  1. These threads would be less convoluted if everyone accepted the very strong likelihood that the following players will not be dropped this season: - ANB - fritter - kozzie - Jackson - spargo
  2. Says it all. Had to laugh, peta credlin is now an opinion writer for the hun and yesterday, on tbe day nsw goes to lockdown, writes an article about the return of Joyce provides an opportunity for tbe coalition to move further to the right
  3. It might have been noted previously, but the game is live from 12 on channel 7.
  4. Agree on both points. On the latter point, I wonder if it might be more evidence of them having put in extra trains loads over the last 3 weeks?
  5. They had 5 I think. Not much connection there
  6. That may be the case but as I couldn't get a ticket I had to watch it on TV. And when they replayed it you could hear the umpire tell Smith it (the second 50) was for abuse
  7. I wondered exactly the same thing. And I suspect this is actually very likely to be the case. It is what teams in flag contention do if they can. There is no other point in tbe season where it is possible to put significant training loads into the players. I reckon they dialled up the loads after the lions game and right up to this game. And from this point it is all about maintenance and being cherry ripe for finals.
  8. Jeez nev, i thought I liked to argue....
  9. The first 50 was 100% there. I was yelling 50 - just as it was paid. The second was for abuse. Complete lack of discipline
  10. More gold standard contract tracing: https://t.co/4ZR1gZj8fZ?amp=1 BRISBANE, 26 June 2021: Virgin Australia can confirm that a Sydney-based cabin crew member has tested positive to COVID-19 after undertaking a rapid result test this evening. State and Federal health authorities have been notified. The affected crew member is a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case from a known cluster in Sydney. Virgin Australia understands the crew member was not aware they were a close contact of a positive case until after they completed their last flight today. NSW Health advises that five flights, as outlined below, on which the crew member flew from 24 June 2021 are of concern. The crew member may have been infectious during that time. The crew member also had an overnight layover in Melbourne on 25 June 2021, staying at the Holiday Inn Express Southbank. While in Melbourne, the crew member remained in hotel isolation under prescribed COVID protocols for overnighting crew members from New South Wales. Affected flights are: 25 June 2021 VA939 Sydney-Brisbane VA334 Brisbane-Melbourne 26 June 2021 VA827 Melbourne-Sydney VA517 Sydney-Gold Coast VA524 Gold Coast-Sydney
  11. Not being smart but which teams are picking us apart? Leaving the crows and pies out of tbe discussion - because in both games our defensive run, all team defence and pressure were miles off - no other team has been able to put scoreboard pressure on us. Not picking us apart at all. The bombers are one of the form sides atm and one of the most offensive, highest scoring teams in the AFL. And in perfect conditions could only manage 57 points. Our Achilles heel is way too many missed shots for goal. Agree on blokes being down though. Kozzie was poor tonight as was Fritter. I thought Jackson was average too.
  12. His best game this season. Was very important tonight. As you say shut tippa down, but also ran off him at every chance
  13. Not been watching us this year? Of the "better" teams who exactly had shredded us. Unless by better teams you ate referring to the pies and crows.
  14. We will win this game by 50 points plus
  15. Agree. Bad signs for tigers. Injuries are the biggest, and most underrated, factor in football. The tigers 'system' can only mitigate having so many key players our for so long. And the tigers depth is rubbish now, with players like Ellis and Higgins having left for coin and opportunity
  16. It's now completely run out. A two week full lockdown. And a reasonable question is should they have locked down a week ago as we did in Victoria at the equivalent stage of the outbreak. I'm not bagging the nsw government. They have to make tough calls. But the fact remains that our decision on lockdown and the staged lifting of restrictions has brought our outbreak to heel. The government was criticised heavily for that decision, particularly from the all powerful Murdoch Mafia. We now have a direct comparison of two approaches. Of the 29 cases announced today 12 were out and about in the community WHILST infectious. That suggests contract tracing lagged. And would not have occurred if tbey had been in lockdown. And the vic fella who went to a party in nsw would not have had a party to go to. And would not have risked creating a new outbreak in Victoria just as we were getting on top of our outbreak. By the by that risk is still very much there. Given the numbers in nsw, and the approach they have chosen to take, there is a very strong chance a two week lockdown will not be enough. So do the maths on the economic impact of the approach they have taken. And compare it to that of Victoria of our latest outbreak. The situation in nsw is awful for tbe whole country. I'm sick of the lack of a federally coordinated respons to all of this, including lockdowns. And I'm sick of how decisions such as when and how to impose restrictions and lockdowns are often overly informed by ideology and political considerations,. And the Murdoch Mafia has a lot to answer for in this regard. Maybe Peta credlin can go to some pressers in nsw and ask about how it escaped in the first place, how it spread so quickly and how effective or otherwise their gold standard contract tracing has gone.
