Hope everyone on the list is ready to run next year, Langdon will be burning past our players and making them look second rate if they don't. Great get and that 2-way running power will be enormous on the 'G

And don't forget apparently Tomlinson was the gws time trial star also.

    Great work Mahoney

The view out that window currently is a nice pattern of out in straight sets alternating with miss the finals.  Is ol' Frosty is going to carry them back to the penthouse view?

A big dash out of defence to usually a long kick to noone in particular resulting in a turnover. Looks terrific at first but ineffective.

Correct decision by list management if we are to improve.

    Crazy isn't it.

Perhaps the least understood key factor in any team (or organisation for that matter) success is the strength of the board and the how effective its governance is.

It is one reason that i am very confident he dees will bounce back. We are in a good space in terms of our board, governance and executive.

Nice to read a sensible post on this thread. My thoughts also.

He's a depth player not a list clogger. If it wasn't for GWS's massive amount of injuries he would have played a lot less games.

    Agree on this WD.

Tomlinson was in the last 11 kept of the first draft  by GWS. They let plenty go over the first 8 years and he wasn't one of them. Thus they rated him highly in their future. That,s good enough for me as an indicator

    Think, Tyson, Frost  etct, etc,.....

Agreed. For his size he is very light footed and athletic.

People comparing him to Jones and Lewis on the wing have NO idea. He is also an elite mark, and how often were we coming out of the backline this season with literally nobody to kick to (except Gawn vs. 19 opponents)?

We lost Hogan who played so well roaming up the ground and taking marks as a link up man. Tomlinson really fills that gap and will allow us to transition the ball more purposefully up forward.

Some sense for a change on this.

Time trial winner consistently at GWS and probably can kick. He will be hard to stay with for opposition teams.

    194 cm at 96kg with a tank - Tomlinson

The others are 180 and 87kg(jones) and 186 and 86kgs. No comparison.

Garry Lyon was 193 and 96KG - Interesting to give a true comparison.- No pressure though

he is fairly quick but have you seen him kick?

poor skills and not great decision making either. no point adding speed without kicking skills imo

Good summary. He's a peninsula boy so personally moorabbin may suit him better.  Wouldn't add anythong new.

Really? I think he has very little love for the MFC. He and his family heavily invested in the Hawthorn Football Club

This is a professional business. What's love of club got to do with it.

If he's the best person for the role and offered he will grab with both hands.

Wallace is right.. Why are people getting so worked up when a media personality speaks the truth?

Me too Bin, Wallace is one of very few I actually love listening too. I know Cornes polarises people, but in my opinion him and Wallace on trade radio is the best slot to listen out of all the slots.

Fully agree on Wallace and Cornes DD.  I like the fact that they will admit if they are /were wrong, and have solid opinions - whether liked or not.  Unlike many media fence - sitters - looking at you Nicky Dal.

Agree to disagree, if he can't go into the midfield now for prolonged periods and he has trimmed down according to you, that either tells me one or two things, he can't train to sustain a certain level of gut running for the periods he craves in the midfield.

Or he can't sustain it because he is in AFL terms to heavy to play prolonged midfield minutes. Remember he's 23 years old not 20.

If you have played any sport that requires a high level of fitness, the heavier you are the quicker you fatigue 3-4 kgs less is a massive difference.

Dusty should be his prototype he is roughly the same height 187 cm weights 93 kgs, Tracc Height 186cms Weight 96kgs, 3 kgs difference.

If he can get to 92 kgs you will see a different player, hope burgo can get the best out of him .

Dermot brereton had a similar view to you w4 in that he believed trac had the wrong body shape for either  midfield and kpp. He wasn't sure where his best position is. But a breakout year to be a judd martin etc is never going to happen unfortunately

If I was a site admin things would look a bit different around here. As an example, in regard to Tomlinson I would make the following statement:

I hereby decree that any poster who is critical of recruiting Tomlinson (and costing us only salary cap space and a spot on the list I might add - an important consideration given the gws priority picks) is banned from at any point thereafter complaining about how bad the depth is at the MFC.

