Pretty impressive game from Moniz after the first quarter. He's always been handy at ground level. Even in the air, he competes well against taller opponents. Recovers quickly and pressures / tackles well. Provides a solid option on the rebound and chains well. Where he lets himself down is his clangers by foot though. Particularly through the middle. Some of them are horror jobs under not alot of pressure and at AFL level the oppo will generally punish on the scoreboard if you turnover in that part of the ground. He's doing alot right but i reckon the FD would want to see him clean that side up first. Too risky otherwise. He is also being played as a small rebound defender so who is he replacing? We have Bowey about to come back. Surely he gets the nod and is well ahead of Moniz preference wise given his prior cred? Personally if Hunter is playing at Casey i'd rather see him play the Moniz role at times. Give Moniz some reasonable minutes at CBs and stoppages and see how he goes. Pushing forward sometimes as well. Wasted down back and unlikely to get a call up while playing this role at Casey. Moniz is also a pretty good crumber / goal sneak. At least when played up forward anyway. Looks like the FD has other plans though.

Jason Taylor getting some well deserved kudos

I don't like his chances SW but i applaud your optimism. Averaging 1 hit out to advantage per match during his career so far. Albeit on limited minutes but he does play up to roughly 20% time at CBs in some matches. He's ok as a neutralizer chop out but surely not tall enough @193cm to be anything but that? -
You still have three votes left. Fire away mate!

I love how they ignore that crucial fact. And fail to consider it. Combined with the fact we only lost both 2023 finals by one kick.

Maybe it's just me. Is this a female thing? 🤮

Going nowhere for quite a while. Walter looked promising in patches.

It's astonishing. Four umps are unable to see a player fending, having prior and incorrectly disposing on so many occasions. I get they will miss a fair percentage due to having their sight obstructed and so many around the ball. Not expecting perfect outcomes by any means. Mac Andrews just then. It bounces off both of his hands. McCanerny then sharks the spill, claims it as a mark and is paid! Four umps and it happened about 30cm or so above any other players so zero line of sight obstruction. Yet not one ump has the courage to over ride the original decision. Imagine that in a major final or a match that decides if you play in one or not. It's that bad we absolutely should bring in a Captain's call. Give them at least two reviews in a match which only expire if the Captain's challenge is incorrect. Pendle's 45 meter kick on right angles from the middle that was 100% deliberate ...ignored. Razor's explained that rule so many times. If you don't kick straight ahead and you kick off the line towards the boundary and no one is close enough to have a plausible attempt at taking possession... it's a free kick. May have changed the result.

Might wanna rename this the Pooh clash

Brissy, namely Zorko, caught on at least two occasions attempting to fend off. Sometimes breaking the first tackle. Then caught again, drops the ball to his feet yet "play on" is the call. Umps are killing the game and continue to refuse to award good tackles time and time again. Who's teaching them this rubbish!

6. Lever 5. May 4. Mad Max 3. Clarry 2. Windsor 1. T-Mac Very hard to split the terrific trio on the night ... Lever, May & Max

Round 7, 2024 MCG - Demons vs Cats King Clarry returns, stonewall May does it again and a rookie steps up on the big stage! A big statement win fellow minions. The top 6 really gave us a boost with a +16% rating vs the (top 6) 2023 season rating. What a performance given the quality of the oppo. Early days and would want to see a few follow up performances but it would appear the finger operation has had the desired effect with King Clarry turning the clock back, eclipsing his 2023 average rating by 5% against the top of the table Cats for a No.1 result alongside May. Maysie take a bow. What a performance from the champ down back. One of his best ratings in the red and blue. His best ever against the Giants in Rnd 5, 2022 where he posted a 5.675 Not far off that and against a serious contender speaks volumes and 64% up on his 2023 H&A season rating. Lever easily one of our best, if not the best on the night (alongside Maxy), coming in in the No.4 spot. 55% improvement on his 2023 rating. Outstanding. T-Mac. Took the chocolates in the Cameron stoush. Super stuff from our veteran warrior. Not his best rating for the season though. That was against the Lions with an impressive 4.275 Probably still his best for the year though given the assignment and the result where he kept a rampaging Cameron (from previous weeks) to zero goals. Caleb's break out game for those who aren't taking much notice outside of supporters and the four walls? Doubt many imagined him hitting such heights so early in the season. If you did i tips me hat! Let's have a squiz at the numbers from the young colt... 15 Effectives @ 83% efficiency (AFL average approx 74%), 1 mark inside 50, 2 one percenters, 1 clearance, 1 rebound, 3 inside 50s, 6 tackles (One of those the fab, chase down inside 50. Equal best for us alongside Viney & ANB. Atkins the most on the night with a massive 11), 9 score involvements (equal best for both teams alongside Tracc!), 8 intercepts, 309 meters gained, 1 goal and a miserly 2 turnovers. Have to say that is a 'Clarryesque' type performance in his rookie year (obviously in a 'winger role' not in a mid field sense). Maxy, well what can you say that hasn't already been said. Another outstanding Captains game from the champ and although his rating doesn't indicate such i would say right up there with May & Lever as BOG. Certainly close to MVP anyway yes? Can't leave knuckles McVee out either. Posting a rating that's 100% up on his 2023 average is incredible. Including 19 effectives running at 90% and a massive 11 intercepts - the equal 2nd best on the night (Guthrie 11), just behind Lever (12). Bring on the baggers! Moniz named at HF! Hope it sticks

