I I'm the same. I am fully invested in all our players but with the understanding that it is now "here today, gone tomorrow".

no fear of that happening. The only thing that can fail for Trengove is his body - not his application.

It was the paper quoting GWS. Call it what you like but there is something definitely "fragile" about McCarthy. Compare him to Trengove. Injured for the best part of two years, almost shipped off to Richmond. Does nothing but knuckles down and gives it his best shot at making it back. I do agree that players have more power than they have ever had but not all - if you are a free agent then definitely, Not that I like the game of "Chicken" but with Hogan, if he wanted to leave and go to Freo - either Freo would have to meet our demands or Hogan can agree to our terms or if there is a complete impasse and he wants out and we want play ball he would have to take pot luck in the draft ( although we are disadvantaged by this). It is a rarity that players sit out because they didn't get to their destination of choice. However it is now a rarity that if players truly wants our that the trade is not done. The players that don't have power are the fringe dwellers - Ro Bail - thanks for your efforts - contract expired - see ya !

One of the papers suggested that there were issues mid year and were working with him.
-
So when GWS reported that they were aware and working with McCarthy's issues during the last year that didn't really cut any sway with you ? As far as you are concerned he has just thrown a fit because he didn't get his own way ?

Went to a great gig yesterday - Billy Miller has released a new album called "Australia" - love the album ( hate the title ). He played the album start to finish yesterday and was ably backed up by Bill McDonald, Johnny Annis, James Black, Rebecca Barnard and his son, Eddie. He wrote a couple of songs with Paul Kelly ( in a rain delay of the cricket !) so Paul Kelly was also on stage with him and sang. The second set was him doing some of his stuff from yesteryear including stuff from "The Spaniards" - he had Mick Peeling singing with him. ( also saw John Butler Trio on Saturday night - the man is a genius)

Not sure which game it was - but watching Paul Hopgood - I don't remember him being that good but he was really really good in the game they replayed
-
I have seen John Fogarty a few times of recent and he gives great concert - he still sounds the same as he did in the 70's
-
Again, revisionism at its very best. It is just another player that went later in the draft that turned out much better than our pick.

I was talking to a couple of mates who read similar boards of their own teams and you could actually just substitute players names from the other clubs and write the same reports. There is the same caution taken with the slightest niggles with their players - where you may take a risk with a player getting through a game where you need to win that game - this is preseason - the slightest niggle and you sit the player out - this is the no risk time of the year. We just need to avoid anything major - I notice that the Hawks lost Roughy this week - this is what we need to avoid.

maybe so but can Usain Bolt not take a mark like Dawesy...hmmmm

You mean no pressure on a kid like this little gem from Tom Rockcliff re Josh Schache “If you had of been up here on Friday and seen our trial match I would have given him a 15-year contract,” Rockliff told SEN radio. “I don’t want to put any pressure on the kid, but he’s as good an 18-year-old player as I’ve seen.”

Pretty simple the club must show an upward trajectory - important for most players. We have been a basket case for so long - it is little wonder players wanted to move on. In my mind we are now stable and poised to continue to improve. We must win more games. meet financial demands - that is in our own hands and I don't believe that will be a problem hope the go home factor is not a factor - all noises being made is that he is happy here - I take that at face value.

T Can I apply for the job ? -
I stand corrected - but I now question how they measure 1%ers - not because of the Hogan stat but because of the Pedersen stat. My eyes tell me that this part of the game is Dawes strength ( all too often the only part of his game) and he has it all over Pedersen in this area - I looked up the definition of 1%er's and to summarise -knock on, spoil, smother, shepherd, chase, hurry, bump , block. Does this sound more like Dawes or Pedersen ?
-
I enjoy the Dawes/Pedo debate. I think we all agree that we need better than both. Pedo's best is better than Dawes but he shows it less than Dawes - As Rjay alluded to - Pedo is a bit lazy and goes missing for great chunks of the games. Dawes never reaches any great heights but works harder than Pedo and is constantly competing and bringing the ball to ground - I love that if he cant get the ball cleanly he still tries to impact the contest by bullocking, blocking, shepharding, harrassing. The trouble is that you can't base your entire game around 1%'s - at some stage as a key forward you have to take marks and kick goals and Dawes does not do this enough. We need the likes of Hogan - he doesn't do 1%er's - he doesn't need to because he 99%ers are so damn good.

Why are rewarding this behaviour by giving them a holiday ? Wouldn't banning them from the site be more apt ? oh wait.....scrub that...

He retires, gets offered a decent amount of money to play for year - it would have been in excess of $200K - there is not a reason in the world to say no. ( the moral ground doesn't exist any more - those who were found guilty are being punished and have done or are doing their time ). Good luck Russian. Play well except against us.

Picket, if you love Wines then set him free, if he comes back and plays for the Dees then he is yours, if he stays at Port then he never was......
