Welcome to Friday’s Festival of Footy. Hopping a cloven hoof can spoil the party somewhere between the kennel and the ‘g. To re-assure those on the outer limits of the Demon periphery (eg. Milwaukee’s finest) Gerry and your correspondent are ringside at the TJ Whitten oval (virtually) resplendent in the afternoon sunshine sitting in deckchairs. Is that an omen? We’ll have to wait and see. Go Demons!

A few 'observations' if I may from WCW's videos this AM. 1. T'was a lovely brisk morning in Old Melbourne town. 2. Tommy Sparrow has learnt his lesson and after an 'appropriate' timeout wishes to be re-admitted to class. 3. During the kicking drill those that failed to hit their target were required to do five or so push ups. Bring back old school master Mr Blight and have the recalcitrants do push ups "live" during game time. Humiliation builds resilience or was that avoidance? 4. Jack Viney gave the #3 guernsey a new cachet. Takes no prisoners on field or at training. 5. That WCW be nominated for a Walkley award for services to Footy photo-journalism. To go with her other 'gongs' and her backstage pass.

Ed's choice 70's Rock 'n Roll anthem absolute Bowie classic. Rather 'hear' that on the 'G PA than being aurally assaulted by Hell's Bells or whatever else is going around . One match at a time "We can be heroes just for one day". * Any folk interested in the song's genesis go here https://www.bowiebible.com/albums/heroes/

Sunday September 18th 1994 was a grand day at the footy. Garry kicked a lazy ten, David Schwarz running amok, two goals and twelve marks, Glenn Lovett delivering the Sherrin lace out at will. Bulldogs sent packing, back to the kennel with their tails between their legs. Woof Woof

Mono he appeared much more comfortable this game than his Casey Demons debut. 7 tackles indicates he is willing to get his hands dirty and apply defensive pressure to his opponents. 8 disposals seems like a limited contribution but he probably had a lower ToG% than most. He was covering space forward of centre, HFF? Two scoring chains he was prominently involved with resulted in Casey goals. When he gathered the ball and burst thru the pack to deliver a composed foot pass to Will Verrall. That was a match highlight. Looks physically bigger than Dad, covers the ground well and he appears to have a fair portion of the Yze footy IQ. Will need to wait to see if he has any of Adem’s X’ factor. IMM a definite father son prospect.

Emotions were running high after the Casey capitulation. (Lucky there's an edit option). Lachie may well be enjoying his golf more next season, but Ollie Sestan will play on IMO. Tom Sparrow actually looked like an AFL level player, his presence in the centre square and around the packs set the tone and was most impactful up to 3/4 time. Doubled his usual statistical output with 31 disposals, nine clearances and nine tackles. Including a powerful run down tackle, where he absolutely decked a bloke and surprisingly received a free kick. Oliver Sestan played the understudy not as prominently or as consistently as the Sparrow midfield bull with 21 disposals and 3 tackles and 3 clearances. He may have spent more time up forward. Where he took a couple of marks on the i50 at the start of the last quarter. But was a little tentative, inexperienced and attempted to pass off rather than go for the shots. Put the slipper in rather than full blooded boot. GWS juniors mimicked the *seniors by sweeping the ball down forward with hand passes and accurate foot passes for a mini-tsunami of goals to kill the game off. Sestan and Jefferson have both exhibited encouraging vignettes of their footy ability, but both players need to build consistency and take their opportunities to get to the next level. As Albert Einstein once wittingly observed with his Success in Life Equation: A=X+Y+Z Success equals work, play and Z? (keep your mouth shut).
