THE MONDAY KNEE JERK REACTION: TITUS O’REILY
I have to say this was a lame piece from TO'R, I'm a fan but it felt flat.

POSTGAME: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs
Ripper game on so many levels, every week I say a little prayer that we kick more goals than points 🙏 done. I said I'd give us a mulligan last week and was glad to be right. Salem's pick-up on the wing was elite Judd like level of control, and demonstration of our dry ball mastery. Lots of really good commentary so will try not to rehash other than acknowledge. I felt sorry for the Bullfrogs today, (not really was humming a tune we all are familiar with, chorus is similar to a Special AKA song), we were brutal was like watching the Hawks or Bombers in their pomp but without thuggery. May played an AA game. Viney is a pocket Zeus. Pickett has stopped giving extras, on a couple of occasions I expected a cheapie and was really please that is out of his game without diluting his lethalness. Tmac back surprised me, was nervous as hell when he was kicking it. But as much Tominson was stiff he had an ok game. Would still drop him for Petty though. Petty is Neitz like at going forward and back. BBB demonstrated exceptional positioning today, that just meant the dogs couldn't play off or through him. It might be twighlight for BBB but his presence brought Chandler into the game (who also worked bloody hard) Gawn along with May are BOG for me, in the 1st he was key to wrestling advantage in the game. After the 1st qtr I felt good about the game, while we didn't shake the dogs properly, the leaders of the club created the confidence in everyone else to go on and win the game, that started with Gawn May and Viney. BTW It's not just the similarity of the names or being indigenous, JUH uses his arms to mark like Jurrah used too, inspector gadget style, made me realise for the XXth time what a tragedy that story was. My opinion of JUH went up today, will be a phenom. We had the 4th highest crowd, and dogs supporters were not there. Lastly Goodwin has adapted our game, brilliant coaching, again.

Go and Get JUH
Early contender for post of the year. I like my droll tres sec.

Jesse Hogan
And I thought the club left things respectfully with him, no bad blood etc. We were more cut up.
-
Jesse Hogan
Not wrong and I wish him well, but between Brown, Tmac and Brayshaw salary we have a lot of change to throw around. Timing is good. GWS has alot of players to sign and a key defender that will command the mint in the near future.

Jesse Hogan
Enough water under the bridge, time heals all wounds etc, He's out of contract this year, and the most realistically gettable of the power forwards out there. Personally think he'd be great for us.

NON-MFC: Round 01
So Pies go 0-2 after a flag, we went 10-0, and they say we have a culture problem.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
You're probably right, would have been mean to send him to WCE though...

POSTGAME: Opening Round vs Sydney
Frustrated as hell and took the gloss off a day at the beach. Anyway I looked up the BoM for Thursdya evening, humidity was running at 90%, absolute kryptonite to even the fittest athletes if if not conditioned for it. Am prepared to give a reluctant mulligan, I really don't think we are that woeful, and nothing like the run we had against Carlton.
-
Farewell Brodie Grundy
I said at the time, why let him go to Sydney, only made a real rival stronger, Adelaide or Tigers would have been better.

POSTGAME: Practice Match vs Carlton
With great respect, Max and Jack, or Jack and Max, but totally agree with what you’re getting at. BTW anyone notice the way Pickett lifted (tackled) Cripps, almost went to far, but loved the intent, we have two predators in the midfield, oppositions will be looking over their shoulders.

Angus Brayshaw Forced into Retirement
Sincere thanks to many many posters, who have expressed sentiments I strongly agree with. I couldn't post sooner, this news really hurt. There is no way around it, by fair means or foul, I want that dog hounded out of the game. To me there is an unspoken contract, between the improvement in fitness and skill of players and the level of protection they should receive. I honestly believe i would be outraged at any player getting lined up the way Angus was. I acknowledge that Gus might have been more susceptible to the impact than others, but that was fair dinkum, a sniper shot from the 70's. I think Gus is doing the right thing fwiw.

