Demur, we couldn't execute goal kicking, slightly different, I thought our pressure and composure during some dodgy tactics and non calls was very high.

Carlton can carry on all they like, they played hard and worked their butt's off, and won by the width of a Bee's phallus, truth is they were lucky and we didn't have an even performance. We were so close, it hurts, has ruined my week etc, but when I watch the contested effort to get back from 3 goals down in the fourth I am amazed by how hard the players were. Brayshaw, Rivers, Viney, were stone cold killers at the contest and were the reason why we had a chance to win, just the execution was off with goal kicking. But that contested game will win 9/10 games of football. We are winning the flag with that pressure and two more games to get fwd 50 right.

My money is on the Hawks, they were ridiculously good against the pies. I don’t like Mitchell at all but reckon he’s a hell of a coach.

Both sides have scored 2+ goals from bad decisions. Was really hoping Maynard would get done for dissent, Field umpire knew they'd stuffed it up. Fair play to Collingwood though, injuries and they didn't drop their heads, got to work.

If I get the OP right, you must dislike the player (not just the club), so while I would love a Curnow, I don't hate him. I used to dislike/almost hate Toby (and think alot of his rehabilitation is for media consumption only) so like others Toby. But of the other players I hate, none that I think would make us better going forward, Tex having this season at the Demons would have been good, but can't see that happening in 2024. Hawkins is done, would have fitted the bill a few years ago. Rance would have been a big winner when he was travelling well, loathed the guy, favorite moment was Viney putting him on his ar$e and Dawes' elbow.

Happy with the team, coaches have shown selection nous all year, if they are trying Grundy, it's not out of bloody mindedness. I really feel for Grundy the media drivel around him has been verging on vicious, totally undeserved. The bruisefree jibe about us always annoyed me, I felt like we've always made Carlton pay for it ever since. I can see either a close win or a blow out, have fond memories of 2018 seeing Lever play and torching the Blues by a 100 points, feeling in my bones like we are going to be on pressure style like the KB game, hopefully with better kicking for goal. Watch all the mouth breathing journos jump on the band wagon if we win, and the stories will switch to something unfair favoring Melbourne. (Allthough I was policing Carlton the night Italy cheated against Australia in a World Cup game, and got rivers of abuse about Australia losing from the Carlton crowd, who were very Pro Italy, not sure how much they love the Matildas). I mean this in a jocular way and not too seriously, but did you ever consider by drafting Grundy we don't have to play against him? So while we might not be getting full advantage of his skills because he replicates what Max brings, He has more than held his own over the years against Max. But imagine Grundy at Port or Brisbane (i reckon he's better than Oscar), for one of the sides we are competing against. Would go a way towards nullifying one of our weapons. This might have been said elsewhere but haven't read everything. He is an expensive insurance policy but I see it working in more than one way Lastly +1, love the idea of the Melbourne Football club having a soccer team, I see synergies, always thought with our name we could be a much larger sporting organization (Aussie Rules always has primacy though).

I cruised the BF Blues board, annoyingly reasonable compared to most clubs, interesting discussion about balancing mid field speed with grunt, and acknowledgment that we have a fair list. We are their biggest bogey side btw 8 wins in a row. I think Danger is a classic case of tall poppy syndrome, he's not as nearly as FIGJAM as some make him out to be. That said, while I have no love for Geelong at all, but mad (used to be jealous) respect for the fact that the club is a unified well run operation, from recruitment to coaching and their board. I am with FDRoosevelt/(and James Bond) “I ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made.” Anyway, as much as I have respect for Paddy and Geelong, they are the enemy, he can't go and pretend to be Switzerland, while he is still wearing colours. I do think the commission should have very recent ex players on it though.