  17. One loss in a row it would seem. Maaaaaaaassiiiiiiiive.......
  18. A reminder to all of the lucky ticket holders if you even the slightest sniffle or vague symptom on Saturday you need to stay home. And if you do feel a bit off, even a tiny bit, i can help you out and take your seats to make sure we have good representation at the game. The slightest symptom, do the right thing for Victoria and stay home. And i'll volunteer to take the you seat to do the right thing for the Dees.
  19. Well, lets agree to disagree Nev
  20. My god. My mate who is bombers fan who cant go isn't a bloody member! Fool. Means i cant use his barcode!
  21. Look's like the NSW's government's luck ran out. I hope some of the angst about the decision in Victoria to go to lockdown is bit more measured moving forward.
  22. I reckon this is where stats can be misleading. I suspect that the key reason only half of the hit outs he wins are going to advantage is a function of how we are set up at stoppages and our clearance systems. If they wanted to increase that ration they could choose to do so easily enough. In around the ground stoppages, most other teams bring an extra to the stoppages to try and negate our mid filed and ruck strengths (like the blues did) or becuase that is what they always do (eg the lions and dogs). So it makes sense that less taps would go to one of our players. And in the center square set up, we are looking to be more aggressive with our clearances, so any win we get gives us a clean inside 50 entry. So the objective is quality taps to a moving player rather than simply winning it, for winnings sake. And both in the center and around the ground, if Max can't get a clean tap to moving player, he usually avoids hitting it to space and instead drops it close to the ruck contest (if possible to the opposition's defensive side of the contest), where there is a greater chance of it going to the opposition, because often that is where their extra is. If he chose to hit the ball forward to space more often he might increase his hit outs to advantage, but hit outs that go to an opposition player out in space create a big rebounding risk. Its all about playing the percentages. The real stat to worry about is not hit outs to advantage, but what happens after we get a hit out to advantage. Nice clean inside 50's or exits from stoppages is the goal. Tap outs to advantage that result in a pressured hack kick that gets picked off up the ground is what they are tying to minimise. As noted in the thread about Petty, we are keeping opposition points from turnovers under control and are ranked No.2 in this stat, where we were 11th last year. I reckon a big factor why this is the case is that whilst hit outs to advantage are down, so are the number of times a mid has to jam it on the boot under pressure and in dong so turning the ball over. Conversely a big reason we are miles ahead at the op of the intercept table is when the opposition win a hit out or shark one of ours, more often than not it is in tight and under intense pressure. So a Max hit out that isn't initially to advantage, often ends up creating a post clearance win because we pressure the ball carrier, force a rubbish kick, intercept it and rebound brilliantly from our back 50 (we are 4th in the AFL in rebound 50s). Sure they are no doubt continually trying to perfect their set up etc but our intercepts, rebounding and much improved inside 50 to scoring ratio are all evidence the current model is working pretty effectively. And being 11-2 is pretty good evidence too i might add.
  23. Sorry, Dazzler, objectively that is simply not true. Max has been incredible this season. Sure he seems to have flagged a bit in the las few games but even in them he has been extremely influential nd the amount of work he does is crazy. One indicator of his level this year is that he is number one in the AFL by a mile in contested marks, which is particularly impressive given how much [censored] illegal spoils and blocks he has to fight though. But better evidence of his level this year is that he is 7th in the coaches award, the best measure of performance in my opinion. Coaches don't give votes to players who have been poor. Here is the top 15 as it stands atm. Some bloody good players in this list, and all in top form: 68 Clayton Oliver MELB 66 Marcus Bontempelli WB 60 Ollie Wines PORT 55 Hugh McCluggage BL 55 Darcy Parish ESS 52 Touk Miller GCFC 49 Max Gawn MELB 48 Zach Merrett ESS 48 Samuel Walsh CARL 44 David Mundy FRE 43 Rory Laird ADEL 42 Dustin Martin RICH 42 Nic Naitanui WCE 42 Christian Petracca MELB 42 Jack Steele STK
