Hannan here was a little underrated. He was sop important in the 3rd and 4th in pressure acts and score involvements. Won me over today.

Maynard is another interesting prospect. Whilst not as clear as Oliver (not in the same ballpark) but he seemed to always have his hands first to the ball, huge body, and just extracted the ball. Still learning how to not give away free kicks but I'd hate to be against him and Oliver at a centre bounce.

Neither Kent nor Kennedy will be delisted. Both showed they are too good for VFL. Even a lathargic Kent looks too good when he actually tries. Kennedy might find a new home, but he is a best 44 player. Maybe the 22-25 at most clubs but he'll find a home. I can see why trenners isn't getting a game. He's great and does all the right things but there is something not there. JKH looked so much better than he did earlier this season. Wagner and Weiderman stood out for me as yeah I can see you playing top level afl football for a long time. I'm not a Wagner fan but today might have converted me. Stretch just seems like he's missing something. I don't think he's an in and under player yet seems to always end up there. Knows how to find the football. Spencer didn't overwhelm me with confidence. If we didn't have a ruck problem I'd keep him at casey for another week. Put their hand up - Wagner, Weid, JKH, then throw a blanket over Stretch, Kennedy, Spence and I thought Kent woke up in the second half and had an influence.
-
Tim Smith done for the day - icing his ankle.
-
Mayne was, JKH is now in his tracksuit as well for Monday.
-
Cox played really well in the first half and now is in his jumper - looks like he is being held over for Monday...

About 5-6 years ago, second year blues was a serious thing that was discussed before the '3rd year breakout'. I dont know where that has gone, but Weid looks like he is massively in those blues. The main thing is he is doing the right things and works hard. As a developing tall that is all you can ask. I think that Hullett looks shot of confidence as well. Hopefully later in the year when we get our injury list down we will start to play better and they'll get more of the ball and feel a bit better. Tackles 56 - 45 now. Really pulled that back. Not big numbers by any of our boys. HT STATS Kennedy-Harris 14, Kennedy 13, Wagner 13, Trengove 12 Goals Fritsch 3, Kent 1, Lewis-Smith 1, Maynard 1, Stretch 1, Smith 1 11 that quarter from JKH

Poor Weiderman. The football gods just hate him at the moment. For those who are interested, 80% of the time he is competing, but none of it is coming off. He's had a couple of chances at goal. I think he is either 0.3 or 0.2. The set shot he should have kicked, he's had two snaps in the pack, one hit the post and the other was touched/rushed. He's taken 1-2 marks but they were on a lead. Hasnt taken a contested grab but crashed 6-7 packs so far.

Not as many as Kirby! Is that 4 or 5 Kirby has given away now. Maynard 3 or 4 - Maynard's frees have been a lot of non-footballer free kicks. High, tackling incorrectly, etc.
-
Draft Fritch now.
-
QT STATS Disposals Wagner 8, Trengove 7, Munro 7, Scott 6 Goals Fritsch 2, Maynard 1, Lewis-Smith 1 Didnt realise Trenners had so many. Stretch would have been sling tackled into the ground 6 or 7 times.

I love Plapp. He'll be a great AFL coach one day. Thanks Drunkn - not a good sign at all! You wont see the tackle stats there but they are 36-18 their way. As a positive at least we are getting a good chunk on the ball.
-
People who are there, is there a lot of wind? Spencer, Smith and Weid all missed from the same spot and all went to the left.
-
Number: 30Height: 186cm Weight: 74kg D.O.B: 06/12/1996 He'll be picked up by someone in the rookie draft this year.

Wager really looks head and shoulders above. Spence looks rusty. If you asked me who is the AFL player between Fritch and Kent, I'd say Fritch because of his efforts (the goals help too). Weiderman does have second year blues but the delivery in the forward line is horrible. JOhnstone has got great pressure. I think it was something that Plapp wrote last week that its not his touches, its his pressure. You can really tell that is what he is focusing on. White is looking alright but looks VFL. Smith again looks rusty. Stretch playing much more inside.
-
Trenners is slow but such good skills. Seriously plays like he is 33. I really loved the look of 64 (found out it was Maynard). Such a good size. Probably a little slower than I expected, but I find the VFL just looks so slow no matter who you are.
-
Yep Wagner out there for the VFL. Also saw JKH as well. Odd we dont have a hold over player. Although havent seen Spencer yet Update - havent seen him but he was in the lineup on tv.

