And kick the pill to who?? The endless amount of team mates who spread for him? I'd rather him kick down the line 55m for a 5% chance of a mark then kick it sideways/backwards for a 5% chance to retain it. No one has ever brought up his kicking ability before and he is easily still one of the best kicks in the team. It's just this year the options when he has the pill have dried up.

I must completely over rate some players after reading some of the comments in these threads for those people who think Daisy is soft and the Col is not needed. I wonder what he really has to do to earn the respect of some people here, it sounds like anything under 30 touches and 5 goals is not good enough. Let's all agree that he is never going to be that star player, he will never win a brownlow and he will probably never win a coaches award for being the king of 1 percenters like our Jordie continually does. Also, he is not a leaders boot lace but that's not his fault. Some people are born with it, others aren't. Why should be try turn him into one?? Memories of Brad Green flood back. He is a genuine HFF who has stints on the ball, ala Chappy or Stevey J and no I am not putting him anywhere near the standards of those two but his position should be similar 75% in the forward line with a chop out on the ball. Maybe if the ball was forward a bit more we would see some more Col action. Now from the half way mark last year (and after coming back from a big injury pre season) he averaged 22 touches and a goal a game which I don't think is to bad in a team that was complete filth. This year, removing the Essendon disgrace and noting our team is even worse than last year he is still averaging 20 touches and a goal. This is his limit and I don't know why so many would be happy to see a player getting these numbers leave. Most will say that he is continually kicking long to no one which watching, yes I agree, but also from being at the games he has stuff all options to kick to, we all agree there is no spread and without Clarke or Dawes I'd probably rather kick it to an opposition player than Sellar as well. We continually cry out for decent grade mids and the one player we have with some talent people are happy to see the back of.

Very harsh on Daisy here labelling him a link man. Yes he did float across half back picking up 'cheapies' in the game a couple weeks ago where he racked up 30+ touches but there is no way in the world he is just an outside player or 'link man.' I'd invite you all to watch the 2010 drawn final against the Saints so you can see how hard he really can be when it's required.

I love the Scott boys passion for there teams and very envious of it honestly. I hope he goes right off and believe some of the decisions against the roos warrants this. Watching the game I really didn't care who won (really only watching for supercoach reasons) but DemonWA, you summed it up perfectly here. I guarantee those umpires will be walking off the ground smiling and having a laugh thinking what a great finish that was. They were clearly be sucked in by the atmosphere and wanted to be a part of it. The mark Black took as well that was called 'touched' was a real shocker as well.

Wow the Selwoods drive me crazy the way they drop the shoulders ins contest for a free kick. Its borderline cheating

They looked so confident against Essendon and wanted to take the play on! No wonder so many of us were getting ahead of ourselves, there was so much to look forward to. I was there that night with three mates who follow the bombers and I remember leaving and they were all talking about how we are surely to become the next AFL powerhouse! Was so exciting with goal hungry forwards like Green and Jurrah (I mean goal hungry in a good way and how you want your pocket/flankers to be) we had an awesome up and coming midfield with Gys absolutely starring that night, Moloney smashing through walls and what about Trenners hanger! Where did that come from? WHERE DID THAT GO???? Thanks for the posting of these videos, reminds me why I have such a sick obsession with this club

Just read the article on afl.com where he says he wants to get into coaching. A champion player and would surely be something for our kids to look up to as a coach somewhere but could we get him as an assistant first? Would love someone with a bit more experience in that role to work with Black. Maybe I'm a little crazy but I think Voss is cooked at Brissy so I would love him as our midfield coach working with Black?

Everything at Roos.... EVERYTHING! I'll even pay what I can. And for something completely unexpected, how about Voss as a midfield coach. Was one of the best, played in and amongst the best. Won't be around Brissy much longer and I would never suggest him for the head spot but as a midfield coach alone I think he would be ok

I want us to bring back Beamer and a fit Gys so we can at least get 50 possessions a week closer to our opponents. I then want Riv back as we miss his leadership more than ever. I don't think some people here know how much he was loved by his team mates and how most were devastated at him leaving. I finally want Jordie Mac to become a tackling beast again. What happened to averaging 7 a game like you did two seasons ago? Hmm... sounds like I want Dean Bailey back.... and that's saying something

Interesting no Davis for Tom. Would have thought its his perfect chance

When I first saw Pedo I was disappointed in his height figuring he isn't big enough to ruck, barely key forward. Not sure what the stats say but he looks shorter than Dunn. He does have a decent leap but and one game (prob GWS so not sure if it counts) he showed he has ok hands to clunk a mark. I still think it's hard to judge a forward playing for us at the moment with: a) The complete lack of supply & B) The low level of that supply I would like to see how he would go playing back assisting Frawley as Tommy Mc is useless defending bigger bodies when the ball is in the air. Maybe Pedo could take the job as the gorilla minder. Hannath had I think one mark against the Tiges and not many more against GC. I think we can let that one slide and not worry too much. Apart from looking like a giant pray mantis, I'm not sure what Fitzy would offer to the seniors. Maybe he just needs to clunk a couple to get his confidence up and who knows. I suppose the issue is that without Jamar, Spencer must play. Then Gawn gives the chop out for the 25% that Spence rests. Dawes remains deep/CHF at all times and doesn't ruck. The whole rucking issues nearly ruined him at Collingwood and I imagine they won't want the issue to happen here. Fitzy can only play that chop out role that Maxy is playing now as from what we have seen he isn't a first ruckman and he isn't good enough to get a game as a key forward solely. The only spot he can play is the one Maxy is in at the moment and so far, big Maxy on the park is one of our few shining lights for the year.

