  1. Gil’s apparently booked him and the JB’s for his final farewell appearance as the outgoing AFL CEO at this year’s National Draft Ball. Highlight of the evening will be a medley of JB originals as a tribute to Gil’s career and contribution to footy. Songs believed to be in the medley selection include “Papa Don’t Make No Mess”, “It’s a Man’s Man’s World”, “Please Please Please” and as the finale a stirring rendition of “Give It Up Or Turnit Loose” * James Brown was unable to attend the recent AFL Draft Combine but this exert of his highlights video got industry recruitment insiders excited. As his agility testing was literally thru the roof blitzing Jimmy Krakouer’s long standing record. * “Hot Pants” and “Sex Machine” were considered but not included as these numbers were deemed inappropriate for this audience.
  2. Kynan Brown’s debut as the work experience kid at Casey this season gone was nearing auspiciousness. After kicking one goal, fluffed his lines on a second certainty, kicking to the left side of the goal post. Virtually on the goal line under perceived pressure rather than an opponent breathing down his neck. Suggesting an ‘excitable nervousness’ got the better of him. Dad Doggie was not the most polished player going round but never took a backward step. Young Kynan did not appear overawed on his Casey appearance and seemed to be a deceptively solid build for his age and inherited physique. More tyro Weimaraner than Whippet.
  3. Overcome the BS, scale the heights and take the flag with resolve.
  4. I was once told by a member of the legal profession when all else had failed there was still ‘karma’ turned out to be true.
  5. For those wishing for a bit of local colour. The adjacent island of Nusa Penida has the Pura Dalem Penetaran Ped temple, within which there is a shrine for a Balinese Demon. It is amongst other things a place of pilgrimage for those seeking a safe return journey. Serendipitously for the man rescued Goody was there. An offering at the temple may be in order.
  6. AMW’s Category B classification? Can eliminate the first possibility played his junior footy with Nightcliff FC in the NT AFL. Although he may have given rugby league a go for a time as a number of kids do in the top end. There is a sizable East Timorese community here in Darwin and Moniz fits the family name profile. A mate coached him at Nightcliff in a premiership season. Praised him for his determination and football talent. If he has the appropriate work ethic and opportunity with luck goes his way would love to see him get a guernsey. Has a serious hint of X factor but needs to be more consistent IMO.
  7. So it’s Curtain’s for Caddy…
  8. Is Deep Thought pondering the Kye Turner conundrum too?
  9. Pleased to see a groundswell of backing the young bloke has emerged. Those members of the geek chorus who seem too ready to shout half-arsed ill informed inanities from behind the mask of an anonymous facade. Come across like a bunch of third form boys still in shorts.
  10. Post this in the family album than. Welcome to the vampire apocalypse.
  11. Shane may be just the jigsaw piece needed to complete the forward puzzle. Enigma to some of course but a great western in the tradition of Stand off at the Corvid Corral.
  12. AFL in their omniscience created the draft. Lesser ‘equals’ at Struggle aka Arden Street have a cargo cult lead by high priests Clarkson, Viney and Rawlings. Meanwhile… In the more salubrious surroundings of Jolimont Terrace. A messiah cult has again re-emerged with a growing number idolatrous adherents seen fervently worshipping the mysterious “No. 1.” Understandably DL is a broad church, but will the moderators ensure a modicum of common sense prevails? Or will it be necessary to call in the Inquisition to purge these heretics so equilibrium can again be re-stored?
  13. Meanwhile in a parallel universe Ben Tom and Jack saddle up for a great season at Casey.
  14. Sound thinking. As the old adage suggests “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!” Then again ‘you can’t make an omelette without cracking eggs.’
  15. Well somebody’s got to own it…
  16. Those advocating a radical change of direction may be right after the notoriety of “the double” (straight set finals exits). But be careful not to throw out the ‘baby’ with the bathwater.
  17. Congratulations Axis of Bob, a pleasure to read a well thought out and logical post. The current vogue for reams of often dubious data accompanied by near meaningless psycho-footy babble, needs some serious backwash. James Harmes’s diagonal foot pass to Bayley Fritisch in the 2021 GF. Rightly deserves legendary status as one quality kick to premiership glory. Efficacy with efficiency seamlessly.
  18. Deakyn Smith. Must feel confused, a multi-award winning exit with recognition at both Casey and MFC. IMO has shown he has AFL attributes. Deserves an opportunity elsewhere. It’s a hard game.
  19. Given the demographic of the Woods premiership team, still a glimmer of opportunity out there for Jake to fulfill his AFL dream. Will be cheering him on.
  20. Referring to Simon v Garfunkel 1969 (visually) "Still, a man sees what he wants to see. And disregards the rest." Appreciate the reference to Edward Tufte, but the AFL graphic is not in the same football park or within a bull's roar of Minard's Carte Figurative. Nebulous comes to mind, I'll stick to sculpture.
  21. So you're prepared to put the ruler thru Euler? My understanding a graph should communicate a summary of the information (data) succinctly and simply as possible. Allowing the reader to ideally correctly interpret the 'data' with relative ease. Pleased you've been able to glean some useful information from the 'graph' but to my eye the boys and girls at Champion Data or whoever put the graph together moonlight at Bernard's in Elizabeth Street. old55 your moniker suggests 'old school' so I'm going to cut you some slack... the horizontal or x axis is the independent variable or time. The vertical or y axis is the dependent variable ? (wave a magic wand over that).
  22. If this is the future of an enjoyable day at the footy good luck. Just about need a pHD in graphical analysis to begin to make any sense of it. Where to begin? The y axis (vertical) is ... and the x axis (horizontal) is… Parabolic curves, independent, dependent and controlled variables and outliers. Lines of best fit, plot points... Think of all the homework required.
  23. SCC will suit JJ, expect his field kicking to immediately gain penetration. Lovely if the Swans repay the meat and potato largesse, (throw in Brody Grundy as steak knives). With one of their plethora of up and coming young tall forwards.
