  1. Yeah, physicality on the footy field at its best. Sadly 'legislated out' of the game today.
  2. JUst viewed video of 1st semi-final 1994 Dees v Doggies... the great Jakovich out injured? but Captain Garry and team mates step up to the plate and performed magnificently. We were in the zone! True, memory is less reliable as time passes. Prior to viewing would have sworn (erroneously), young Neita cleaned up Chris Grant, who appeared to be out for the count. But he returned to the ground after half time! Albeit a little 'groggy' and probably less able to perform. With concussion rules in place now would not happen. Only fly in the ointment? Having to fly to Perth and play West Coast Beagles the following week. Sound familiar? Dreams of ultimate success thwarted by earlier opportunities not taken at that moment in time. Other teams with less talent have won premierships, perhaps decided by the roll of the dice or the bounce of the Sherrin.

Skuit, if you're currently "stuck in Darwin" my only recommendation would be the recreational lounge at old Impex worker's village at Howard Springs, Social distancing may apply. You're right Demon's supporters here probably wouldn't raise a centurion's cohort. ?

Just when we were both thinking here we are marooned in Darwin fading into irrelevance and obscurity. After withdrawal of future MFC games in the top end 2019. Rab D Nesbitt has helped revive the Tarax brand somewhat by accident. Rab you may have recalled our claim of attending every Demons' game played in Darwin. Unfortunately though research at Demonwiki has proven that to be erroneous as an earlier match was played in the 90's which was temporally inappropriate for our presence. Pleased to read so many fond memories from other baby boomer posters. Anything to add some levity to your day!

To arrest the purported vertical exponential leap in those afflicted neither gloves or masks are currently recommended by health 'experts' Apparently the bug is carried by gloves and masks should be reserved for use by medical professionals. Yes with panic buying and shortages of popular consumer items, thrifty alternatives are always welcome. Although the advice recently offered, (in order to forestall the contagion) by an Iranian cleric. To apply oil of pansy flowers (in polite society) to an unmentionable part of the anatomy, nightly, does not give one exactly a 'ring' of confidence. Happily bananas still appear to be abundantly available. Those sections quoted of course originate with Hemingway.
  6. Chris Grant, Barry Hall & Warren Tredrea (all fine players) are in, i would argue that Lyon is the equal of any of them. Would argue Garry Lyon was more versatile than Chris Grant, (both on field and off!) a much better sportsman than Barry Hall (but perhaps of equal notoriety) and much less concerned with on field histrionics than Warren Tredrea (although he has a higher media profile). Wasn't Chris Grant 'cleaned up' by David Neitz during the match? Fairly of course!
  7. Time for a bex and a good cup of tea ...
  8. Strewth! Assuming the Jungle Gym is located somewhere behind the primary dune and the team accommodation is 50 metres from the beach. This year's Maroochydore Training Camp appears to be channeling a Cecil B. DeMille Sword and Sandals epic. Of course Christian Petracca is hot favourite for the lead role, with Adam Tomlinson nominating for the support role.
  9. Awaiting the sequel ... FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE maybe ‘billy the kid’ would have crossed the great divide for season 2020.
  10. Facilities at Maroochydore seem rather primeval, love the corrugated iron and rainforest look. Plently of Johnny Weissmuller types in the wings too! Are the boys able to fraternise with the locals up there? When does Jane make her appearance?
  11. Mmmmmm... as bare a baby BBO's bottom, just add Johnson's talcum powder for good measure ???
  12. Joeboy are you going to provide a 3 word analysis of their sur le champ performances?

Memorable kicks... well had the extreme good fortune to see Tassie Johnson, Brian Dixon, Don Williams, Johnny Townsend, Bryan Kenneally and Doc Roet, all premiership players from the club’s last golden era still grace the ‘G. Only memory of RDB was at Princess Park, but sadly playing for the all navy blue. Agree that John Tilbrook was a magnificent kick, (a bio-mechanical marvel to behold on the run) but unfortunately his on field performances never matched his almost mythic legendary pre-arrival hype. With the exception of a cameo performance, when he briefly illuminated the ‘G with a what could has been. One Saturday afternoon during his debut season, with three goals from the half-forward flank. Lou Richards mischievously labelled him as ’Topaz Tilly’. The late Max Walker could hoof them too, for a big bloke. Resplendent in the # 1 long sleeved jumper, he kicked a magnificent drop kick towards the Jolimont goal, back in the post-halcyon days. Gary Hardeman was also a penetrating kick of a football from centre-half back. Enjoying the ‘series’ Demons 3031!
  14. A distant memory, ruckman Peter Weekes played VFL with MFC and later VFA with Prahran. Remember his debut season kicking action, was very awkward perhaps the footy equivalent of Froggy Thompson’s bowling action on the ‘G. Other luminaries and less so who played for both clubs according to Demonwiki, include Bert Chadwick, Bryan Kenneally, John Lord Senior, Bob McKenzie, Barrie Vagg and Don Williams. Bob Spargo, Vin Catoggio, Kelvin Clarke, Greg Hutchison, Andrew Moir, Russell Richards ? and Peter Sinclair.
  15. Thank you DJ, that has clarified matters considerably. Unless there is a MFC premiership in the New Year offerings (or next), it may well be that any future scholarly research, will only be able to find brief references to demon flags in the Red Sea scrolls or other archaic sources. Meanwhile we await with hope that a new chapter will be written in the NEV.
  16. Daisy, could you also include the missing OT reference for this quotation? Book, chapter and verses, so we may make the appropriate inclusions to our holiday reading lists ... Thanks in advance TC. TPF39, the festive season in your hood has clearly returned to its pagan origins, although it appears more sodom and gomorrah than yuletide!
  17. In good company GWS and Lions also on the rise!
  18. Went by the epithet 'Buckets' for good reason BBO!
  19. Absolutely agree Flash cannot readily think of a Demons example, but Stewart Loewe who played forward for the Saints, improved his goal kicking tremendously. From a very rudimentary beginning where he struggled to "kick over a jam tin" to a powerful and accurate kick from the 50 metre arc. As his goal kicking record attests to with nearly 600 goals kicked. Do not recall who he worked with, but he did have a set goal kicking routine. Which combined with considerable training practice and skill development (one assumes) made him a formidable opponent.

RL, If you care to explore behind the facade of Darwin as a modern progressive city and government tourist authority offerings you will find bogans, longgrassers, ferals, luddites and troglodytes abound.