You can never have enough class and I rate Daisy (and would love him in the red and blue next year) but surely Carlton would be chasing a KPF before chasing another mid. Waite can't be relied on with his body deteriorating and his brain fades. If there going to leave Hampson/Rowe there at least the 'three amigos' will have a lot of crumbs from fumbled marks. If you were a mid with the pill running forward you would be better of to kicking it along the carpet instead of in the air.

What's with all the love for Hannath? I think Pedo has shown as much as Jack has in there couple games which isn't a great deal.

I couldn't understand this either. At one stage it was McKenzie shadowing Murphy and Dunn on Judd which left Jones the only player out of the three trying to get the pill. End result was 1 vs 3. Understand that defence is a big factor in winning, but it's this over defensive mindset that really frustrates the hell out of me. I want to see some players trying to win the pill first and worry about defending their player later. We seem to be so fixated on stopping the opposition rather than beating them. That will never win us games. Off topic a little, I listened to Matty Elliott make a speech once about figures who motivated him the most during his test days. Surprisingly with all the great leaders around he said that Mark Waugh was the most influential on him through his positivity. During a test vs South Africa, Donald & Pollock were all over him and mouthing off. Elliott walked down the pitch after getting struck and said, "Don't know what to do Junior, he's all over me." Waugh simply smiled, tapped a bit of turf down and said "Just take him on maaaate. Just take the [censored] on." It's this attitude I want to see, not this fixation on defense. I enjoy listening to Cameron Ling, seems switched on and would be respected from the get go. Get him on board please, anyway, anyhow

I have been watching footy flashbacks of 2000 QF and have built up so much belief and confidence for today's game now. Wow this could hurt later

I like this piece of your post a lot. Still reminds all how important a quality midfield is. Martin and Deledio are really good players and Cotchin is great. It's with this the likes of Houli, Edwards and Houli can lift a notch also. If these last three were picked up by us they would also struggle and look useless. But when they are the 4th, 5th & 6th best midfielders they are mutton dressed as lamb. It really scares me the lack of quality, experience and depth in our midfield. Is it wrong I am already counting the days again to draft/trade/free agency time?
-
I'm not sure how you can say our midfield would not be better without Moloney. Other than last year when he was clearly disenchanted he was our number 1 midfielder and solid player. Long term I hope Viney will be a lot better player but who knows. Right now imagine it should be Viney / Matt Jones / Toumpas rotating through the midfield next to both Nate Jones & Moloney doing the heavy hitting. Would protect there young undeveloped bodies and help them build confidence instead of throwing them to the wolves so early, destroying there confidence and seeing them come footballers with an apathetic attitude after being continually flogged.

I bought in to the 'Neeld way' at the start of the last season but after he dumped Brent and Riv especially I knew we would be in trouble. Riv especially, not for just his solid (not awful, not champion like either) on field performances but he was a loved figure amongst the players group and was seen as spiritual leader. I spoke to two players randomly in the off season that I saw randomly and both said they loved Riv and were really upset to see him go. I still don't believe the players have the actual 'buy in' to his game plan either as there is no way in the world we are as bad as we are playing. We were absolutely dust on the weekend.
-
Simple question for all. If Beamer was say at Brisbane the last few years and came up as a free agent in similar terms, would Neeld have chased him? Yes, Brent, he is a simple crash bash player, yes he loves kicking the pill long to no one in the forward line and yes this may make him a one trick pony but for goodness sake, its a trick we need right now more than anything! If he's the secondary midfielder behind a Pendles or Cotch he cops a secondary tag (unlikely) and he can do his thing with a lot less pressure. Good teams with a simple midfield setup blocked Brent out of the clearances as it was the easiest way to beat us and they new we had no one else who could win it for us out of the centre. So of course he played ordinary against good teams, he's just an honest B grader who was trying to carry a team. And he wasn't always ordinary, your examples above RN are great but I remember watching a nearly 40 possie game against the Magpies on QB once. That was handy.

I went to the first three but couldn't get there Sunday. Instead I watched the game from the local over a few pots and parma. At three quarter time I was just about to leave when the girl behind the bar brought me out another drink. I said "Thanks but I am fine, I am actually out of dosh for the day" to which her response was, "You looked like you're about to cry at three quarter time, so we (the bar staff) thought we would shout you one." Anyway's, didn't jag her number but we did jag a win. I'll take that

Its not fitness. Its the want and desire they have which we don't have. Half our squad have it the other half are just apathetic

Loving Max Gawn
