  1. Indeed. And what i simply don't get is why people don't get this is the key reason why we are playing the way we are playing. It's one things footy fans drinking the Kool Aid and ignoring the impact of having a quarter of your best players unavailable (not to mention also having a fair wack of your best 22 not fully fit), quite another when media types who are paid to have an opinion also ignore it. I mean, der.
  2. Not the only one Nasher. I have only just finished watching the game. For family reasons could not watch the game live and thanks to the well designed Kayo platform watched 'as live'. We were horrible. All our woeful kicking skills that i (and it must be said you) have pointed out for the last few years were on full technicolor display. But we got the 4 points. And that is all that matters. At least for now. The Pies, the best team in the AFL by a country mile, almost got beaten by the worst team in the AFL today. Hibberd is huge blow but if we get Hannan, May, Lever and JKH (his running will be super important for us) back in the next few weeks then we won't be far away. The AFL is becoming like the NBA. The regular season is a war of attrition. The play offs/finals is a totally new season. Even the best teams can struggle if come finals team they get key injuries. Sure the pies and the cats look good ATM. But is very long season these days. A few key injuries and the cats are among the magpies, so to speak.
  3. Can not stand this sort of comment. Sure, don't rate a player. But to hope a player who goes and out and gives everything they have for their team (my team - and i assume yours Martin) is injured and is not up for selection for the next game is pathetic. I hate it. With a passion. I have always hated demons fans who bag our own. And i have called out many at games over the last four decades. Demonland is like a virtual outer. And like the outer if you are are true fan there are lines you don't cross. And the number one line you don't cross is satisfaction when one of ours is hurt. And you crossed it. I have had no issue with your posts Martin. And in my nearly 10 years on Demonland i have ignored a very small number of posters. But in the immortal words of L7 you have just made my [censored] list
  4. We won't need 13 wins. 12, perhaps even 11 will earn a top 8 spot this season. The latter is a real chance if the pies, gws and cats clear away and win most of their games. Outside those teams clubs are incredibly even down ro suns, swans and blues. But let's say 12 gets a team in. We win today and we need 9 from 14. Sure that is no small feat and everything has to go right (best players back, no more major injuries etc) but it is doable. Afher this game we have a tough run into the bye and after the bye four very winnable games after.
  5. Well ignored form is a bit of an overstatement. The bookies have the away team as favorites in 7 of the 9 games (which is a quirky statistical anomaly). The only away teams not favorite are the lions and tigers and both are around 2.30 so rated a pretty good chance to win.
  6. Good Lord if stuie dew settles on the ground he squash half our team!
  7. Really happy the dees have dodged the wet weather in Melbourne this weekend. Wet weather exposes our skill issues ( I could not believe it last week when it started to rain right before the game started and again at the start of the second half). Gold Coast is 24 and sunny tommorow (though weirdly the BOM still says 10% of rain) and hopefully the game concludes before any dew settles. Of course I'd take any win, but to get some momentum, not to mention some much needed percentage, we need a big win that features slick ball movement and transition, kicks to targets and some forward 50 marks. Bring it Dec and tmac.
  8. Note to self: desist from predicting players won't be dropped.
  9. Could explain the explosion in the use by commentators (hello gary) of the dreaded phrase 'ground ball'. It annoys me that so much ofvchampion data's data is unavailable to Joe public.
  10. There has been talk also of a purpose built ground in the area under bolte bridge. That mightvattractvsome government dollars as they need community infrastructure down there to service people who live in the docklands and the thousands that will be living in the big new development between North Melb train station and Arden street. The Fisherman's bend development might also represent an opprtunity.
  11. The Casey demons vflw team playing at 11am., followed by the Casey demons vel team at 2pm. Both versus Essendon at Windy Hill. Both live streamed on YouTube. And the dees' game kicks off at 4:45. That is s full demons day.
  12. After being one of our better players? I don't think so. Dazzler might have to suffer through the ANB, omac show for another week.
  13. Hypothetical question. If he plays there is no reason for his game time to be managed. He'll be close to full fitness now. I'd play him. Sends a message that we respect the opposition (as we should - they are above us after all) and that we are focused on winning this game. Also provides an opportunity foe Jack to find some touch before the wc game.
  14. One hopes your mangled use of metaphor is sophisticated satire, making a comment on the woeful standard of football journalism. But i fear that may not be the case....
  15. Was thinking exactly the same thing when I read song's post. As you say the new fake news, which was the new pc gone mad (or its cousin the pc loud minority)
  16. Wasn't worthy of a new thread, but credit where credit is due. This thread seemed as good a place as any to post this given it is about PR. I have been a big critic of our website (and comms in general). They have done a bit of an overhaul and done one of things i said was an easy fix - put up clips of radio interviews. The landing page has 6 interviews from radio and one TV interview (in addition to their own content). Good stuff and this simple addition gives me reason to visit the site as you have hunt around for these clips and it is a pain.
  17. Two different discussions Macca. Whatever you think of the rule for rehabbing players not to drink (or what Dr they adhere to it) the fact remains he broke team rules. The latter is the issue at hand
  18. Sorry macca not sure what you mean here. Maxy was pretty clear on Sen that team rules are that ok as gets rehabbing don't drink. Agree its not a hanging offence but he def broke team rules, hence his apology to the team Sounds as if there were mitigating circumstances, hence no punishment. Maturely handled by the club.
  19. I don't really have an issue with Tom Morris per se. Just doing the job he is paid to do. What I dislike is that really he is little more than a gossip columist. He's not a writer. Yet he is paid to write. He is a journalist, but only the sense that he is in the media. Like Sam McClure and that other gossip monger Tom Browne. All so called 'news breakers. So funny. No analysis, no intelligence, no balance, no nuance and barely any more real research than trawling social media and fan sites such as this one. And so often reliant on club sources that quite frankly I don't believe exist most of the time. Look at Morris' article posted a few minutes ago about Shaun Smith's comments about his son. A classic of the genre. Gossip pure and simple. Is it 'news worthy. Not in my book. It is 'click bait worthy', which like it or not is the now the key metric in media. Good journalism is terminal. But I don't blame the Toms or the Same of this world, pretty little gold fish swimming as they do in the little AFL fish bowl, they are simply meeting a demand. Meeting the need for ever more content for all the TV shows, online sites, radio etc etc. Click. Click. Click
  20. Probably helps if you want to have an informed opinion on it though.
  21. That article does a nice job of rubbing some salt into our recruiting wounds with the last two paragraphs: 'Melbourne gave up pick No.6 in last year's NAB AFL Draft to secure May and former Sun Kade Kolodjashnij, who has managed two matches in his first season at the Demons. Kolodjashnij has been sidelined indefinitely with concussion.'
  22. The Steven May Pint would be more accurate.
  23. Was going to post something similar. Maxy said though the first step will be to have a chat and get some context and sense of any mitigating circumstances (my words)
