  1. Games are won with midfields. Swans, Geelong, Hawks have two large forwards and deep quality midfields. Collingwood have 1.5 large forwards and quality Midfielders... Trade Boyd to a team with need for a large forward who are willing to give up a quality experienced midfielder. Ps not sure why this is on the Taylor Adams thread.
  2. I must have been watching another team these past couple of years! How can anyone who's watched us recently say we don't desperately need the PP??? We need more than one Priority Pick! as unless we trade it for an experienced mid it will have minimal effect in 2014... i.e. equivalent of adding another Jack Viney... NIce in three years.
  3. With a forward line of Clarke, Dawes, Hogan, Howe... its hard to imagine any coach not trying to leverage these players. All about the midfield. Need mids as we are all aware.
  4. I think Jack is the type of player who will rise with the tide (so to speak), as in when Melbourne are up and running he'll be a better player. The intro of Hogan and Clarke next year will lift the intensity of the forward line ( and provide JW with clear targets), the intro of a couple of seasoned mids will lift the intensity in the middle (where JW should play, i.e. on wing). Jack knows he has no more excuses and a rare opportunity to recast his reputation as a quality player under a well respected new coach in Roos... Everything is in place for him to succeed and finally have some of those career defining and game winning moments we all know he is capable of.
  5. Funny moment during Sundays game, last quarter, behind the goals, when the Crowds murmured "Roos, Roos, Roos" and then went quiet again... like out of "The life of Brian". Very funny.
  6. Agree we need a new dynamic on the MFC board, and with that a new President. But to be a successful club we need to forge our own President from our own players, supporters and history. While I don't like Jeff I would also object if people were proposing to draft in Cook or Kernahan for President. Footy is tribal and I believe if you allow the club to be run by outsiders with no real attachment to the Club you are on the slippery slope to "who gives a [censored]".
  7. Passion for the club is the critical element in most of the recently successful AFL club presidents (with a couple of exceptions). I'd prefer G Lyon took up the mantle and emulated his buddies Stynes, Eddie and Brayshaw. A question, what would Jeff Kennett be seeking to get out of running a club he's never has an interest in, and recently advocated be merged with North?
  8. There is a simple and possible cure for Neeld's divisiveness, winning footy games. With Jeff, there'd be no cure, just division.
  9. He's a defanged former Premier trying to eek out more retirement time in the minor celebrity limelight, and he's used up his welcome at the Hawks...
  10. A stretch to lay any credit for the Hawks 2008 flag at Jeffs feet. Reckon the Hawks masseuse played a bigger role. Though I'm sure Jeff took any and all credit he could for "making it happen". And as a far more amusing Pollie once said "a souffle does't rise twice" :-)
  11. Maldon, with Jeff it isn't about which school he came from... it's political and thus more about which schools he closed as Premier, and his self aggrandising bullying style of management and him generally having a history of being a [censored].
  12. Mate, any conversation involving Jeff Kennet is political, his sole claim to fame is as a POLITICIAN... So go mental.
  13. This thread explains exactly why a divisive figure like Jeff would be toxin for this club at this time. Would simply disenfranchise yet another segment of the MFC supporter base, further weakening us...
  14. Neil Mitchell (who I believe is a MFC supporter) has been running an agenda on the board for a while, but lacks the kahonas to put his own name forward. Like so many Melb people in the media (Lyon, Swartz, Mitchell) they are happy to take pot shots but unable to commit like Eddie or whats his name from North.
  15. If we're going to hand the club over to self serving tossers, lets get Gina and Clive in and give it to the highest bidder?
  16. If you read the headline from the AFL ("Kennett considers Melbourne presidency") you'll see his agenda is simply to big note himself by implying the Presidency of the MFC was his for the taking should he be bothered taking us poor saps on... There are actual Melbourne Supporting people capable of improving our club, we simply need to find and support them.
  17. He was partly responsible for one of my favourite all time days, 18th September 1999. Bombers lose the unlosable Prelim by a point, Jeff loses election and ushers in 11 years of labour rule... Sweet. Bully and a bore, you guys might get along.
  18. You know the club is on it's knees when people start grasping at straws like Jeff Kennett as a way forward. Not likely to further fracture the club at all... (eye roll)
  19. Which 4 players would you have preferred we traded/didn't get to keep Morton, Gysberts, Bennell, Pettard? I.e. Pedersen, Rodan, etc... and would it have made any real difference? I think those players were victims of the MFC being behind the trend in development and understanding the game direction (more solid bodies, increased impact), and were also not overly self motivated...
  20. Hey Ben, Since Neeld arrived and asserted his view on our club our recruiting has shifted for the discernibly better. The early draft picks you bemoan him having no time for in Morton, Gysberts, Bennell, Pettard have been replaced by Hogan, Viney, Toumpass, M Jones and Terlich. Which group of players do you believe will reap greater dividends for the MFC from an investment in their development? The older statesmen that Neeld "off sided", who have left the club Moloney and to a less extent Rivers have been replaced by Clark and Dawes. Again which group of players do you believe will reap greater dividends for the MFC? Neeld has taken us backward only if you apply the Rose coloured glasses to those players we've lost, and don't acknowledge the gains we are making.
  21. I think the indicative indication of the direction of our key indicators implies we'll have a better game against Collingwood then previously indicated. I hope this indicates how very excited I am about mondays game. Go Dees
  22. I'd much prefer the AFL look at systemic inequities in the Draw, TV exposure, stadium deals and remove these impediments to us (and other clubs in a similar position) reaping the rewards and thriving when we get the team and footy right... Sometimes if you take the hand out you can start believing you are a cripple... and then the cycle rolls on.
  23. Wouldn't say no to an AFL free kick. But it's a myth that our good players will be taken by other clubs under free agency. With a young list we have more cap / cash to spare to equal any deals and our recent recruitment of Clark and Dawes indicate we are actually capable of beating other clubs for the services of players we want (I.e. beating Freo for Clark and Carlton (?) for Dawes...). The media want to paint us as a hopeless and irredeemably bad case who are on a cycle of decline leading inevitably to our Fitzroy like exit from the AFL. I think this is rubbish.