Neale Daniher meets up with former Demons
Hope it ended better than the lunch at Entrecote. But seriously love all these blokes, looks like lunch is a regular event for most (-; Rigoni, Leoncelli and McDonald still looking trim. Can't imagine there is much knee cartilage between all of them though. And thank you Mr. Grinter for keeping the brotherhood going.

The Dees Incredibly Frustrating to Watch
On the same page there, if he improves like King did 20th to 21st years in Marks, he'll be on track to score more as well. I'm inclined to agree and think on eye ball the Kings are marginally better, but it's hardly daylight and JVR could easily close the gap, if not surpass them. Value for money (pick wise) JVR is a beauty. You didn't comment on accuracy as a metric though? traded off against marks...

The Dees Incredibly Frustrating to Watch
Yes, and in their 20th year, going by birth date (incl. for marks that I looked at the Kings)

The Dees Incredibly Frustrating to Watch
FWIW both the King Brothers go under 4 - and have a significant height advantage, I would (politely) argue that JVR brings accuracy to the table and that offsets opportunity (from marks), a'la Travis Cloke who went near 8/1.5g or even Lowe 8-9, for a 0.5 return. I also think apart from out i50 connection, he did not jell that well with TMac and BB, this is more a feeling from remembered vision than checking stats. I got the impression that he and Petty make a better mix than either of the other two with JVR. Not wanting to pay out on TMac, but watching vision I felt like he was most likely to spoil his own team mate in a pack. Completely subjective opinion for which I cannot find a stat, but did anyone else think that? Anyway Marks important but surely it's Goals hey?

The Dees Incredibly Frustrating to Watch
@binman Really appreciated the comparisons you posted, the thing that stands out to me is the weight, he has the other 3 covered despite being the shortest of the bunch. I also think that Amiss/UE are more Gunston type bodies, so not a direct comparison to JVR who is a power forward in any era. McD from the Swans is a like for like comparison, however has played in the shadow of Buddy(is that a thing?), so I think we will get a better look at him this year, but JVR certainly in the conversation there. BTW JVR ended the season with a total of 28 goals and 9 behinds, leading to an accuracy percentage of 75.7%. This performance was highlighted as the highest goal-to-behind percentage among players with 30 or more scoring shots in the league. So Binman is on the money with best young forward going around. Then I got curious, how does he stack against others in recent history, in the power forward stakes (at the age of 20), I didn't count first season - He would have been further ahead than most by that metric. Anyway as a 20 y.o. H2H, I checked with: 3.65 S. Rocca - was a monster. 3.32 Franklin - surprised was not the best. 2.95 Cameron - in a gun team. 2.2 Cloke - pre yips 2.2 Hogan - Just quietly GWS has made out like a bandit with Hogan. 1.94 Walker - annoyed at this, don't like the man. 1.69 Fevola - top of any list for wasted talent. 1.62 A. Rocca - Bam bam from the flintstones 1.52 J.Brown - CHF to be fair and still dominant but in a generational team with best mids going. 1.47 B. King 1.4 JVR 1.33 Pavlich 1.33 Daniher 1.3 Hawkins 1.22 M. King 1.0 J. Riewoldt 0.95 Hall 0.95 C.Curnow 0.93 N. Riewoldt 0.71 Lynch 0.46 J.Kennedy Keep in mind 2023 was his first season, the others were not, and also defense is so much stronger now most of those had their start prior to the Lyon/Clarkson floods. Who else wants to chip in $50 for towards a statue of Jason Taylor????

PRESEASON TRAINING: Monday 12th February 2024
Round 1 is going to be a tough game. With Tomlinson doing so much hard work, Salem back etc, our back and half back line looking stacked, I wouldn't mind the experiment of May forward. I picture him doing a Hawkins, oops I'm sorry didn't mean it clumsy wrecking ball. Meanwhile while Tomlinson is not the equal of May, he has definitely earnt some trust and reports on his renewed mobility and fitness are endearing. Thinking out of the box, Swans are extremely mobile forward but not stacked with big defenders (I thought they had an injury concern but couldn't find it with a quick google). This is why I think could be worth a go with May as well. Oliver plays, he doesn't need any silly hoops or second guessing, he's fit in mind and body he plays.
