  1. In the main this is true CB, however there are some very clever (and/or extremely lucky....or both!) pokie players out there who sometimes win and win quite big at times. And i am talking winnings in the $10k plus region within a fortnight or so on occasions. I agree that most normal punters/dabblers would seldom win though (unless they got lucky on the right machine and the right time once in a blue moon) and some addicts would be selling the farm to fund their addiction. Not good for some that's for sure. The MFC out of it isn't going to stop ppl using those same machines though. Leighoak and the Bentleigh Club will just lease it out to another bidder or take the license over themselves (Bentleigh via new owners IF the MFC divests i mean) .
  2. If they make up the loss i would happily applaud the club Jaded. But i'll believe that when i see the end of year report to members (at least a good 12 months after we have fully divested ourselves of pokies revenue, which might be 2 reports away!)
  3. The MFC divesting their interest will not stop pokies being played by the masses CB. Even if all AFL clubs followed suit. Many humans love to pass the time away on the punt. Be it horses, poker, the dogs, sportsbet (etc etc etc) two up or an illegal [censored] fight. Do you think we will ever ban all forms of gambling right across Australia/society?
  4. Dee i fear we will be waiting decades for that to happen, if it ever does. In the meantime pokie addicts and/or occasional flutterers (like myself) will just go to another venue, including some who will drop their hard earned (or otherwise) at a rival club's venue (potentially). I would like to know how much we are losing from this decision yearly and projected to lose over the next decade and how we are planning to replace the money foregone as a result of this.
  5. I hear u Dappa but JKH has managed to muster a pretty strong lynch mob of his own with no Watts factor involved and personally i felt Watts hand balled the "King of whipping boys" mantle over about 18 months ago! That doesnt mean he wasnt STILL a whipping until his departure!
  6. Sorry but he has been whipped in his own right for quite some time now. Watts had nothing to do with it. No closer to looking like a goer at AFL level than he did 28 matches ago.
  7. Early days but I have yet to see anything that convinces me Weids will be a gun as predicted by Macca a few years back or have a significant impact at AFL level other than a few reasonable camio matches if he gets a run at it. Looks like a potential VFL reasonable quality player but AFL might be a step too far. Maybe this year will prove me wrong. Hope I'm proven wrong as we sure could do with another decent tall forward to assist Hulk or fill in if injured. Lets hope he can begin to show something over the next season or two at AFL level.
  8. Has either player had a full pre-season McQueen? Tim Smith missed I think yes? How about Weids? My vague memory tells me he has I think. Should be better prepared. I would take Tim every time if he had the pre-season behind him. Starting to get a tad long in the tooth now though if we have to wait till 2019 for a full pre-season look at Smithy.
  9. Clever Moon. Wondering if this was a re-hashed lampoon. An old Labor leader / PM comes to mind also ?
  10. Thought u might be chuffing on a big fat Cuban
  11. Mick ain't silly. He knows how to honour an exclusivity contract for XX $$. Mick and Shane may well be sunning themselves on the Maldives this weekend on the proceeds. Sam might even make that his next destination on street talk (the bag man??!!) ...hopefully on a one way ticket!
  12. Are we sure this isnt our very own RPFC?
  13. I agree CBD, oh and in future could we all please work on getting the spelling of his name correct, it's Melchett... MELCHETT!!
  14. Yeh i was in the forward pocket that day and watched Gazza kick a torp goal from just outside 50 on a mud patch. One of the best goals i've ever seen live and a memorable win
  15. Yep been calling a long time. Passionate but it's always a coin flip as to whether his questions are accurate/relevant. I cringe a little whenever i hear him come on but he's also reasonable entertainment value and pretty much the only reg MFC supporter. Although i seem to recall a Dean from Burwood also on occasions.
  16. We are not that far off Rogue. You're saying he is about 15th I'm saying roughly top 10 already. Emphasis on rough as he is so young in his career/development there are going to be a few off matches. Although that's no diff to others on similar game experience I realise.
  17. He is already in our top 10 IMO ... has occasional brain/skill fade but who doesn't. Especially so new to the game. Great spread/ link player and quick thinker/mover of the air conveyance. A very solid outside pick up who occasionaly goes in when needed as well.
  18. I would never blame Nasher. Maybe his servers! :-D
  19. Not an official record but I believe we may have broken another hoo doo. When was the last time the Demons were such a big favorite (both with scribes and the bookies) in a blockbuster game ...and got the chocolates!? Maybe it wasn't that long ago but im thinking back to a fairly big build up to a match against the Toiges in the 90s when Gazza & the Wiz were up and about. Seem to recall a big game build up but we were considered the favourites. The Wiz took a screamer in the forward pocket/flank in front of general members area at one point and we went on to win well from memory. Regardless, even though the Pies fielded a pretty ordinary outfit, we still had a huge mental girdle to break out of on QB and we did it convincingly. We also played at least one quarter of 'finals quality' football in the 2nd. We are a fair way off challenging the top 6 consistently but also not that far off holding our own against anyone from 7 down IMO, provided we have most of those who played on Monday fit & available. Another quality (experienced) mid in next draft would be very handy.
  20. Disappointing fashion sense. Surely white socks are a pre-requisite with those sandles!
  21. D u may well be right. Although some of us may have already mutated after partaking too often in some of these alternatives and might now be immune! Also if you consume enough red (or white or anything with grapes as a base) I'm sure most of the nasty "thingies" would have trouble surviving the massive dose of sulphur dioxide that accompanies such delights! That stuff could kill a rhino depending on the dose
  22. Sounds like the cruise is working wonders! Possibly a tonic for all suffering landers
