  1. Or the faces you see on Queens Birthday every year, you haven't seen at another match since 2006 wearing their 2006 scarf!!! Mind you I quite like the 2006 version, longer and wider than the last couple of years.
  2. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/questions-raised-on-bailey-20100330-rbgr.html From 2010, I think the coach's box was surrounded by Drake as well. Shorts were The Age and last season Metro Solar.
  3. Aren't Drake the Coach's sponsor or have they moved on?
  4. Renewed my Tridents membership today although dropped the away games, usually get a guest pass for MCG away games and with Geelong being treated as interstate I didn't see the worth this year. Oh and it had gone up $30 or something with one less game, go figure.
  5. Funny you say that, my mum was a mad Geelong supporter and Dad was a lapsed Carlton supporter. Apparently lost interest when Barassi went there. I guess that's rather serendipitous that he became a MFC member 30 years down the track when his youngest son would nag him to take him every week.
  6. I never used to cry after a loss as a kid, that's a more recent phenomenon.
  7. Round 8 1984 v Fitzroy at the Junction Oval, at least that's the one I remember, also have photos which helps. Don't know if that's when I began to barrack for them as no-one else in the family does. That may have been 1985 when I started school.
  8. I'd imagine that there is no Sunday game on Seven that weekend, hence the silly start time. Actually surprised they didn't want to squeeze Deal or No Deal in as well as that seems to be immovable for tennis and racing.
  9. I thought police only had to be called if there was a person injured in a crash, no-one injured no police. Vicroads were there tending to their damaged pole.
  10. The Grand Old Flag: The Histouy of the Melbourne Football Club. Lynda Carrol 1999. There is another reference that it was used again after the 1926 grand final victory over Collingwood, which is now alluded to in the second verse.
  11. The banjo in the old version begins a beat into the vocals, this new one starts from the top. Just sounds too weird to me, different time signature maybe, are the vocals up an octave or a different key? Just seems too different for a clean up. If they want to do anything give the second verse a run.
  12. I'm not the typical Collingwood hater but hope Geelong get up, they were my Mum's team.
  13. My main beef (aside from the I won't take no for an answer tone from telemarketers, and I am too mild mannered for my own good just to hang up) is that the product is aimed directly at MFC supporters. As I understand the situation the club receives money only from bets made with Deesbet, not their parent Betezy, therefore the majority of money made from the arrangement is coming straight from losses of I'd imagine a majority of MFC supporters. Somehow, despite my views against sports betting in general, I'd rather there be a sponsorship or arrangement with a company that doesn't so closely associated itself with the club through use of colours, symbols and name and has a wider customer base. Oh and I was called on my mobile, usually these calls come to the home phone, might have to remove my number when I renew this year.
  14. Just had a call from Deesbet, you know, the betting agency that relies on MFC supporters losing bets to return money to the football club. The sooner we rid ourselves of this insidious sponsor the better. And for the record yes I do have a regular bet on the horses.
  15. I find the suggestion that I am not behind the club abhorrent. I do not diasgree with the appointment, I am not calling for Garry's head, I'm just a little underwhelmed at the decision and perhaps the timing of the announcement. I am more than prepared to give Neeld a chance based on what is done between now and round 1 and thereafter. I don't want to see us in this position again for a very long time. I am already slightly more whelmed (I know) following Schwab's interview on SEN and Neeld's interview on DeeTV. Anyway, I need to put a quaddie on.
  16. I realise this is an unpopular sentiment here but I am a little underwhelmed by the appointment. Happy to become overwhelmed by results over the pre-season and seeing how he coaches. Oh I should add I just missed the press confernence, so unable to make an opinion on that, but thanks for Diablo's summary. Won't make a difference whether I renew my membreship or not as some comments I've read have suggested. I've noticed a few comments reegarding Clarkson being untried, he did coach in the VFL and had premiership sucess in his first year at Centrals in the SANFL, some comments here read as if he were a Tim Watson type appoinment at the Saints.
  17. Or was it rushed following Collingwood's leak. If so The club's made the best out of it.
  18. Link doesn't seem to work. This is the quote that caught my eye from BOM ''We are looking for more grassroots opportunities with our Bank of Melbourne sponsorships, rather than just be aligned with one club,'' the source said. ''We also see AFL football as a national branding opportunity, and want to take on something that is more identified with Melbourne.'' Read more: http://www.theage.com.au/business/st-george-to-drop-st-kilda-shorts-as-too-hot-a-potato-20110909-1k20a.html#ixzz1XzAJFSuG They go on to mention that last summer's scandals and St Kilda's relationship woth Centrebet also contributed to their decision. Personally I think it's a great fit.
  19. There was an article in The Age business section last week regarding BOM and its sponsorship plans. The general gist was that they don't see AFL as their traget market being a national brand rather than a regional brand which BOM is looking to attract. They are not renewing their shorts sponsorship with St Kilda which was sporting the St George brand, which they have essentially taken over. St George to drop St Kilda shorts as too hot a potato I guess is doesn't rule a partnerhsip out, but puts a new light on their ideas.
  20. Terrible game to watch drifting in and out. I heard Darren Boyd mention that Casey used 64 players this season compared to 40 odd for Werribee (partial alignment), that can't help. I don't really support the team but like to see them do well, the body language today from several MFC players wasn't great.
  21. Adults $15, Concession $10, under 15 free. Parking is all on street, but in previous years has been all day so you shouldn't need to worry about getting a ticket, might need to park a few blocks away though. Otherwise, take the 109 tram.
  22. Even on Sunday I still saw MFC supports buying tickets at the ticket windows at the G. Ok not as many as usual, but in such a small crowd it makes me wonder how the 37000 figure is arrived at and made up of. As for being a dual member when I finally get my MCC membership, well it is desireable, but if my circumstances don't allow at the time I would just stick with the MCC.
  23. ABC will televise all games at North Port, so Casey will be on next week. Saw snippets of Fev on the news, looked to be a fairly decent crowd at Casey today.
  24. Was glued to the radio, well done Swans. And I tipped them!!
