  1. As it may have been said rjay “if you remember the seventies you weren’t there”. (We were on delay downunder). It was after all at the Reefer Cabaret. But a memorable Melbourne debut nonetheless. Here was a weird and wacky kiwi mob unlike any band l’d previously experienced. Theatrical, high camp and atmospheric. The amateur costumes and makeup gave the performance a distinctive cheap pantomime appeal. Noel Crombie’s centre stage antics under the spotlight with spoons was a highlight. Tim Finn piano and Phil Judd guitar led the on stage ‘choreography’ which gave Split Enz’s movements a disjointed marionette-like appearance. Add the highly original musical score and the legendary light show it had us all enraptured.
  2. Bull’s Union agrees members are now resorting to extreme measures.
  3. Ai says that’s a 99.9% probability Roger. Signed for Casey this season as is Tairon Ah-Mu. So the front row and full back positions are covered.
  4. Of course pre-carnival form on the track will need to translate to actual manifold performances in the reale season. May his tyres remain pumped up in spite of the 3 H’s Hubris, Hyperbole and Hysteria.
  5. Is Malcolm Blight still selling Noel's caravans to grey nomads?
  6. Wow! Blown away Six6Six. The image sequence of Xavier Lindsay along the boundary line was superb. Pump up the volume can’t wait for the season to start! Thank you for sharing.
  7. Fear not picket Thomas to the rescue.
  8. After reading GW's post I'm better informed. So decided to withdraw my post.
  9. picket after Captain Kirk, Lady Penelope , Colombo et al, a training report must be in the pipeline.
  10. Meanwhile out at Casey Fields.
  11. Indeed a talented musician who went onto deserved success with Crowded House. Phil Judd’s road since the split with Spilt Enz has been more rocky. A talented artist whose work included the cover of the band’s first release ‘Mental Notes’. But some serious personal challenges too.
  12. rjay heady days indeed. Co-incidentally l was reflecting last week about Split Enz on another forum. About their very first gig in Melbourne at the Reefer Cabaret. Totally different vibe to the Matthew Flinders. The last video features Phil Judd from the original lineup.
  13. Rest assured the DL launch team are working round the clock to resolve the ‘backwash issue’.
  14. Lord! Picket take your time. Upon your return at great expense to the management. We’ve got the DL ‘Tardis’ on standby for your personal use.
  15. As picket's announcement appears imminent. My breakout-players; 3 Luker Kentfield Considering he never has had a pre-season. Luker is now entering his third season with the club. After some tantalising glimpses at Casey last season, despite his earlier serious illness. The 'buzz' is now palpable, internally he is highly regarded. A debut season with some serious intent. 2 Andy Moniz-Wakefield After a promising debut in '24, was cruelled in '25. This bloke must be straining at the leash. With an opportune back flank/pocket position vacancy. A seasoned body is now ready to fill the void. 1 Ricky Mentha Junior Admittedly a long shot, this young fella's got some x-factor about him. If he can add a 'tank', improve his strength, plus gain some consistency about his game. His development could curve exponentially for a surprise debut.
  16. With Richo’s obsession for keeping the Casey Field’s urinal and the transportable reserved for ‘official use’. Penetrating the chainlink and barbwire for a training report will take indeed take superpowers. ‘Le Freak’ better known to DL insiders as picket fence, “your mission should you choose to…”
  17. Austin is still playing footy. Last season with Jabiru Bombers in the NTFL division one competition. Who completed the season undefeated with a drought breaking premiership. Cyril Rioli making a comeback to local football kicked 3 goals for the bombers in the GF.
  18. Tim Lane’s narration tops it off I reckon layzie. Authorative and nuanced might describe his contribution. Always rated him on radio, TV and print.
  19. DZ there is a sequel ‘VFL on Film 1946 to 1982’. You’ll be happy to know there is due deference given, with a chapter titled ‘Demon Dynasty’ (Seven sequential Grand Final appearances). Now where have we heard that previously?
  20. Duke Kahanamoku 1912 DC a most perceptive observation. Duke must have left his in the wash.
  21. Get the man a gig at the Brill (Building) He’s no dill…
  22. Roll the credits the Australian Film Archive and many others participated in the doco’s creation. Bruce Andrew some will remember him from ‘World of of Sport’, is a contributor of note. Aside from the footy l loved the use of contemporary events to provide context.
  23. Just to let folk know Rhettrospective have uploaded a mega feature length documentary, VFL on film 1909 - 1945 onto YouTube. Congratulations to all concerned, Rhett Bartlett with Tim Lane narrator. Splendid viewing so far with some terrific footage.
  24. To find the answer for that question Picket you may need commune with the Demon Spirit at the Casey Fields Reservation. Feathers might fly with Jai 'Cochise' Culley searching for a breakthrough, Captain 'Jefferson' Parmenter leading the young forwards forward and Kentfield the smokey!
