  1. I'm happy with all of this. I think the spoils etc would make things interesting as well - would be happy to contribute towards the $40 if enough people want it
  2. Things we need to decide on: Starting teams (not sure what you mean) Keep the current category based format or move to the traditional AFL Fantasy scoring If using the current category format are we happy with the current scoring system? (See above) Not fussed - just saw MM's note that there are more categories so will check it out Draft date Not fussed Draft order (Draft style - I propose snake) That's fine Confirmation of rules Are you happy for me to be the commissioner? yes Are you happy to do away with the current keepers and start from scratch? Is this because I finally got Pendles and all the fighting it caused? Happy to do away with it if that's the consensus Something else I'd like to see is being able to choose teams up until the start of the game. With subs being named just before the game and emergencies not named for Sunday games until Saturday I personally think it's a necessity
  3. 2 million people in Western Sydney who probably know nothing about AFL - convert a few percent of them and they'll get more members than we have. 500k people in Tasmania (Although in reality a team would either be based out of Hobart (217K) OR Launceston (106k)) (who already follow football - not a lot of money to be made that they aren't already via TV rights. Bringing a new team into Tasmania won't challenge rugby league. While I would personally love to see a team there and think they deserve one, from a purely business perspective it make more sense trying to break into the GWS market While I work and live in Melbourne, I work for an office based outside of Sydney. Something I find quite interesting when I have my social chats with the guys in the office is that when GWS came about, anyone that followed Sydney (albeit I wouldn't call them die hard supporters - rather they love talking about them when they are winning and most turned off the TV early in the Grand Final this year) no-one who lives in Western Sydney changed clubs when GWS came about - they follow the Swans. However, EVERY one of them that lives in Western Sydney (all of whom either were born of have parents who were born in countries with backgrounds from Soccer playing nations such as South America) switched from Sydney to WSW (and passionately turn up to home games, which they never did due to distance when they used to follow Sydney FC for the sake of following Sydney). Western Sydney were crying out for a soccer team. This was always going to be an easy in for WSW, no matter what the AFL did. The AFL is only trying to get a slice of the action, not dominate the market. They always knew this was going to take time. One thing that WSW has done sooo much better than the AFL is get a highly competitive, successful team from day 1. It irks me still that the AFL let GWS start as the basket case that they did. I would be much more concerned if I was an NRL administrator. This win will have a much bigger negative impact on them than the AFL (and if Melbourne Victory won it there'd be celebrations galore in the city, but wouldn't affect AFL at all in this city)
  4. For a short time I was the all time leading AFL goal scorer according to Wikipedia. I was drunk - trust me it was quite funny at the time
  5. Something that stands out so much watching these video's is how good Robbie was on both sides of the body. Snapping goals from 40 and pin-pointing passes equally well on both feet. What I had never noticed was, while equally good on both sides, seemed to favour the right by foot, and left hand when handballing / bouncing. Clear to see why he was impossible to tackle - his opponent always had to commit no matter which way he was going because he was going to be damaging whichever side he was on. Geez I'd love to see another dees player with 1/2 his skills!
  6. Absolutely idolised Robbie growing up. First 10 years of my life were spent obsessing over Melbourne and Robbie. Still remember one of my most devastating moments as a kid was at VFL park, after he retired - I turned around to look at the media box behind me and there he was smoking a cigarette. I couldn't believe my hero could be doing something so bad. As I smoke my last ciggie for the tonight I'll be thinking of the great man with a tear in my eyes. RIP Robbie - you were and always will be the greatest legend of the club
  7. The AFL should just let us take 1 player of our choice from each of the other 17 clubs
  8. lol sounds like an expensive exercise just to try to get a judge to order Drew Petrie be traded to him. I for one am looking forward to the court case. I'd actually take time off work to go watch it, so please make sure you keep us all informed of dates and times! Not quite sure how someone who is anonymous can be defamed by someone else who is also anonymous, so I'm really looking forward to learning something new and seeing how this pans out! Going to download and watch as much Judge Judy as I can in anticipation!
  9. He always has one hand on his "trophy" - hence so much cream...
  10. I suspected it might have been still available for the app users after I posted - my phone is charging out of reach so haven't been able to try yet Yes he hasn't complained about anything for a few days - he was about due
  11. Are we all locked out from posting on the UF site? I get a denied error message when I try to reply to anything " You have been locked from this action by your league manager. (Error #951)"
  12. [censored] where has the time gone?? I've lost 10 years somewhere
  13. Just 10 years ago the AFL was advertising this type of clash as a reason to see come see the game.... what a farce it is now
  14. Wow I had forgotten how good it feels to hear the song at the end of the game!
  15. I beleive that's correct. I personally wouldn't mind if we were able to make changes up to the first Saturday game so that we could see Sunday's finalised teams (not that it would make a difference this week)
  16. Good to see everyone's extremely happy with their selections and we're all going to win it this year Was a fun night! Good luck everyone
  17. Cannot wait! My work is not going to be happy with my lack of work output today - hopefully my UF team benefits from it...
  18. My keepers: Patrick Dangerfield Jarryd Roughead Harley Bennell Joe Daniher (note I swapped Daniher in for Viney)
  19. Glad to hear you're on the mend! Bit scary to think how well a healthy you is going to do in UF! Am looking forward to this year as well!
  20. Half time? I'm normally out there at the 20 minute mark of the first quarter then down to the bar to drown my sorrows for the rest of the game - hopefully we'll be more competitive next year and I can kick 2 habits
  21. Yes - the same for all things AFL The chances are surely much higher that an AFL footballer would have a son they didn't know about, not a son they did know about but wasn't theirs.... but yes would be very awkward!
