So Freo just run players forward as they know they'll win most of the ground ball comtests and just sling shot it with speed via quick hands then the long kick out the back. The only way to counter that is to either win more one v one contests, dont turn the ball over so often and/or play man on man for a while. The latter is something we seem incapable of bringing at all, let alone for 10 or so minutes.

Why would you start Salem in the middle instead of Rivers?? Rivers is a mile ahead in the middle. SG has seriously lost the plot this season for mine.

The speed on this game looks to have gone past Salem in that first half. Hopefully he can bring something to the table in the second.

Playing mostly higher up the field and at CBs. His last month was better balanced playing mostly HF and lessor time in the middle or higher up the ground. He's upped his tackles inside 50 and goals in the last 6 weeks to his usual averages prior to today. We are paying the price inside 50 with poor ground ball gets and poor pressure at ground level inside 50 also in this first half. Robbing Peter to try and get some speed skills further up the field. Hasn't paid off so far.

Bedford by a fair margin for mine. He has a weapon which Chin does not. Chin only has manic follow up pressure (chasing tail) and second efforts which sometimes works and looks good when it comes off. Bedford brings the wheels plus the latter.

Not just goals PF... his around ground play under any sort of pressure is just not up to AFL standard far too often. Occasionaly yes but too little.

When you're forced to swing JVR into the middle so early you also lose structure and your best KF too early. And with Petty in such horrid form you effectively have no KF when he's spending so much time there with Petty being so ineffective at CBs. It's a team and coach killer (self inflicted)

Chin's decision making and disposal is atrocious so far

There's plenty of footy to play but we sure make it hard for ourselves. And the Petty obsession continues 3 months on from the Rnd 5 debacle. Not Petty's fault either. That part's all on SG

Hoyne is always harping on about the turnover game. He claims that of the last 20 premierships, 17 of them were from teams that were ranked in the top 3 on scores from turnovers during the H&A seaaon. According to him (champion data) the other three winners were outliers. I can't recall who the three were.