Same but also thought we should've brought him in via Casey initially. He's found some match fitness and getting up the ground to more contests. Solid hit out. Just needs to get the kicking leg going for the conversions and hitting up more targets for a few less turnovers.

Tough call as we only have the 5 days. I'd say more emphasis on slingshot than we did against the Puddy Cats. Against the Cats we were 'mostly' very methodical coming out of defence and rarely tried to sling shot forward. Probably due to our press being quite high and having to wait for most forwards to get back first. If we had the more usual 6-7 day breaik i'd say pull the trigger alot more in an attempt to punish the Baggers on the rebound as they're mostly a sluggish team, bar Walsh. You need to give your forwards some decent 1 v 1 looks and not allow their troops to get back and support their only (VERY) effective tall defender in Weitering. Getting the ball to ground and putting the rest of em under severe pressure at ground level (no Saad) as we did against the Cats. I see the Blues as more of a chaos team that likes to crash / bash out of stoppage, especially looking to get the ball into the hands of Cripps with front exits from stoppage ... and Walsh out the back if that option's not available. Crisp played a bit of a tag at stoppage on Cripps last match, assisted by Shultz et al. Between them, these combos put some effective blocks on to close down his ability to run through stoppage and receive. Worked a treat imho with Cripps having a pretty quiet night by his standards. They also rushed at Walsh wherever they could to try and ensure any kicks forward from stoppage were dirty, making it difficult for the Blues to connect inside 50 with their twin talls. The Blues style reminds me a little of ours in 2022/23 so it's effective but with our experience and talent we can and (usually) should be able to close it down a fair bit and counter on the rebound off HB or out of stoppage ourselves. Just hope the five day break doesn't kill our performance too much. The Blues also coming off two six day breaks yes? This might help even things out a little.

Kudos to the D.A. and crowd in M3. And all other loyal minions who made it to the G tonight. Thought that was one of our best nights for some time with noise levels and chants. Someone towards the front of the D.A. got a little over excited near the end of the match standing on their seat waving flag then slipped off. Pretty bad head injury apparently with ambos everywhere. Hope they're recovering ok this morning.
-
I liked how they kept chanting "boring football, boring" or something to that effect. As they were chanting i was thinking "i'll take this insane defensive effort and possession game anytime if it results in us beating your lot you knuckleheads!" And then we won. A long trip back to sleepy hollow for those nincompoops.

Is he STILL playing?
-
Kozzy has cost us two goals tonight with some awful clangers
-
My kingdom for a KF who can clunk the odd pack mark and kick straight or around the corner goals like shelling peas
-
When you're a right footer kicking from distance on the run.... straight in front... AIM FOR THE RIGHT HAND POST FFS!!!

Chin really struggled in that half. Needs to pick up his ground ball game and defensive positioning on opponent when we haven't got the ball. Moniz should be breathing down the neck of Billings or Chin but is being played out of his usual crumbing small forward / pushing up to the middle (at times) role at Casey. That needs fixing and pronto. Billings needs to lift his intensity in general. That part of his game is a long way off this level.
-
I'll say it again... Tracc up forward for 10 or 15 Kozzy into the middle for same. Sub Billings for Laurie
-
Tracc up forward for a stint for Kozzy to try and shake the tag and get him into the game. Billings off for Chin