Pulled the list from the old contracts thread and checked with Big Footy's lists as well: Cant afford to lose Stretch - sign for 3 years Salem - sign for 3 years Weiderman - sign for 3 years Vince - 1 year deals over 30, keep 'em coming Bern King - I think this will be a 2 year deal, quite low salary. Question Mark Vandenberg - injuries have been unkind but we know what he can do and we think the FD like him, so re-sign 2 year deal Neal Bullen - He is watching his value rise. I think if he is best 25 at the end of the year he stays, if not he might look for a new home. I'd want to sign though JKH - Still think there is something to work with there. Carlton were sniffing around last year, I wonder if we will let him go for more opportunity. Trengove - I assume we offer him a 1 year contract but he goes to somewhere like Carlton on a 3 year deal for not much money as a free agent and we happily let him walk and hope he is able to have a good career as an in and under mid. We all go to the Carlton game and applaud him as he has 35 touches in a loosing team. Spencer - At 28, he'd have to be looking for someone to offer him a first ruck position (GC, Syd) otherwise sign a couple of years on for us. Keilty and Smith - all depends on how they have developed and what else is out there. Considering the reports we get out of the FD on these two, I'd expect they stay on the rookie list another year Pedersen - I have no idea. He's been great and deserves another 1 year contract but is he going to be in the side come round 23? Going? White - hasn't played a senior game or been an emergency for an age. The recruitment of Lewis and Hibberd has really hurt his opportunities. Hulett - I'd like to keep him as he is a big man and needs time to develop. You never know these things though. Flip - Injuries are mean, but again, you wonder if he has shown enough to the FD Lamumba In contract but ??? Kennedy - surely he is looking to play more game time. Will he try at another club? Kent - what has gone on here this year? Hopefully he is back in the 1's by the end of the year playing the football we know he can play Garland - assume that he had a frontloaded deal so he is getting peanuts next year. Expect him to stay

If we beat GWS in round 20, there will be not bag left, the cat will have shredded it; the lid would have been exploded off; and Melbourne will become everyone's second favourite team..... Based on what we have seen so far this year and the fact that only Brisbane arent competitive, it looks like 11 wins will get you to 8th. Pre GWS and GC 10-12 wins were getting you in. Also dont look at those ladders, it will depress you. We were seriously bad....

Rightio - The O-Mac dropping question. The reason we can play Tom forward is because O Mac is able to put on the pressure to defend. There was a comment earlier about taking a contested mark against an opposition forward - the kid is 21. When we drafted him, honestly don't know if any of us expected he would have played 25 games by now. He is structurally important. He allows Tom and Frost to run off their man and hurt offensively. He understands the zone really well and the reason we all pull our hair out is because he seems to be at every defensive contest - even when it isn't his man. If you drop him, you will loose the defensive run of Frost and/or Tom because they have to play full back and be more accountable. Yes he is making mistakes, yes he is frustrating, but in terms of young defenders, he is doing what he needs to do in his development. Yes I'd love Lever, but then I'd need someone to play the full back role because Tom and Frost don't play it. In saying all of that, O Mac doesn't get dropped. Right now, we need to play the best 22 we have to play our game style (rather than Collingwood's). So assuming that we are given a gift with Hogan In: Salem, Hogan Out: Wager (like for like with Salem), Bugg (playing short in the forward line over the past month so this straightens us up)

Start of the year I would have had the losses as St K, Ade, Geel and hoped we beat Hawks (with no certainty). So 6-4 going into the bye. Now we have hindsight that we should have won a whole heap of those games as mentioned above. If you said we had no Hoges, Gawn, Brayshaw, Spencer and VDB I would have said no way we beat North and Rich probably goes to them. So 4-6. So I cannot not be happy. Yes the losses sting as we are so close, but it's good they are stinging rather than me sitting there in the second half hoping we make the margin respectable.
-
He's so important in structure. He understands what Goodwin wants and seems to always be in the right position. Let's wait till this time next year and see where he is at. Once he cleans up his decision making by 10% he will be very important

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Dee-licious replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
End of the day we want the best 22 players in the league on our field. If May is gettable, he is an upgrade on present day OMac and Frost. I cannot help but think though that we might be making a mistake there as Rance and Hurley are the only two KPD who are better than Tom Mc and O Mac is progressing roughly the same as T Mac. I dont know what we do here at all. I've heard that Lever is happy (only one source so not confirmable) but May is very gettable. As the last poster said, first rounder and something at least.
