My heart being 57 years older than last time, I don’t know that it would have lasted the tension of the last one in 64 with the last minute 4 point win with the winning goal by a back pocket straying, against coach’s orders, to the half forward line. The 56, 57 and 60 teams were also etched into my memory but it is so hard to compare eras. That said the current mob look pretty complete and superbly fit.

Agree that the “standard published stats” suggest he did very little but there were numerous pressure moments and shepherds that are available to some that no doubt show things differently. Totally stunned by the turnaround. I know we did v Brisbane and Geelong in the home and away, but this, in a GF!! The three goals in 80 seconds leading in to ¾ time blew my mind (and Footscray’s will) … bloody amazing.

They have squeezed the life out of teams especially in second halves. But they don’t just squeeze, they also connect and set up attacks. And so many times, when the mids slow the oppositions momentum, the rest of the mids and forwards run down and set an impenetrable zone. Bloody hard work but well rewarded. Couldn’t happen if some goose at AFL HQ decided to restrict players to netball like zones as another knee jerk reaction to help save Geelongs Gerries. 😡
