I have spoken about my ire when polly's talk about their " mandate". I specifically commented that a mandate isnt a mandate until you win both houses and therefore you can pass your legislation without obstacle. If there are obstacles to passing legislation such as not having numbers in the senate then to my mind you clearly dont have a mandate. Having said that - polly's bandy the word mandate around if they get a one seat majority in the house of reps ! What I would like to know is whether Greg Hunt who champions the use of the word "mandate" believes that this Government had the mandate to break numerous election promises in the budget ?

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
nutbean replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think also there is a fair amount of scepticism and discontent on the injury listings and how long a player will be out for. I have little doubt that they put in either optimistic return dates or at worst, return dates for a recovery that all goes to plan. As we know, not all injuries follow a pre prescribed schedule and some just dont respond as they should. I don't lose a minutes sleep over the accuracy of the injury list and take it purely as a rough estimate. And OD - 100% spot on - we need everyone of good players up and about as we just dont have enough of them -

In come the dollars and in come the cents to replace the pounds and the shillings and the pence. Be prepared folks when the coins begin to mix on the 14th of February 1966. Clink go the cents folks clink, clink, clink. Changeover day is closer than you think. Learn the value of the coins and the way that they appear and things will be much smoother when the decimal point is here. In come the dollars and in come the cents to replace the pounds and the shillings and the pence. Be prepared folks when the coins begin to mix on the 14th of February 1966.

As I said above - i have never felt so comfortable in the knowledge that we have a coach who knows what he is doing. Every player is a 1st year player for me. Roos will decide who gets to be a 2nd year player.
-
Correct but I have seen enough of Roos and his plan to give me comfort that he knows what he is doing. It is a long time since I have been able to say that about a coach. So if he see something in Jetta or Bail or anyone that maybe I dont then thats great. But yes - there will be movement at the station at the end of the year
-
I agree that Bennell didnt find the ball enough but the only time he did find it when he was a defender was as a "receiver". He ran off and got a handpass or chipkick ( rarely a hard ball). Thats what i would like added to Nev's game. More two way involvement.

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014

Thanks for that. Summed it up perfectly. Having said that - reputations aside , even if they completely botched the diagnosis and treatment no one on here without access to the "files" would have any idea whatsoever. Just irks me that an injury doesn't go the way we would like and automatically it has to be dodgy medical/fitness staff. -
GWS player arrested on a raft of charges for assault

Or the worst of all - the ex-wife kiss - (I got rid of her for a reason) -
Here's my thinking. I unfortunately believe that we had coaches/football departments that had no idea on how to establish a culture of excellence ( or a path to excellence), on setting goals and expectations and no idea how to develop or bring out the best in the players. It is early days but I believe ( and hope) that that is exactly what we in place now with Roos, Jackson and Co. Therefore everyone this year got a clean slate from top to bottom. Anyone who Roos cleans out at the end of the year is because he believes there is little upside in the player. Good enough for me. Has Bail improved ? Yes. Has Pederson improved ? Yes. Has Jetta improved ? Yes. As have others. There are some kicking the ball at Casey who have probably improved on what they doing for the senior side last year. There are some that just cant get on the field because of injury. Have "they" improved enough to stay on the list next year. Its a certainty ( because we have to ) that some will get chopped - thats up to Roos.
-
I am a little more optimistic. I see this year as ground zero and wiped all that went before. I have seen improvement in various forms from many and I don't put a ceiling on it. I am sure Roos and co will decide at the end of the year who is "done" and who isn't. My non logical self tells me that the likes of Bail do something that looks "elite" - once a game or every two games. So my non logic self asks - can the likes of Roos and co bring this out 4 time a game - 10 times a game - a complete half ? the whole game ? every game ? The realistic answer is - whole games ? every week ? no... but I am willing to give every player time to prove me wrong until Roos says "sorry lad - your done and dusted".
-
Nice package - to be honest - every package of every draftee looks really good. Having said that, you can absolutely see what Roos is doing on getting them defensively right. I am just making the point that I am looking forward to seeing a bit more offense from players and Nev is one of them. Interestingly I have seen Ro Bail run hard forward of late in patches - nice to see.
-
Agreed - I have heard Roos say defense first and then offense will come. I applaud his defensive efforts. Even before Roos came besides one game and a couple of cameo's I haven't seen Nev being particularly offensive. Looking forward to seeing it - thats all I am saying (chap)

No doubt that fitness/medical staff push the limits. I have no doubt because fitness/medical staff have said this. They play footballers 80% fit and hope to run them into fitness, players with niggling injuries play with them in the hope they dont get worse and players get jabs to mask the pain. However you can line up every Demonland poster and their immediate family and let them comment on the medical treatments - their insight is the same as yours. Without intimate knowledge of the player, his presentation, the exact nature of an injury and the recovery and rehab program given - they like you, are absolutely guessing with no insight whatsoever. We have a couple of medical professionals on here and even they have stopped short on offering concrete opinions - why do you think that is ? We can debate if Watts is going hard enough, if Bails disposal is improving and whether Jamar taps to advantage because we have lots of concrete vision and evidence to form an opinion. I am not sure you understand that when it comes to medical treatment none of us have enough information to even cast an opinion ? -
Shoot me for saying this but if he can get 15% Bennell into him he would immeasurably better. Jetta does all the really hard stuff well but needs to get some easy ball and thus get involved. Bennell didnt do much hard stuff but looked good getting into space.

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014

common sense - I disagree with every thing you have said Tell me exactly which medical records, rehab programs and exactly what each footballer told medical staff on examination and then you may be taken seriously. It is not common sense - it is your frustration at injuries that occur and some that don't respond to treatment as you would like. You have zero insight as to how players present and are treated. Your common sense is more " I am not getting the outcome I want when it comes to injuries therefore someone is to blame". -

wow. just wow. exactly how do you know this stuff. Serious question - do you have any medical background ? Just interested. (I'm tipping proctology because I am seeing a pattern as to where you pull a lot of your comments from) -
If you watch the goals package, if McKenzie had 30 disposals he must have had 30 goal assists - he is involved in every one of them. I know it is a step up from VFL to AFL but just from that package you can see he has got some "cheapies". That is the biggest knock on McKenzie - defensively and shutting down - he is good - but does not involve himself enough outside his defensive role. He looks from that 3 minute grab to be pushing forward and spreading.

Not for me thanks. I will have no man at our club that goes to zagami's. A real culture killer. -
I read it on here. ( must be the truth then...)

I also asked about his best position. He said a bit more engine and muscle needed and he is a genuine mid. I said he may not have genuine speed but has all the moves. he nodded and said "of course he has the moves - at his size, if he didn't he would be dead by now"
