', 2nd overall up to about Round 15 last year (4 matches) as was his tackle count (8th overall). Just doesn't seem to get enough possessions though (30th vs team mates' average) but that might improve with another pre season now under his belt and now some further development at Casey. Could this low possession count also be a case of team mates not really looking for him and instead targeting the usual's like Watts, Howe, Sylvia and Davey last season? Might pick up if this changes. Your review above is some indication that he appears to be heading in the right direction (pardens to Renee Geyer). Might be worth the elevation when possible as some are suggesting mate.
  10. Enjoyed his presence and amazing efforts on the park. Thought he was our great white hope up forward. But alas, another MFC hope dashed yet again. All the best to Mitch and family. I hope life is better whatever and wherever you head from here big fella.
  11. I agree Col. Also i don't think we can afford to carry slow across the ground players any more. There's enough of them in the team already IMO. Adding Toumpas and Trengove (as well as possibly McKenzie?) would turn an already tortoise paced team back into a lead footed one. I'm not sure Blease is the answer but i'd be giving him a few weeks, as well as Clisby and Strauss, before looking again at either Toump or Trengove. Toump is very efficient by foot but both him and Trengove are too slow with their decision making and disposal at this stage. IMO Clisby, if given enough senior game time and faith, should offer more than Strauss, Blease, Bail, Evans, Byrnes, Grimes or Terlich. Although i'm not as negative on Terlich as many here. I think he's a work in progress that still has significant upside if given a fair chance to develop and improve his disposal and decision making at Casey for at least a significant part of this season anyway and another look towards the end in the seniors. He does have a good burst of speed and takes the game on, but... the clangers..and the poise... ughhh. Edit: One thing Clisby would need to have improved on though is his clangers. He was equal clanger king with Terlich last season, followed close behind by Viney, Spencer and Pedo.
  12. OD, if we keep dishing up these horrible performances and you keep turning up at Casey, you might even get a berth in the seniors as sub. Got a trench coat?
  13. Miss it like crazy ....especially in the cauldron at Windy Hill and Pie Park. Good times, Standing on empty 6 packs with the plastic tied back over to see over the heads of the older blokes in front lol. I forgot two other classics, Ray "Biffo" Biffen and Mark "jacko" Jackson. Although i doubt either of them would get much game time with today's rules and tribunal outcomes. The Jacko days, now they were scary lol.
  14. That's because we have no heavy hitters with mongrel in the team Red. Jones boy goes at it pretty and i'll give pencil his dues as he hits pretty hard at the contest, but they're the exception. No one else worries the opposition physically. In addition we don't worry them in the skills department much either. It's a free kick for most clubs when they play us. They can bully us on the ground and they know there'll be no one coming back at them and they'll win as well. With Dawes weeks away, there's also very few leaders out there other than Jones and maybe Cross at this point. Easy pickings Red. What i would give to have Balls, Yeater, Sean Wight and Crosswell running around out there as well as big Carl in the ruck. Fidge and Stinger off the bench wouldn't hurt either. Teams would at least fear and respect us a little, even if we were getting beat.
  15. Thanks for the review guys. Really appreciate it. The 2 names that pop from both of you are Clisby and McKenzie. Might be worth a run through the seniors for a few weeks. I realise Blease is flashy but we really need some run (line breaking and overlap play) and i would be willing to look at him as well for 2 or 3 games and see whether his disposal/consistency has improved at all. We seriously need to move away from the possession obsession seen so far if we're to have any hope of winning a few games. Clisby for Terlich maybe. McKenzie for Evans and Blease for Bail? Probably shuffling the deck chairs but worth a look for a few weeks i think. Although i have't watched today's games (AFL/VFL) so i'm totally guessing on those change ideas.
  16. If he comes in, more than likely Murphy. And i realise Simpson plays of HB but he's often involved in many of their forward thrusts when he gets loose, running hard to create options through the middle. Shutting one of these 2 down will help our cause to some extent and possibly limit the scoreboard damage.
  17. That's correct. The stat that relates to what the poster was referring to Original post from Sassy...... "I'd rather see Nicholson than Grimes, both have shocking disposal, but at least Nicholson is going to run hard and have a fair dinkum crack" end
  18. No it doesn't. You're incorrectly making that assumption. That's why i said ..."if you had to make a choice between the 3 on stats alone (and i realise that doesn't happen)" ie., addressing Sassy's post and recognising the fact that stats are only an indicator of what HAS happened in the past (and sometimes a very poor one), definitely not a panacea for everything on the field or team roles/selections etc. You may well be correct.
  19. Yes but there's elite runners all through the league now Sassy. We need elite runners plus those who can get it or get on the end of it, plus have a decent efficiency level (ie., close to the League average of approx 70% in 2013). Nicholson at around 65% isn't quite up to it (not alone though....read on). Although he may have improved over the off season i'll give you that. In addition he is well ahead of Blease (57%) and Bail (56.8%). If it was between him and Bail i'd say yes to Nicho for sure. Not Grimes though. While losing Grimes to Clisby might be a gain, i'm not sure Nicho for Grimes would be at this point. I could well be wrong though. As i mentioned, Nicho might have stepped things up in the off season so who knows and Grimes may have dropped off from last season.
  20. I would counter that last stat with another very important one though Sassy.... oversight on my part. We need to actually get the ball and players need to know what patterns to run and places to run to where they can be on the end of it as well. Average Effective Disposals (per game) to Rnd 17 Last Season Clisby 17 (Ranked equal 1st) N Jones 17 (1) Grimes 15.7 (3) M Jones 13.9 (5) Evans 10.6 (18) Nicholson 9.1 (19) Strauss 8 (23) Jetta 7 (27) If you had to make a choice between the 3 (Clisby, Nicholson or Grimes) on stats alone (and i realise that doesn't happen) this stat and "effective disposal %" would suggest that Clisby should be considered for a guernsey just ahead of Grimes and a long way before Nicholson.
  21. I would go Strauss, Clisby or Jetta before either Sassy. Effective disposal % up to Rnd 17 Last year was.... Strauss 87.8% (Ranked 1st) Jetta 87.1% (2nd) Clisby 83.2% (3rd) Grimes 74.9% (14th) Nicholson 65.6% (29th)
  22. The worst part is not being able to ever get excited about any game or feel what it's like to actually beat an opponent. Especially the artificial ones like GWS, GCS and Freo. I wish Roosy luck. He would need an absolute miracle with injuries etc from here to find a win or maybe 2 lol I suspect he'll have very little hair left, and what's left will be jet grey by year's end. Poor bloke must be having kittens around about now
  23. The best decision i've made this year, no Foxtel subscription. Not sure i want to watch it. For those who were there or watched it, Is there any light that would suggest i should?
  24. I think that may have been our last chance to win with this current line up. Might change with Hogan and or Dawes back but i can't see us winning a game from here without either of them back and fully fit. What happened to Blease today btw? Just an emergency it seems
  25. Any chance we could get it inside 50 and keep it there for more than 10 seconds?