The punishment for breaching this rule will be having to change your avatar to a picture of Mark Neeld.

Please expand.  I'm not sure your statement proposal makes sense?

About to be an update on ch 7 sport.

My guess is Elliot is staying at pies.

Update - it was ben reid

I saw that too.  A brilliant bit of 'clickbait'  by Channel 7 to hold viewers through the ad break.

    Sheesh.!

Yesterday the Storm played the Eels in a knock out second semi.

The Storm have been in Melbourne for 30 years and have won 5 premierships (although two were taken away) and have been runners up on no less than four occasions. They have been wooden spooners once in 2010.

AAMI stadium has a capacity of 30,050.

Why after 30 years of sustained success couldn't the Storm fill AAMI stadium yesterday?

For the same reason the Giants will go nowhere. The AFL interest that there was in Sydney which was never great has been well catered for by the Swans who have been in Sydney for 37 years.

The quaint idea that you need two local teams to provide TV interest has never been a strong argument. In fact one city teams are the norm in most sports.

In short GCS and GWS will never succeed in the way we think of success.

Well said. Even these days visit sydney and still see how miniscule the swans vovetage is. I was there tecently and couted 13 pages of nrl before a seans article in the sunday paper.

How about GWS knock out collingwood then beat Geelong on grand final day. I could just about handle that. I think I could just about handle seeing Chris Scott and Danger getting beaten.

    Tigers will maul them.

Richmond/Collingwood is the AFLs dream GF. The $$$$$ that would be generated.

I attended the Cats game on Friday night and felt the crowd was nothing short of embarrassing for Geelong. Plenty of west coast support. You could fire a shot through parts of the ground close to start.

Now going to pies prelim with a smaller crowd but more that Friday's probably.  I fear the atmosphere for a GWS GF.

The AFL will have to do what they did in Week 1 and have amplified crowd noise when GWS kicks a goals.

If not goodwin, who? is the biog question that i think needs to be asked.

I don't like him as a bloke but Ross Lyon is gettable, his game style suits our list, he has a fantastic coaching record including grand final appearances with two clubs. maybe rebuilding isn't his thing but i reckon he'd get us back up the pointy end in 2020

Great post.  Lyon is seen by the industry as a coach that gets good teams up to GF level.  He does not take basket cases to do a re-build.

    Note Saints and Freo.

He may see the Dees in this light. Good list that can be made great?

And the Roos and Pert links

I reckon there will be plenty of speculation about it, but I doubt he makes the switch.

Having said that, would it surprise any of us if he made the move, knowing how strong his ties are to the Crows?  Probably not.

Yes it is hard to call.  But I'm not hearing the football director over there and footy manager getting the Axe. Which is wrong IMO.

But 1 is  Premiership teammate of Goodwin, the other a long term team mate.

    Who Knows?

Our club has the worst leadership of any club in the AFL. even the Suns with Witts, Swallow, Miller etc have better on field leadership.

we need to invest in someone like a Nick Maxwell figure to come into the club and develop leadership from our whole list.

it doesn't matter who is captain and who isn't, the underlying problem is our lack of leadership across the board, it's why we are so inconsistent, slow to react to opposition plays and consistently lose in the worst ways possible.

my personal opinion is we should recruit 2 on field leaders from other clubs, must be proven leaders, invest in a specific leadership coach/mentor and finally instill some ruthless, professional AFL standards at the club that we haven't had for a very long time, if at all.

    Nailed it.

Clearly?  Nope.  Viney leaving by his own hand.  CEO should focus on the business.  If Pert is involved in somehow giving Viney a nudge, then we are in terrible, terrible trouble.

    You're kidding right?

As ceo i expect pert to be involved in all aspects of club. Especially given his own playing background  etc.

    Good signs. No sacred coes.