If Smith has been getting a game, it is because he is doing what the coaches want how they want. Personally trust the coaches on his selection as I’ve been seeing improvement on his touch each week and he has speed and endurance. What I don’t understand is what Dunstan needs to do, I think he deserves a go before Harmes and Sparrow at this stage. Jordan is a whipping boy for DL, people are so febrile on a few of our players. So happy Hibbo is back as well, gives us some flexibility and knows his role. Oliver and Dunstan in Petty/Harmes out and my whacky idea, Hibbo as a forward, knows how to kick a goal … before you howl, we are set in defense, have options with Tomlinson and Smith, but of all the mid size players and those that can play bigger, Hibbo has kicked some booming goals over the years, and I think is the best kick of those we have left to play forward, that can cope with and dish out physical pressure. Carlton has a big forward line, so having Tomlinson back makes sense, or maybe Smith. Whereas Hibbo forward would be a left field move and his mobility would trouble some of the Carlton defenders and he would bring forward defensive pressure. Rivers has really showed he can drive from HB like Hibbo has done for years, but sadly does not seem to be a goal kicker. So leave Rivers doing Hibbo defensive things. I just don’t feel like BBB has the mobility, Tmac not ready, and gets pushed under the ball.

Watched the game and was going to skip the 1st quarter but didn’t, and as bad as the kicking was something stood out and continued to stand out through the game, and that was the smothers, and leading the way was Chandler, bloody hell the kid must have been a defensive linesman in a past life, gets fully horizontal to try and effect the smother. I think that game had more red hot goes at smothering than I’ve seen before, or maybe it was the total commitment demonstrated. So yes we got chipped in the 1st, but it’s the small things I’m seeing each week (smothers, tackles, and jack viney) that has me amazingly bullish on how finals will go… /bTW - Am starting to feel Chandler might just be the best rookie draft p/u since Aaron Davey in 2003 (although Judd might give that a shake too)

I think this is going to derail Port's season, not just from the CP to two key players, but this is a genuine scandal, it makes a lie about the Dr's reviewing footage on the sideline. Players need to be protected from themselves, I really don't care about how Alir was speaking to Ken, the test is there for a reason. Nothing less than resignation of the medical staff, no matter how much of a good bloke he is.

On the telly what you describe came across, but it felt like they were being so silly they became easier for the umps to ignore.

Here in Finland this week, (Kenya was last week) playing K2K with a new Sherrin and loving the game. Both going mental in the last quarter. We won in the wet and used the ball well, mark of a side with excellent skills, primed for September. Also let me get this in here, our defence is Premiership standard, put under mad pressure today, but I thought Richmond got lucky bounces for a few and didn't see any major breakdown of structure. Salem/Rivers/Lever/McVee(mancrush) rebounding is so good. Great link play by Langdon and Hunter clearly putting his body on line with contact today. Also what ever was wrong with May last week clearly addressed. Shout to the umps for paying HTB in the last. I was for delisting Smith and Melksham, clearly I was wrong, while Melks has had his chances over the years, he has changed his attitude somehow and is getting to the ball 1st allowing himself a chance to score. Smith I am so happy for, gives every contest his all and did great work on Dusty, I love these redemption stories, he looked so nearly and now he looks just looks dangerous. Feeling smug about Petty, but the most 21 thing about the fwd line for me was the goal assists are back, am sure there are more lay-offs to a better position. Makes me feel the team is in the best headspace. (kudos to Brown last week leading the way). And seriously ANB was great today, serious fwd half tackle pressure, did alot of work under heavy pressure, the turnovers only tell the story to the simple minds. Our 4th quarter fitness is still there, our whole team provided huge pressure on the Richmond ball carrier, magnificent premiership standard effort. Jordan and Harmes 21 and 22, felt Dunstan was stiff not getting a run today has done the work. Woey stays I like his run.

It's a shame GWS has come good, I want Taylor more than anything and would swap our pick 4 and a players for him. Petty goes forward and we have a replacement for May in a year or two. I actually think we are OK for mids and smalls. But if May gets injured structurally we are stuffed and neither Petty or Tomlinson are #1 Gorilla minders. Sorry bit of a broken record on this one..
