Good attempt. Some good points, but I don't think you truly understand the modern game. Flood press spread run switch, efficient kicking, athleticism. It's best described as what in other areas is called 'chaos theory' ie. so many variables there is no simple solution. Which coach understands most possibilities wins. I keep saying Neeld is a rookie coach who started with defence as his approach, 'we'll be the hardest to play against'. Unlike Bailey he responded to failure, by trying different things eg. movement of players into alternate position. Lets hope he is a good and quick learner

I assume they are trying to determine whether to keep him. they will keep most of the other rucks but still have questions. Horribly awkward but surprises with some of his efforts. Only 16 games...got to be given a go.

A lot

Ratten was good in the mid field before he left us. I'd be ready to jump as soon as he's free, eg one week

Every team needs a good team of rucks, hence the reason we are playing Spencer at the moment. Martin provides that variety we need for a good set of rucks. If he isn't worth a really good trade, I think he has value on our list and we should be patient

Bailey had absolutely no idea of a defensive game. He's gone to a club that had an A1 defense. He's found a good fit. Now we need Neld to understand the game needs better attack. But he is a rookie coach and has a lot to learn. I think he lacks a lot of game sense, but unfortunately he's got to be given a couple of years to learn and we have got to suffer because of it.

Jake may be a modest player with 10 games under his belt, but insipid is crap, he busted his gut against against one of the competitions best

Just ask Kevin Bartlett, he thinks he knows everything.

As good a summary as anyone on here

A ridiculous comment. It cann't be done

Jai Sheehan and Jack Fitzpatrick.
Harrisonrules replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jack F has all the athleticism that one loves to see. Sorry for not naming names but a developmental coach who has been involved with both Buddy F and Fitz stated he believed Fitz was better at a slightly younger age. Buddy's kicking action aint perfect either. I haven't seen him but have watched the reports and stats when available of Jai S and look forward to his development. Plenty more positive games than not. Davis is far to young to get rid of -
For those who bag Bruce, you are denigrating a great and successful servant of the club. Unless you know him you won't know the real story. So keep your derogertory statements to yourself, because you only know half of the facts. And because of the quality of the guy you won't hear it all

Beams signs for 3 ... Cloke edges closer to Dees?

Fully agree. Just add Malthouse to Carlton. The whole thing is stitched up already. To sort of quote David Schwarz 99%, certain he won't be coming to Melbourne. For him there is no incentive what so ever, not even the money because he can get virtually what we pay from anywhere else. -
GNF you've got guts. Saying what a number of people are thinking according to my conversations. I have a list of things I think as a rookie coach Neeld has got wrong. My biggest beef is I disagree with the defense first and scrounge goals out of a defensive mindset approach. I am clearly an attack first supported with sound defence. Disagree about your course of action to have him immediately sacked, even if I think it would be justified on performance. I think we just have to stick with him to give him a chance not becasue I believe he is going to be what people hope he will be, but because everyone deserves a reasonable chance to develop. Yes the young players will improve over time and bring a new era to the club. I'm waiting to be convinced about the coach.

Neeld is at a loss to know what to do, his approach is not working with Melbourne as it had at Collingwooid. (In the same way Bailey's approach didn't work at Melbourne as it did with Port) so what do you. You've got to 'spin' your way out the pit the club is in. The inexperience is only as good as long as it applies, but then a different statistical 'spin' will be offered. This is the challenge he took on. It's harder than one thinks. Judgement day will be in in 18 months and that's no spin.

I'm right with you on this one. The AFL is merely an arm of the sponsors. The chief sponsor is the media headed by the TV. They have set up the extraordinary media ethos 24/7 so that the games are virtually secondary to the media. The TV now controlls the fixturing. etc etc. That's what happens when one looses sight of the values that underly a competition. I'll right my book on this topic one day I'm retired

Is Howe the best contested mark you've seen?
Harrisonrules replied to Deestroy All's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't agree. Certainly best spekkie mark I can remember in 60 years of football. I think he still drops a few he should hold and some guys don't. Some guys standing toe to toe shoulder to shoulder never drop a ball and never get out bussled. But its absolutely fun having him in our side. -
You've forgotten about our good mate clint B already.
-
Despite the prejudice in this club (a la Stanton) the up side is far too good to get rid of yet.
-
When they play Melbourne. Bennell was a gun and clearly best on ground.(39 possessions and 4 goals) Sorry but Ablett was Ablett and just for a different party kick, hit the centre from the goal score. (Over 70 mtrs) Best two on ground

POLL: Do you want Mark Neeld to remain coach in 2013?
Harrisonrules replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just like the press. Simplify things to black and white issues. Of course Neeld stays next year and probably the third. Do I fully support him. No. I think he's done some great things. I'm, happy with his pre season program. I Like the football department set up. Defensive game plan is really inadequate. Respect for all players is not good. Some are preferred over others and the leadership issue had bad implications greater than the good. Still too much like the school teacher. Needs lots of experience to mature. Game day performance is modest at best. Can he improve. He's got to be given a chance. I definitely wont vote yes or no to a crazy question. The better question would have been, 'should we extend his contract to five years to show we stand by him.' I'd like to see that (question) My answer would be definite....NO. TOO MANY UNKNOWNS. I just hope he does not come under the pump in the coming year, because if he doesn't improve I fear he will.
