I'm happy to be patient and watch the league evolve. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that. Although sadly I think a lot of people will measure the standard against the men's league and dismiss it prematurely. Which is ridiculous, not because the women have any less talent or potential, but because the men's league has had 100+ years of development, and a wider talent pool due to societal expectations around sport... Just wait til the 5 year old girls of today reach the big time. Anyway, getting excited now and can't wait to cheer the Dees on!

Maybe we'll see her running round for the Dees one day!

Yeah, you can't blame her for being attached to a number she's had so much success in.

Classic Max Gawn Quotes
Dees_In_October replied to Rodney (Balls) Grinter's topic in Melbourne Demons
2016 Brownlow count, Round 19. Gawn is 11 votes behind the leader and gets the 3 votes against Gold Coast. (With some lip-reading) he can be seen confidently telling his teammates, "This is it, I'm coming!" What a legend.- 52 replies

Demons in National Women's League
Dees_In_October replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
So pumped for this! I hope that those who aren't interested in watching the women's game can keep quiet about it, in much the same way that I don't enjoy golf as a spectator sport and yet strangely have never felt the need to broadcast that among its fans. Inevitably people will treat it as a novelty, but we should try to remember how much this means for women who love our game. Also I think the footy community at large would benefit from entering this new competition with a mindset that recognises 'Doesn't look like men's Aussie Rules' does not equal 'Not as good as men's Aussie Rules'. The game style won't look the same initially or perhaps ever, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that- the skill, guts, teamwork and talent will all be there and the rest will evolve with time (and who knows in what direction?), just like it has since we wrote the rules. The fact that I'm already on the defensive about this probably says something... Anyway, I can't wait to cheer on our team and I'm confident we'll be a powerhouse as much as we'll be pioneers! -

Great guests! Looking forward to having a listen.

Interesting. I can't see any of them missing so probably just miscounted?

The team last time Jack played, divided into those still with the Dees: Nathan Jones, Vince, Tyson, Watts, Grimes, Matt Jones, Dunn, McDonald, Pedersen, Michie, Kennedy-Harris, Spencer. And those not: Cross, Frawley, Terlich, Toumpas, Georgiou, Bail, Byrnes, Howe, Fitzpatrick.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH
Dees_In_October replied to e25's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's nice to be able to look back at page 1 of this thread starting in 2010 with Billy as a 14 year old! -
Well it looks like we're all in agreement for once. Is this a first?

How much football have Demonland members played?
Dees_In_October replied to Nasher's topic in Melbourne Demons
Did some VicKick in the late 80s (as it was then known.) Then was steered into sports with more opportunity for girls. Glad those days for young girls are over for good and those that want to and have the ability are able to continue. Who knows what kind of superstar I could have been -
My thoughts throughout the day: Start of the day: A 2-3 goal loss would be a great effort. Quarter time: The world is over. 3 Quarter time: We've got this. End of the game: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! End of the day: What a great effort. I suspect that Demonland followed a similar trajectory?

This is almost the very definition of counting chickens before they're hatched! But good luck to them!

MFC v Adelaide, 1st Qualifying Final 1998

In the first 10 minutes have counted at least 2 deliberate out of bounces and 1 deliberate rushed behind by today's standards... -
MFC v Adelaide, 1st Qualifying Final 1998
Dees_In_October replied to waynewussell's topic in Melbourne Demons
The Wiz! I remember the crowd singing the song walking out of the ground at some point during that season and being amazed at the feeling of success and unity that I had not experienced before. The atmosphere at those games was so good, in some ways even better than '00 because it was unexpected. -
I'm sure it won't be a problem for the rest of the reason
